Chapter 2598 - 709: You Deserve Someone Better to Love You (Part 3)

Lina pursed her lips and softly said, "Thank you."

An Yiqing smiled but said nothing, focusing on her meal. She had accepted Lanni as a brother, which, in terms of age hierarchy, made Lina her sister. But was anyone qualified to be An Yiqing’s sister? Currently, Lina certainly wasn’t.

After the meal, the group moved to the living room. Old Arthur and Lanni sat quietly on the sofa, watching An Yiqing examine Lina.

An Yiqing checked Lina’s pulse and asked about her recent health before slightly furrowing her brows. Lina’s heart tightened—was there something wrong with her health?

"Miss An, my health..." Lina said.

An Yiqing didn’t speak; she used her Clairvoyant Eye to examine thoroughly, then exhaled, "Miss Lina, do you have depression?"

Lina paused and nodded, biting her lip.

Old Arthur and Lanni exchanged a look, incredulous. To them, Lina had always been a strong, assertive woman. How could she have depression?

"Your depression should be seven or eight years old, sustained over the years by sleeping pills. Am I right?"

Lina gave a bitter smile, "You’re right. I do have depression and have had it for many years."

"Miss Lina, this pregnancy is ill-timed. Your depression has been fluctuating, reaching the point where you can hardly sleep at night. Your health is already fragile, and your blood contains medication substances. Being pregnant now isn’t good for you or the child," An Yiqing stated truthfully.

Lina’s expression changed, "Other doctors have said the same thing. They also mentioned depression could be hereditary. But I don’t want to terminate this pregnancy; I’ve struggled for years to conceive the child."

"Lina, does Paul know about this?" Old Arthur asked.

Lina forced a bitter smile, her eyes growing red, "What does he know? Besides a life of debauchery, he knows nothing!"

Old Arthur’s face darkened, and Lanni was also angry. Back when Paul was pursuing Lina, they hadn’t approved of him. It was only because Lina insisted on marrying Paul that Old Arthur resigned himself. He never expected Paul to take Lina for granted! He should have opposed them to the end!

The atmosphere in the living room was somewhat dull, An Yiqing silently watched the three, unsure what to say.

"Miss An, given my situation, is there a solution?" Lina suddenly asked.

"There is a solution, but it requires your cooperation," An Yiqing nodded, her tone serious, "I don’t know what you’ve been through these years, but I assume it has to do with your husband. Miss Lina, to completely rid yourself of depression, you must find the root cause and resolve it thoroughly. Additionally, your body can no longer tolerate more medicine; it’s highly detrimental to the child, and you must stop taking it immediately. Moreover, I recommend that you live in a relaxed environment. You should at least wait until the child is born before dealing with any distressing issues. Miss Lina, while depression is difficult to cure, it’s not impossible. If you want both you and your child to be safe and healthy, you must strictly follow my guidance."

Lina showed hesitation, her gaze wandering.

Seeing her like this, Old Arthur hastily slammed the table, "Lina, what are you still worried about? Are you still thinking about Paul, that damned scoundrel? Right now, you and the child are in great danger—are you going to let love turn you into a selfish mother?"

Lanni quickly soothed Old Arthur, while softly persuading, "Second sister, I understand your feelings. But Paul, that scoundrel, really isn’t worth risking your and the child’s health for. Move back with us, at least until the child is born, and don’t see Paul anymore. If you agree, I’ll make the necessary arrangements."

Lina bit her lip and furrowed her brows, her eyes filled with pain.

An Yiqing watched coldly and sighed, "Miss Lina, I am also a mother and have a beloved husband. I can completely understand your anguish. But I want to tell you: a healthy, cheerful single-parent family is more suitable for a child’s growth than a broken two-parent family. Even if you don’t think about the child, consider yourself. You were once a girl filled with fantastical notions of love, vibrant and energetic. Later, you developed depression because of a man, suffering for so many years. Did he ever care for you? Did he ever show concern for you? True love will pamper you endlessly, giving you the most beautiful things in this world. Your husband doesn’t deserve you; you deserve someone better to cherish you."

Lina lowered her head, then slowly lifted it again. Her hands reached out to An Yiqing, grasping her arm tightly like holding onto the last straw of hope. Her eyes were full of despair and confusion, like a child who understands nothing.

"Can I... really?... Can I really forget him?"

"Trust me. Life has been bad enough; how much worse can it get? You have a father and brother who love you; they’ll always be with you. Right?"

Lanni and Old Arthur walked over to Lina, with Old Arthur hugging Lina’s shoulders, "My daughter, you’ve always been my pride. My little princess, whatever you face, I will be behind you."

Lina stared blankly, her face progressively turning pale. An Yiqing looked at those hands tightly gripping her and softly spoke, "If you want to cry, just cry it out. Once you’ve cried, you’ll have a better life."

Emotions suppressing for so long burst forth like a flood, rushing out overwhelmingly. Lina collapsed into An Yiqing’s arms, crying her heart out. Old Arthur and Lanni stood on the side, eyes filled with pain.

Lina cried for a long, long time, seemingly trying to shed all years of grievance. An Yiqing worried the child would be affected, occasionally infusing some Inner Breath into her body. After a long while, Lina lifted her head tearfully, looking at An Yiqing sheepishly.

"Sorry, I lost control."

"No problem, I am a doctor."
