Chapter 551: Comprehension Competition
Chapter 551: Comprehension Competition
A short while later, Kyrian was once again walking through the bustling streets of the Sky Caravan. The Celestial Descent Festival remained just as lively as before, the contagious energy of the crowd filling the air like an endless melody.
Merchants loudly advertised rare treasures, displaying their wares in stalls decorated with colorful banners. Alchemists showcased freshly refined pills inside crystal vials, their surfaces gleaming with a seductive radiance.
Blacksmiths presented gleaming spiritual weapons, their blades capturing the sunlight and reflecting it in hypnotic patterns. Cultivators chatted excitedly about the results of the morning’s competitions, some celebrating victories while others analyzed their defeats.
Kyrian passed by all of them like a shadow, his presence subtle yet impossible to ignore. A few glances turned toward him, recognizing the violet-eyed youth, but no one dared approach him.
After walking for several minutes, Kyrian finally caught sight of his destination.
The Comprehension Arena.
Unlike the combat arenas, this place possessed an exceptionally tranquil atmosphere, almost solemn.
There were no rings, no battle platforms, nor the deafening sound of spiritual clashes. Instead, there was a respectful silence, a sense of reverence that seemed to emanate from the very stones.
At its center stood an enormous circular hall built entirely from white stone, its architecture both elegant and ancient.
Hundreds of towering pillars supported the structure, each one covered with countless ancient inscriptions that glowed faintly with a golden light, as though they were alive. The characters belonged to an ancient script so old that very few people could fully decipher it.
Above, enormous spiritual crystals illuminated the entire hall with a serene and constant light, a gentle radiance that did not dazzle but instead invited contemplation. It was like stepping into a library, a temple devoted to knowledge.
Numerous cultivators sat silently throughout the hall, their postures ranging from deep meditation to attentive observation.
Some meditated with their eyes closed, their minds traveling through the centuries of wisdom engraved upon the walls. Others studied the enormous black steles scattered throughout the hall, their eyes tracing the inscriptions with the intensity of scholars searching for hidden truths.
Each stele was covered with ancient characters, mysterious diagrams, and marks left behind by countless experts over the centuries. Some were more than a thousand years old, their surfaces worn by time, yet still legible to those with eyes to see.
The mere presence of those inscriptions conveyed a profound sense of wisdom, a weight of accumulated knowledge that made the air itself seem denser.
At the entrance, several elders from the organization welcomed the participants. They wore immaculate white ceremonial robes, their long gray beards swaying gently in the breeze drifting through the hall. Their eyes were sharp, evaluating each participant with gazes that seemed capable of piercing straight into the soul.
Kyrian calmly approached, his footsteps echoing softly across the polished stone floor.
One of the elders looked up upon seeing him, his eyes narrowing for a brief moment.
“Name.” The elder’s voice was firm, though not hostile.
“Kyrian.”
The old man quickly consulted a jade tablet before him, his fingers gliding across its smooth surface. Then he registered Kyrian with a swift and efficient movement. Finally, he nodded.
“Participant confirmed.” He handed him a small identification medallion made of white jade, polished until it gleamed like a mirror.
“Number one hundred and twenty-seven. The first test will begin shortly. Proceed to the main hall and await the announcement.”
Kyrian accepted the medallion with a slight nod, his fingers brushing against the cool surface of the jade.
“Thank you.”
He then slowly entered the enormous hall, his eyes sweeping across the surroundings with quiet yet profound curiosity.
As his gaze wandered over the ancient steles scattered throughout the hall, a subtle anticipation arose within his heart.
He knew that comprehension was one of the most valued abilities in cultivation, not merely power but wisdom. The ability to see through appearances and understand the essence of all things.
The competition was finally about to begin.
And he wanted to discover just how far his own comprehension had truly reached.
The minutes passed slowly.
More and more cultivators entered the enormous hall, presenting their identification plaques to the elders in charge of registration.
Some walked in absolute silence, maintaining calm and confident expressions. Others spoke quietly among themselves, exchanging impressions about the festival’s earlier trials and speculating about the challenge they would face that afternoon.
Little by little, the seats scattered throughout the hall began to fill.
The atmosphere grew increasingly solemn.
Kyrian remained seated beside one of the ancient steles, calmly observing the movement around him as he waited for the competition to begin.
It was then that a conversation between several nearby participants caught his attention.
“I heard the prize this time is a Secret Technique.”
“I heard that too.”
“Not just any technique… they say it’s an ancient inheritance discovered in some ruins during an expedition.”
Kyrian’s eyes subtly shifted toward the small group without interrupting their conversation.
“Secret Techniques are extremely rare.”
“They aren’t exactly cultivation techniques… nor are they battle techniques.”
“They’re something in between.”
“When fully comprehended, they can grant unique abilities to a cultivator. Some strengthen perception, others improve Qi control, and there are even some capable of completely changing the way someone fights.”
Those words immediately sparked Kyrian’s interest.
‘A Secret Technique…’
He had already read about them in several ancient books within the Blood Library, but he had never had the opportunity to encounter one personally.
Each possessed unpredictable abilities, and many could not even be judged solely by their rank.
Some were regarded as true treasures, passed down through countless generations.
A subtle gleam appeared in his violet eyes.
His curiosity increased considerably.
Even so, he remained calm.
‘I hope I achieve a good result.’
He knew the extent of his own comprehension.
However… he had never directly compared it with that of the true geniuses gathered by the great powers of the cultivation world.
Perhaps it was exceptional.
Perhaps it was merely ordinary in comparison to theirs.
There was no way to know before the competition began.
So he dismissed all unnecessary thoughts, slowly closed his eyes, and waited in silence, allowing his mind to return to a state of complete tranquility while the enormous hall continued to welcome participants from every corner of the Sky Caravan.
