Chapter 113.5: Du Kehui’s Death (5)
“These are poisonous insects, they use the Sound Arts,” Luo Qi informed them, recognizing the insects.
“Luo Qi-gege, you’re familiar with these insects?” Du Xiaoli asked.
“Mm, this is an insect that was bred in Miaojiang in the last two years. It is highly toxic– one bite will inject lethal poison, for which there is no antidote. We can’t let them fly around anymore,” Luo Qi observed. “He controls them with his flute; you can do the same.”
“Understood.” Du Xiaoli nodded, taking out the flute hanging on her waist. Listening carefully to Ah Man’s flute sound, she slowly pursed the corners of her mouth, put the flute to her lips, and blew.
Since he was controlling them with sound, she would first disrupt his sound to make the insects lose control, and then use her own sound to control them.
There was a method to control Miaojiang insects and parasites, and that was through sound. Some parasites could only be controlled by certain sounds, or they would be trained by their masters to only respond to certain sounds. If he had used those parasites, tonight’s ending would have looked very different.
However, he had used this other kind of insect.
These insects had been bred very recently; no one in Miaojiang could completely control them. Ah Man had known some Sound Arts and slowly figured this method out himself, but his mastery of Sound Arts was low and his control of it was neither as pure nor as powerful as Du Xiaoli’s. And so, the insects were very quickly controlled by Du Xiaoli.
Under Du Xiaoli’s control, all the insects fell to the ground in thick layers, rolling around in circles.
Luo Qi took a torch, glanced at Du Xiaoli, and threw the torch into the pile of insects, immediately producing a crackling sound. Soon, all the insects had been burned to ashes.
The guards who had not been attacked came forward, placing their swords on the necks of Zhong Meiqing and the others.
“Take them down,” Du Yunhan commanded.
The victor holds all power, leaving those who were captured with no means of resistance. They weren’t suicide mission soldiers; they did not have the courage to end themselves at this time.
While being taken down, Du Kexin looked straight at Du Xiaoli. In his eyes appeared coldness and hatred that had never appeared before.
“Father, what do we do now?” Du Xiuheng asked, looking at the ground full of corpses.
Du Yunhan patted Du Xiuheng’s shoulder and responded, “Leave a portion of them here to guard those people. Take some people to the Senior Cabinet Minister’s Manor and free the people there, then go and free the other officials. The officials that were oppressed are all the ones I had someone report to you previously.”
“Understood.” After acknowledging Du Yunhan’s instructions, Du Xiuheng led away the people who had come with him. After walking aways, he turned back and looked at them. “You guys be careful.”
“You be careful too.” Du Yunhan was somewhat moved. This could be considered the first time Du Xiuheng had taken the initiative to display care for him.
After Du Xiuheng had left, Leng Si walked up, “Princess Consort, Master said that tonight, we will follow you.”
Du Xiaoli nodded to Leng Si, and turned to look at Du Yunhan, asking, “Father, what are we going to do now?”
Du Yunhan looked in the direction of the city gates, answering, “We will go open the gates, welcome the army…”
Perhaps knowing that something was happening tonight, many of the people in the capital did not go to sleep. Hiding in their homes and hearing the sounds of killing on the street from time to time, they felt alarmed. Some of the more timid ones hugged each other, hiding in their beds and comforting one another.
An older man was smoking a rolled cigarette in his house. When he heard the sounds of fighting outside, he tapped his cigarette stick on the brick base of his bed, saying, “Here we go again. It’s only been a few years since the last period of unrest.”
When Du Xiaoli arrived at the Du Manor, Han Mingyi was already in front of the palace, followed by Leng Yi, Leng Er, and the others. The palace entrance was still heavily guarded, with soldiers walking by, patrolling outside the palace.
Just as a pair of soldiers on patrol walked by, Han Mingyi and the others walked out from the shadows.
“Looks like they’re very on guard, there are so many patrols arranged outside the palace,” Leng Er whispered.
“Tonight is critical. The Empress Dowager must have expected someone to come rescue the Emperor, and naturally increased security,” Leng San said.
