Chapter 584: Beast Egg (5)
Chapter 584: Beast Egg (5)
“It seems she’s trying to get out.”
The two continued watching, unhurried, without interfering. Neither of them made any move to help; both knew that spiritual beasts needed to break out of their own eggs.
It was the first test of life, the first challenge that would strengthen her body and determination. Interfering could weaken the creature, making her more fragile, less capable of surviving in the world that awaited her.
A few more minutes passed, each second an eternity.
Then…
‘CRACK!’
The main crack grew larger, a line stretching from one side of the egg to the other. A faint, high-pitched chirp echoed from inside, weak, like the sound of a hatchling calling out for the first time.
Another strike came from within, stronger than the previous ones. Then another, even more determined.
Until…
‘CRAAACK!’
The entire upper half of the shell shattered at once, purple fragments scattering across the table like the petals of a blooming flower. A small head slowly emerged, rising from the cocoon that had protected her for so long.
Kyrian’s eyes widened slightly, his voice barely above a whisper in surprise.
“This…”
The creature took her first deep breath, her lungs filling with air. Her body was still partially wrapped in the remains of the shell, but her true form could already be seen.
She possessed dark purple scales, so deep in color that they appeared almost black from certain angles, absorbing the light around them. Golden lines ran across her entire body like tiny glowing rivers, pulsing with a soft light that followed the rhythm of her breathing.
Her head was elegant, with a delicate snout and a smooth crest that began between her eyes and extended to the top. Her eyes remained closed, yet she already seemed aware of the world around her.
She breathed slowly, her body adapting to its new reality. Then she began pushing away the remaining shell with weak but determined movements. A few more fragments fell away, revealing more of her body.
Her entire body finally emerged. Long, flexible, and elegant, with a grace that resembled the most ancient creatures of legend.
Kyrian frowned slightly, his voice filled with confusion.
“A snake?”
Gao Ziyue carefully extended her hand, her fingers hovering over the creature.
“I think…”
She stopped mid-sentence. Something caught her attention. There were small protrusions beneath the creature’s body, something that did not seem to belong to an ordinary snake. She leaned in closer, her eyes widening.
She blinked. Then her eyes widened even further.
“Wait…”
Kyrian noticed it as well, his voice joining hers.
“That…”
The two spoke almost at the same time, sharing the same discovery.
“She has legs!”
Gao Ziyue gently lifted the tiny creature, holding her with the reverence of someone carrying an invaluable treasure. Now there was no room for doubt. Beneath the elongated body were four perfectly formed limbs, small and delicate, each ending in tiny black claws that gleamed like polished onyx.
She was not an ordinary snake. She was a four-legged serpent, a creature that seemed to combine the oldest and most mysterious traits of the spiritual realm.
The tiny creature’s golden eyes finally opened, revealing irises that shone like liquid gold. The first face she saw was Gao Ziyue’s, and she remained staring at her for several seconds, as if engraving that image into her memory forever.
Then, slowly, she moved her head closer. She rubbed it against Gao Ziyue’s palm in a gesture of trust and affection, letting out a small, content sound. Like a hatchling recognizing its mother.
The smile that appeared on Gao Ziyue’s face was impossible to hide. It was radiant, sincere, and filled with affection. A smile that lit up her entire face, melting away every mask she wore.
She gently stroked the tiny scales, her voice a whisper filled with love.
“Welcome to the world…”
The little serpent closed her eyes once more, completely relaxed, safe in the arms of the one she already recognized as her protector.
Kyrian watched everything in silence, a faint smile resting on his lips. He had never seen a creature like this in all his travels. Much less had he ever witnessed such a peaceful birth, one so full of meaning.
He slowly extended a finger, moving carefully so as not to frighten the tiny creature. The serpent opened one eye, her golden iris meeting his. She observed him for a few seconds, as if evaluating his very essence, then moved her head closer, lightly pressing her snout against his finger.
As if memorizing his scent.
Then she curled up comfortably once more in Gao Ziyue’s hand, content and secure.
Kyrian smiled faintly, his voice a murmur of admiration.
“I’ve never seen a spiritual beast like this.”
Gao Ziyue could not take her eyes off the little creature either, her expression a mixture of surprise, affection, and curiosity. Her gaze wandered over every detail of the creature, every scale, every golden line, every tiny claw.
“Neither have I…” She took a deep breath, as if trying to process the magnitude of what had just happened.
“It seems the two of us will have a lot to discover about this little one.”
The two remained leaning over the dark wooden table, completely focused on the newborn creature resting between them.
The room had once again sunk into a pleasant silence, a silence that needed no words to fill it, one that was complete on its own.
Outside, the auction bids continued echoing through the sound formation installed in the glass wall, a distant murmur that reached them like the sound of the sea heard from afar.
Voices rose, prices were announced, and gavels struck, bringing fierce contests over precious treasures to an end. Yet all of it seemed distant, almost as though it belonged to another world, another reality.
The grand hall below, with all its bustle and splendor, had become nothing more than an irrelevant backdrop to what was happening here.
Here, within that private room, there were only three beings: Kyrian, Gao Ziyue, and the little creature who had just entered the world, bringing with her the mystery of her birth.
The tiny beast remained nestled in the delicate palm of Gao Ziyue’s hand, her movements slow and drowsy. Her slender body measured little more than a handspan, yet it already carried an elegance that promised to grow with time.
Her purple scales, so dark that they appeared black from certain angles, softly reflected the golden light of the spiritual lanterns, creating tiny gleams that danced across their surface like stars in a night sky.
Between each row of scales, extremely fine golden lines stretched across her entire body like glowing rivers, pulsing from time to time with a faint, almost imperceptible radiance.
It was a living radiance, one that followed the rhythm of her breathing, growing brighter with every inhale and dimmer with every exhale, as if the creature’s very life were written in light upon her skin.
