Chapter 115.3: Absolute Counterattack! (3)
“Why not?” Han Mingze said confidently.
“Haha! Look at you now, you’re nothing but a wastrel! Do you really think you can defeat all of us by your lonesome?” Han Minghong sneered.
“Who said I’m alone?” Han Mingze swept a glance around him.
“Oh, that’s right, you have one other person by your side.” Han Minghong looked at the Empress. “Having someone to accompany you unto your death is also worth it. But your other women don’t seem to want to die with you! Dying, surrounded by people, yet utterly alone– that’s you!”
“Says who!”
A shrill cry came from inside, followed by the opening of the door. Noble Consort Yi walked out and approached the Emperor, saying, “We will all be with the Emperor.”
Following Noble Consort Yi’s lead, several other concubines also emerged, although several doors still remained tightly shut.
“Very good, very good.” Han Minghong looked at the concubines who had come out and said, “This way, the Emperor won’t be lonely on the path to the underworld. Now, hand over the jade seal. After I deal with you, I’ll go after Han Mingyi. I will make sure he’s torn to pieces!”
Up until now, he still believed that it had been him who had conspired with Du Xiaoli against him, forcing him to call off the engagement. He did not want to hate Du Xiaoli, so he directed all his resentment onto Han Mingyi.
“Oh? I didn’t expect Prince Ren to be so hung up on this Prince. It’s truly an honor!”
As soon as Han Minghong finished speaking, Han Mingyi's voice echoed from atop the courtyard wall.
Hearing Han Mingyi's voice, everyone present– except Han Mingze– stared at the courtyard wall in disbelief, wondering how those people had appeared there so suddenly.
“Han Mingyi? Weren’t you supposed to be escorting the marriage alliance procession? Why are you here?” Han Minghong asked in surprise.
“If this Prince wasn’t here, how could I witness this ‘benevolence’ of Prince Ren’s?” Han Mingyi replied with a cold smile.
“Although your return is somewhat unexpected, it saves me the trouble of tracking you down! Surround them all!”
At Han Minghong’s command, the soldiers surrounded Han Mingze and the others. Some soldiers also came to the base of the wall, holding long spears aimed at the people on the wall.
“When did you enter the city? We sealed the city during the palace rebellion.” The Empress Dowager looked at Han Mingyi.
This man had always been someone she was unable to figure out. Seeing him appear suddenly gave her the feeling that everything was going to disappear.
“I know you sealed the city after the palace rebellion,” Han Mingyi answered. “Because I returned before the palace rebellion.”
“How is that possible!” The Empress Dowager exclaimed, “I’ve sent people to constantly follow you. You’ve always been with the group!”
“Did you never question that that might not be me?” Han Mingyi said. “Knowing you were making moves, would I stay far from the capital?”
“How could you know?!” The Empress Dowager cried out, “Our preparations were so careful. How could you suspect me?”
“You’re wrong. The one who initially suspected you wasn’t us,” Han Mingyi said.
“Then who?”
“Someone who hates your Zhong family to the core.”
The Empress Dowager mulled over things for a moment, “Du Yunhan?”
The only person capable of detecting their actions, gathering evidence, and harboring such deep hatred toward the Zhong family was Du Yunhan. She had no doubt about this.
“That’s right, Prime Minister Du. You ruined his family and shattered his life of bliss, it’s no wonder he hates you so intensely. Seeing that Old Prime Minister Zhong wouldn’t even step out the door, he guessed something was up and figured out your intentions,” Han Mingyi said.
“You knew all along that we were staging a palace rebellion!” The Empress Dowager calmed down after her initial shock and looked at them.” You deliberately used the Empress to pass that information to us and pretended to leave the capital so that we would stage a coup.”
“The Empress Dowager is truly a most capable woman,” Han Mingyi said indifferently.
“Why did you do this?” Han Minghong asked.
“Of course it was to eliminate you all at once,” Han Mingze said. “All these years, this Emperor has been unable to regain my power because you’ve been sabotaging me. Nearly half of the forces are your people, but this Emperor couldn’t determine the exact number. If it weren’t for this palace rebellion, this Emperor still wouldn’t know who among them were your people.”
“Hahahaha.” The Empress Dowager burst into laughter. “Your Majesty, your Imperial Father truly taught you well. Placing oneself in a life or death situation in order to survive, no one would have expected for you to use such a method to uncover our forces.”
“Thank you for the praise,” Han Mingze smiled modestly.
“If you had discovered this before the palace rebellion, you could have succeeded. But now, this Empress Dowager can only tell you– you will not be leaving her today!” The Empress Dowager said triumphantly.
“This Prince thinks otherwise,” Han Mingyi said.
“Hmph, we’ve already replaced everyone in the palace with our own people, and we’ve brought in troops to keep guard. With just the few of you, you wouldn’t be able to escape the palace even if you had wings!” Han Minghong declared.
“We weren’t planning on leaving the palace today.” Saying this, Han Mingyi leaped over the wall to Han Mingze’s side, and gave him a pill to swallow.
Leng Er and the others followed suit, leaping over.
“Atta…” Han Minghong was about to order them to attack, but before he could finish, the sound of battling erupted outside the Cold Palace.
“Someone come!”
“Pfft—”
