Chapter 1479: Clash of the White Rose

Chapter 1479: Clash of the White Rose

The White Rose members had no real idea what they were fighting against. They should have known better. Even if they didn’t recognize it as a Werewolf, the signs were obvious enough. If they believed Kai was simply an Altered with a wolf-like form, they should have assumed he would be able to shift into a hybrid state. That was the natural expectation.

And Kai had done exactly that.

What they didn’t know, however, was the truth about Werewolves, and more specifically, the truth about Kai himself. His form wasn’t ordinary. His class as a Shapeshifter gave him a unique ability, he could take on a full wolf form. That alone was his special trait, something no other Werewolf shared.

In that form, Kai gained incredible speed, a velocity that had carried him through countless battles. He had combined that agility with the ice powers he had recently unlocked, and together those gifts had carried him to victory time and time again. But beneath the surface, there was a weakness.

For all his speed and elemental versatility, in terms of raw physical strength and striking power, Kai’s wolf form was weaker than most realized.

Gary and the other Werewolves had speculated that this might be the limitation of Kai’s class, that his wolf body was his true Alpha form, locked in place by his Shapeshifter trait. They thought it was simply a special quirk of his path. But they were wrong.

Because when Kai transformed again, when his body shifted mid-battle, the truth revealed itself. A surge of raw power radiated from him unlike anything he had shown before. His strength was amplified, his presence towering, and yet he retained full control of his ice abilities. To top it off, he was feeding on the energy in the air, gaining an unseen boost from the presence of so many other Werewolves in the vicinity.

Even for the three top members of the White Rose, this was going to be a brutal fight.

Adam learned that firsthand. Kai’s fangs clamped into him with terrifying force, his jaws grinding down with everything he had. Pain flared like fire through Adam’s nerves as the teeth sank deeper, threatening to tear through flesh and bone alike.

The only saving grace was Adam’s transformed body. His skin, stretched and reshaped in this state, had a strange rubbery quality, tough enough to resist what would have otherwise been a fatal bite. It dulled the impact, but not enough to stop the agony tearing through him.

While Kai was latched onto Adam, Marie’s body tensed. Her muscles twitched with impatience, itchy feet itching for action. She sprang forward, hoping to strike Kai while he was still locked on Adam.

Adam responded as well, extending his writhing tentacles in an attempt to bind Kai before he could escape. But Kai pulled his head back just in time, blood dripping from his maw, and with a powerful kick off Adam’s torso he launched himself into the air.

The tentacles whipped forward, snapping at him, but Kai’s jaws opened wide. Frost bloomed, ice crystallizing instantly around one of the tendrils. He latched onto the frozen limb, gripping it, and then used it as leverage to propel himself backward. With a graceful flip, he landed firmly on the ground once more, crouched and ready.

Marie hit the earth too late. She skidded to a stop beside Adam, her eyes flashing to the wound on his neck. Blood dripped freely at first, but before her eyes, Adam’s strange flesh bubbled and thickened, the injury closing over in seconds until the bite was sealed shut.

“Are you okay?” Marie asked quickly, her eyes sharp.

Adam gave a short, pained laugh. “Yeah. First time I’ve ever been bitten like that. But my body heals fast. If something that small could’ve taken me down, I never would’ve been put in this position in the first place.”

Marie nodded tightly, but her gaze had already shifted ahead, toward Kai, who now clashed with the others.

Kai was facing Don Tinge and Chen simultaneously. Chen was more than just a defensive fighter; he was skilled in martial arts, his movements precise and sharp. Don, meanwhile, exploded pools of water across the battlefield, sending bursts of liquid surging with every strike.

But something was changing.

It was as if Kai was evolving with every exchange, his movements sharpening, his instincts heightening. Each clash brought out more from him, and the longer the fight went on, the harder he became to predict.

Don’s blasts of water detonated across the ground, scattering into mist. Kai darted through the battlefield in a zigzag, his wolf form little more than a blur. Chen waited, calculating, and then moved at just the right moment. Predicting Kai’s path, he struck, timing his attack perfectly.

But Kai transformed again mid-step. His body shifted back into his hybrid form, his arm snapping upward. He knocked Chen’s strike aside, redirecting it effortlessly. The water blast Chen had been preparing fired harmlessly into the air.

In the same motion, Kai spun, his leg whipping upward. His foot connected squarely with Chen’s chest, the impact explosive. Chen was lifted clean off the ground, his body hurled backward through the air.

Kai’s eyes tracked him instantly, prepared to follow up with another attack. But Don was already rushing in from the opposite side, sprinting fast across the water-soaked battlefield. Kai’s hands swept forward, ice forming into a gleaming blade. Don mirrored him, summoning a trident of water.

Their weapons clashed with a resounding crack. Frost met liquid, steel-like force meeting fluid power. Don had the advantage of elemental reinforcement, the strength of water itself behind his strike. He expected to overwhelm Kai. But when the weapons met, his confidence cracked.

Kai’s physical strength had grown beyond his expectations. The clash was equal. Neither gained ground.

Don’s eyes widened. This was his chance, Adam was already moving. He was right behind Kai, his tentacles extending outward once again, swinging wide to ensnare him. The perfect setup.

But then, just as the tendrils closed in, Kai’s arms shifted back mid-motion. His claws retracted, his hands returning to human form. And then, with startling calm, he brought his palms together in a simple, deliberate clap.

Adam froze mid-swing, his mind stuttering.

What the… what is going on?

The fight had turned into something none of them could understand.
