Chapter 1012: Chapter 1229: Metagross Vs Arcanine
Chapter 1012: Chapter 1229: Metagross Vs Arcanine
"No need to fight—I surrender. Just give me that thing."
The golden Arcanine stared at the chew toy in Julian's hand, its face full of desire. Faced with Julian's proposal to battle, it directly admitted defeat.
Julian fell silent for a few seconds. Seeing that his System's Main Quest still showed 2/5, he immediately understood—the System didn't recognize the surrender.
Looks like they'd have to fight after all.
His current Main Quest was defeating the five King-form Pokémon, and the reward was designating one of his own Pokémon to gain the King Form, along with five Rare Candies (usable below Champion level).
He had already defeated two. If he defeated this Arcanine as well, then he'd be another step closer to completing the objective.
"Let's have a battle, and I'll give you this."
As he spoke, Julian took out an even larger and better-looking chew toy. Most importantly, this one was brand new—unlike the previous one, which his own Arcanine had already chewed on and left full of bite marks.
The golden Arcanine's eyes went wide at the sight of the deluxe version of the chew toy, drool already dripping from its mouth.
"Arf—"
Julian used his hand to hold back his own Arcanine.
"Mine, that's mine. Master, you can't give it to this dumb dog!"
Arcanine looked anxiously at the chew toy in his hand.
"Relax. It only gets it if it wins. Do you really think I'll lose?"
Julian's voice echoed directly in Arcanine's mind.
Arcanine froze for a moment—then thought it over.
Right. Its master was invincible. How could he possibly lose? So it quickly calmed down.
"If you don't agree, I'll just give this chew toy to my own dog."
Julian deliberately moved the chew toy closer to his Arcanine.
The golden Arcanine's eyes went red at the sight, and it quickly said, "Fine! I agree! If I win, you give me that thing."
Julian nodded.
"Alright, come on then."
The golden Arcanine took a battle stance, though its eyes kept drifting toward the chew toy in Julian's hand.
"Let's change locations, or the magma pool will get destroyed."
Julian pointed toward the magma nearby. If they fought here, the aftershocks would definitely affect it.
The golden Arcanine nodded.
So Julian led them to a spot far away from the Terraflux magma—far enough that it wouldn't be impacted by the battle.
"Tres!"
Moltres: "Dumb dog, today I'll show you how strong I am!"
Before Julian could even send out a Pokémon, Moltres flew forward on its own.
"You?"
The golden Arcanine looked at it with utter disdain.
"Moltres, come back."
Julian called out helplessly, "It's not your turn."
Moltres turned around, staring at its trainer in disbelief.
In a battlefield like this, it was clearly the most suitable choice. Surely he wasn't planning to send out that "dumb dog" that hadn't even reached the Champion-level yet?
But Moltres was only at the early-stage Champion-level. How could it possibly defeat a level 97 King-form Arcanine?
"Metagross, you're up."
Julian sent out his strongest Pokémon—Metagross.
In the Molten Arena, unless you were a Fire-type, First-class Legendary, or had Gold-grade Potential, your strength would be suppressed.
On top of that, this golden Arcanine was practically a "chosen one," with an Ultimate treasure-grade held item boosting it.
Under these circumstances, the only Pokémon Julian could trust was Metagross.
Of course, he could also send out a First-class Legendary—but that would be a bit too much bullying.
"Meta~"
Metagross floated forward, calmly facing Arcanine.

Every time Julian saw Metagross's absurdly luxurious stats, he felt an overwhelming surge of pride—this was a Pokémon he had painstakingly raised with his own blood and effort.
"Arf~"
The moment Metagross entered the field, Arcanine suddenly felt an invisible suppression bearing down on it.
But in the very next moment, that intangible pressure vanished.
"Looks like the King Form canceled out the Gold Potential's suppression," Julian noted silently.
Metagross's Gold Potential could suppress the strength of Pokémon with Potential below Gold—Arcanine, having Purple-grade Potential, would normally have its strength reduced by 10%.
But the King Form granted immunity to all negative effects. So the two canceled each other out perfectly.
Of course, if Metagross's strength were to reach the level of a First-class Legendary, then even the King Form would absolutely be unable to offset the Gold Potential's suppression.
Seeing Metagross step forward, Moltres finally kept quiet.
As the undisputed big brother of the team, none of Julian's Pokémon questioned Metagross's strength.
Still, Moltres felt a bit puzzled—was that "dumb dog" really that strong, to warrant Metagross being sent out?
And as the battle began, that question was quickly answered.
Arcanine launched the first attack.
Despite its somewhat goofy demeanor, anyone who underestimated it would be the one paying the price.
A blazing torrent of Flamethrower erupted from Arcanine's jaws. The sheer power of it made Moltres's expression change instantly.
That Flamethrower was stronger than Moltres's own, even when boosted by the Blaze Stone.
Even as a Fire-type, taking a direct hit from that Flamethrower would not be a pleasant experience.
"Meta~"
Facing the attack, Metagross condensed a crescent-shaped Psycho Cut.
The psychic blade sliced straight through the Flamethrower, splitting it in half before crashing into the ground with a loud boom.
By then, Arcanine had already moved from its original position.
"This ground is seriously tough…"
Julian looked at the cut left behind by the attack—it was less than seven meters deep, which genuinely surprised him.
Even though the Psycho Cut had been weakened by the Flamethrower, it should've still retained at least 30% of its power. Yet the damage to the ground was unexpectedly shallow.
It seemed the rocky surface of this Molten Arena was far tougher than normal terrain.
"Arf!"
"Again!"
Arcanine let out a low bark and fired another Flamethrower.
But this one was three to four times more intense than the last. Clearly, it hadn't been using its full power earlier.
Now, having recognized Metagross as a true threat, it had dropped all underestimation.
