Chapter 657: Last days on the Caravan (18)
The steward opened the box, and an object appeared in her hands. It was a necklace.
Kyrian narrowed his eyes, his attention immediately captured. The necklace had three thin chains, all made of an extremely delicate silver material, like strands of moonlight woven into the shape of metal. The three chains intertwined at certain points and then separated again, forming a pattern resembling three paths that crossed and continued in different directions.
At the center was a small transparent crystal. It was not an ordinary precious stone; the crystal seemed empty, but when Kyrian looked carefully, he noticed small ripples of energy within it, as if the crystal contained a miniature ocean.
His interest arose immediately, a spark of curiosity that he did not try to hide.
The steward held the necklace between two fingers, her voice echoing throughout the plaza.
“This artifact bears the name of…”
She paused briefly, allowing the suspense to settle in.
“The Necklace of Three Harmonies.”
The words caused a small reaction from the crowd, whispers of speculation spreading. Kyrian remained motionless, his eyes fixed on the necklace.
The steward continued, her voice maintaining its solemn tone.
“This is a comprehension artifact created by an unknown spiritual craftsman from the Central Territory.”
Upon hearing those words, Kyrian immediately became more attentive. The Central Territory, its origin alone made the object much more interesting. The Central Territory was the heart of the cultivator world, the place from which the rarest treasures, the most powerful techniques, and the wisest masters came.
“Its purpose is not to directly increase the user’s strength.”
She raised the necklace, allowing everyone to see its three chains.
“When used, the three chains can establish a connection between the cultivator’s mind, their Qi, and their intent.”
Kyrian’s eyes narrowed, his mind working rapidly. Mind, Qi, and intent, are three fundamental aspects of cultivation, three elements that needed to be in harmony for any advancement to be possible.
“During cultivation, the artifact can help the user perceive small differences between their Qi and their intent, allowing them to understand the characteristics of their own path more easily.”
The steward paused, her voice becoming deeper.
“It can also assist in the comprehension of auras.”
The plaza became completely silent. Now everyone was paying attention, their minds processing the implications of those words.
“The effectiveness depends on the user’s comprehension. The artifact does not grant an aura, nor does it directly provide comprehension. It merely creates an extremely favorable spiritual environment in which the cultivator can find that comprehension on their own. It is a tool, not a shortcut.”
Kyrian became even more interested. It was exactly the kind of artifact he was looking for, something that could accelerate his progress without compromising the quality of his foundation.
The steward continued explaining, her voice calm.
“The three chains represent three aspects: energy, intent, and perception.”
She touched one of them, her fingers running along the silver metal.
“During cultivation, the user can direct their Qi through the necklace, allowing the artifact to stabilize and amplify small differences in their perception. It is like having a second pair of eyes, capable of seeing what physical eyes cannot.”
Then she touched the second chain.
“The intent can then be compared to the movement of the Qi. The necklace allows the user to feel how their will manifests within the energy, how their intent shapes the flow of their power.”
Finally, she touched the third.
“And the resulting perception can be used to find subtle changes in the path the cultivator is trying to comprehend. Small nuances that would normally go unnoticed become visible, as if a fog had been removed.”
She slowly lowered her arm, the necklace shining beneath the evening light.
“For someone who is already close to comprehending an intent or aura, this artifact can significantly reduce the difficulty. It is not a guarantee of success, but it is a valuable tool for someone who is on the right path.”
Kyrian’s violet eyes shone with a light of understanding.
‘This is exactly what I needed.’
He possessed several paths, lightning, blood, sword, and others that he would still need to comprehend in the future. If he could accelerate his comprehension of each of them, his strength would increase at a completely different pace.
Besides, he had just discovered during the previous trial how much an environment of isolation could help him. This necklace might not be exactly the same as the silver blindfolds, but perhaps it was even better, a tool that could be used continuously, not just in a trial.
“Begin the bidding.”
The jade plaques began to glow, small lights illuminating throughout the plaza. Kyrian remained motionless, his mind calculating rapidly.
‘How much am I willing to spend?’
He possessed a considerable amount of spirit stones. Far more than he had when he arrived at the Sky Caravan, some of it coming from his pill sales, some from rewards, and some from other businesses.
Besides, he still possessed materials and objects that he could sell if necessary.
But the necklace would probably be expensive. Very expensive. The first bids began, and Kyrian finally made his first bid, his plaque glowing.
A few seconds later, another bid appeared. Kyrian remained calm; he did not know who was competing against him, nor did he want to know. There was only one important question.
‘Is it worth it?’
The answer came immediately.
‘Yes. It is.’
Even if he had to spend all his spirit stones, that artifact would still be useful. He could recover his wealth, refine more pills, create formations, produce spiritual weapons. Money could be recovered. An opportunity like this might never appear again.
Kyrian increased his bid once more, the number becoming extremely high.
The bids continued, a silent battle fought through the plaques. Finally, only two plaques remained competing for the item, Kyrian’s and another one, whose owner he did not know.
Kyrian had no intention of giving up. Another increase. Then another. Until the value surpassed half of his entire savings.
Kyrian stopped.
‘This is enough.’
The final seconds passed, five minutes that seemed like an eternity. The steward raised her hand.
“Time.”
The plaques immediately stopped glowing, the plaza sinking into absolute silence. The steward looked at a small jade screen in her hand, her eyes scanning the recorded numbers. For a few seconds, no one spoke.
Then she announced.
“The winning plaque is…”
A pause.
“…number 1437.”
