Chapter 513: Diana’s Broken Heel
Chapter 513: Diana’s Broken Heel
I grinned, stepping closer. "It’s nothing... I just think you look really cute right now." Without thinking, I reached out and gently touched her nose with my finger, wiping away the pink cream in a slow, tender motion.
Diana blushed deeply, her eyes widening in surprise. "Looks like your mom has really spoiled you," she said, trying to sound stern but failing as a shy smile tugged at her lips. "I have to teach you a lesson for being so bold with your aunt."
Before she could say anything else, I playfully flicked her nose and immediately dashed away, laughing. "Catch me if you can!"
Diana let out a surprised laugh and chased after me, her high heels clicking against the pavement. "Dexter! Come back here, you naughty boy!"
She ran gracefully at first, but the heels made it difficult on the uneven path. Suddenly, one of her heels caught on a small crack. The heel snapped with a sharp crack, and Diana lost her balance, falling forward with a small cry.
I reacted instantly. I spun around and caught her in my arms, pulling her into a tight hug before she could hit the ground. Her soft body pressed fully against mine. I could feel my own heart beating loudly against her chest — fast, heavy, and impossible to hide.
Many people around us stopped and watched with amused, affectionate smiles. One older woman whispered loudly, "Look at that couple... they look so cute together!"
Diana’s face turned an even deeper shade of red. She quickly tried to distance herself, embarrassed by the attention. But as she shifted her weight onto her right foot, a sharp pain shot through her ankle. "Aaah..." she moaned softly, her voice breathy and pained.
I held her tighter, refusing to let go. When I glanced down, I saw that her ankle was already starting to swell. Without hesitation, I scooped her up in my arms, carrying her like a princess — one arm securely under her knees, the other supporting her back. Her body felt light yet warm against me.
Diana gasped sharply, her eyes widening in shock. "Dexter! What... what are you doing?! Put me down right now!" Her voice was a mix of embarrassment and protest, but there was a hint of breathlessness in it.
I ignored her protests and kept walking steadily toward a nearby bench, holding her close. "No way. You’re hurt. Just let me take care of you."
Diana squirmed slightly in my arms, her cheeks burning red. "This is so embarrassing... everyone is looking at us! Aaah... be careful, my ankle..." she moaned again as a small jolt of pain hit her when I adjusted my grip. Her arms instinctively wrapped around my neck for support, her fingers lightly gripping my shoulder. "Dexter... seriously... put me down. I can walk... hmm..."
The people nearby let out excited gasps and cheers. "OMG, so romantic!" a young girl squealed, while others clapped and smiled. "He’s carrying her like a prince!"
I didn’t listen to any of it. I gently helped her sit down on the bench, then knelt in front of her like a devoted knight. Carefully, I removed the broken high heel from her injured foot, revealing her swollen ankle.
Diana watched me with wide, flustered eyes. "Dexter... you really don’t have to do this..."
I gently took her delicate foot in both of my hands and began massaging the swollen area with slow, careful strokes. At the same time, I secretly activated Eternal Vitality, letting the warm, healing energy flow quietly into her ankle.
Diana gasped sharply the moment my fingers touched her skin. "Hmm... wait... ahh..." A soft, involuntary moan escaped her lips as the warmth spread through her ankle. Her breath hitched, and she bit her lower lip. "Dexter... that feels... strange... aaah... it’s getting warm..."
She tried to pull her foot back slightly, but I held it gently yet firmly. Her voice came out breathy and surprised. "It... it doesn’t hurt anymore. The pain is gone... how is that possible? It was really swollen just a second ago... hmm..."
I looked up at her, still kneeling in front of the bench, my hands gently cradling her delicate foot. My heart swelled with overwhelming warmth and undeniable love.
This woman standing before me was a contradiction that completely captivated me — the fierce, icy queen who had roared threats and commanded absolute loyalty in that interrogation room, the powerful boss who could make grown agents tremble, and now this soft, blushing beauty whose every small smile made my pulse race. Both sides of her had stolen my heart, and I no longer knew how to separate them.
I smiled softly, looking into her eyes. "Maybe I just have magic hands."
Diana’s face lit up with pure happiness. She let out a bright, relieved laugh and carefully rotated her ankle. "Wow... it really doesn’t hurt at all anymore. The swelling is completely gone. Dexter, you’re full of surprises today! How did you do that so quickly?"
She stood up slowly, testing her weight on the foot with a look of wonder. I quickly slipped off my own shoes and knelt again to help her. I gently guided her feet into my sneakers.
Even though they were obviously too big for her, they somehow looked adorable on her — the contrast between her elegant style and my casual shoes made her appear even cuter.
Diana glanced down at the oversized shoes and then at me standing there in just my socks. Her expression immediately turned concerned. "Dexter... we should go back now. It’s getting late, and look at you — you’re walking around without shoes because of me. This isn’t right."
I shook my head with a playful grin, refusing to let the moment end so soon. "No way. We’re not going back yet. Let’s go have dinner first. You must be really hungry after all the riding, running, and that little chase. If Mom finds out I brought you home without feeding you properly, she’ll scold me for hours. I really won’t end well."
Diana pouted adorably, crossing her arms over her chest in a way that made her look far more like a playful girlfriend than an aunt. "Do you think I don’t know you at all? Your mom has spoiled you completely rotten. You’re just pretending to be afraid of her." She tilted her head, her eyes sparkling with teasing affection.
"If she ever finds out you’ve been bullying me all day — making me chase you in high heels, carrying me like a princess in front of strangers, and now forcing me to wear your big shoes — she might actually be happy about it. I’ve known your mother since long before you were even born, young man. I know exactly how she thinks."
I felt my face burn instantly. A deep blush spread across my cheeks as I scratched the back of my neck, suddenly feeling shy and exposed under her knowing gaze.
"That’s not fair... You keep saying you know Mom so well, but sometimes it feels like you know me better than I know myself. And the way you talk about her... it makes me realize how long you’ve been part of our lives."
