Chapter 1004: I win
Chapter 1004: I win
"I knew that guy didn't trust me."
Duke looked into the distance and saw a Skarmory racing toward them—sitting on its back was John, and behind him followed Jake’s Salamence.
"I don't think John meant it that way," William interjected.
He was of the same generation as John, and their relationship was quite good, so his tone was naturally friendlier.
"He even brought Jake along," Duke retorted irritably, then glanced at William. "Don't try to defend him for me. You're standing guard here with me, and that guy still rushed over so quickly—do you really think he trusts you?"
Upon hearing that, William finally realized that it did seem to be the case.
He couldn't help but feel a bit disheartened.
Although he was genuinely tempted by the Primal Secret Realm, he knew it wasn't something he could lay claim to—at least not now.
"Old man, I underestimated you—you actually managed to hold back!"
John and Jake dismounted from their Pokémon, and the very first sentence out of John’s mouth almost made Duke explode.
"Get lost! Do you really have so little faith in me? After all, Julian once saved my life!"
If not for knowing he couldn't beat John in a fistfight, Duke would have gladly punched him in the face.
"Old friend, I was just kidding. Don't be angry," John grinned, seeing Duke's genuine irritation.
He wasn't truly distrustful of Duke, but it was always wise to guard against others' intentions.
If it was any other Secret Realm, it wouldn't matter much—but this was the first Primal Secret Realm. If it hadn't been his own grandson who brought it back, if it had been someone else, John would have forced his way in without hesitation.
So feeling tempted by the Primal Secret Realm was only natural.
"How is Regigigas?"
Duke chose not to dwell on the matter and quickly asked about Regigigas's condition.
After all, it was a First-class Legendary. Although it seemed friendly with Julian, the potential danger couldn't be ignored—especially now that Julian had brought it to Lake City.
Frankly, Duke didn't approve of this. If Regigigas were to go on a rampage, Lake City—the third-largest city in Drakoria—would bear the brunt of it, and the cost would be far too high.
In Duke's view, Regigigas should have been kept in remote, sparsely populated areas like deep mountains, old forests, or forbidden zones.
"It's in the woods in my backyard—asleep. Check out how I looked with it!"
John pulled out his phone, showing off various selfies with the slumbering Regigigas—all from different angles. The three Regis were also in some of the shots.
His expression looked quite smug.
"Asleep?!"
Duke's tone immediately rose several notches.
So it really had been placed in Lake City—and right at their home, no less. Duke didn’t know whether to call Julian bold or just plain reckless.
If Regigigas ever went berserk, their own home would be the first to be destroyed.
Julian had actually considered this. But he remembered that Regigigas’s ability was Slow Start.
If it ever woke up and went wild, it would be like when it first emerged from the temple—it would need five days for the Slow Start effect to wear off.
And during those first five days, it could barely move much at all.
So if it truly went on a rampage, the whole city would have plenty of time to evacuate.
With the Slow Start ability, Regigigas was far less dangerous than any other First-class Legendary.
However, Julian was the only one who knew about this ability, which was why Duke was so worried.
If people outside knew that the mighty Regigigas, capable of dragging an entire continent, actually had such a "handicap" of an ability as Slow Start—
Over 90% of them would probably mock Regigigas relentlessly.
It would become the second First-class Legendary after Groudon to be laughed at by humans.
Groudon: 'It can’t fly, and it has such an ability? This round, I win.'
Since Regigigas was already asleep, there was nothing more Duke could say. He eyed the photos on John’s phone, thinking he’d take a few selfies with it himself when he had the chance.
"Where’s Julian?" William asked from the side.
"That brat went to sleep."
Jake pursed his lips, a bit speechless. With such a huge Primal Secret Realm right here, that kid actually went to sleep.
Hearing this, William also felt a bit helpless.
If it were him, he definitely wouldn’t be able to sleep.
Julian: 'If you had spent seven months on Reshiram’s back, you’d be lucky not to drop dead from exhaustion.'
For those seven months, Julian hadn’t had a single proper night’s sleep. If not for his strong physique and mental fortitude granted by his Master-level Psychic abilities, he would have collapsed long ago.
Because of this, various countries had begun to speculate whether Julian had consumed some kind of body-enhancing treasure. Otherwise, no matter how strong his body was, he wouldn’t have been able to endure seven months of exposure to wind, sun, and rain, eating junk food and sleeping poorly the entire time.
Despite such circumstances, the guy was still lively and bouncing around.
He must have definitely used some kind of body-enhancing treasure.
This made many trainers envious.
In this world, the vast majority of treasures could only be used by Pokémon. Very few treasures were suitable for human use.
And the most famous among them was the Beauty Berry.
Of course, treasures that enhanced the body also existed, and a few extremely lucky individuals had obtained them.
It seemed Julian belonged to that category of extremely lucky people.
"My dear grandson has worked himself for seven months—what's wrong with letting him sleep?"
John glared unhappily at Jake. The more he looked at this kid, the more displeased he felt—he really wanted to give him a good smack.
Jake silently took a few steps back, moving closer to his Salamence. If things looked bad, he’d make a run for it immediately.
"Since Julian is sleeping, William and I will head off first. You and Jake can stay here and keep watch," Duke said.
Guarding the Primal Secret Realm didn’t really require four Champions anyway, especially with plenty of military personnel around.
Duke also didn’t think anyone would really dare to break in.
"Fine, you two can go," John nodded.
"Then I’ll leave too," Jake added, feeling rather bored staying here. Since John was already here, he was completely redundant anyway.
If he hurried back now, that fishing spot of his should still be lively—he could make it in time.
"You stay right here," John ordered.
"Dad, there’s no point in me staying here," Jake protested, his face falling.
"Keep your old man company and chat. Otherwise, I’ll be bored," John said, displeased.
"If you want to fish, there’s water all around—feel free."
They were surrounded by ocean, standing on a temporarily erected platform.
"But I didn’t bring my gear," Jake glanced around. It was true he could fish here, but he hadn’t brought any equipment when he came.
"Have Salamence go back and fetch it for you," John said.
Seeing that John was determined to keep him here, Jake had no choice but to send Salamence back home to get his fishing tackle.
