Chapter 1095: Chapter 1312: Kowtow Cleave
Julian had no idea that while he was battling his second uncle and putting on a show for them, these very people had let Jade's words lead their thoughts completely astray. The looks they directed at him were all tinged with something strange.
Only Julian's cousins looked more or less excited.
Ever since Julian became Champion, he had rarely battled in public, let alone participated in any open tournaments.
So now, watching Julian fight, it would be strange if their expressions weren't filled with excitement.
"Second Uncle's Mienshao is so fast—Kingambit can't even land a hit on it!"
The speaker was the daughter of Julian's third uncle. She was a die-hard fan of Julian and even served as the president of the Julian fan club in her city.
Of course, Julian himself had no idea about this.
"But Cousin will definitely win."
Emma spoke with unwavering certainty. Even though she had just praised Daniel's Mienshao, that didn't mean she was rooting for him.
On the battlefield, Kingambit's attack was once again evaded by Mienshao.
In terms of speed, among Kingambit's six base stats, Speed was the lowest. And just by looking at its physique, one could tell it was the tank type—its speed definitely wouldn't be anything impressive.
Mienshao, on the other hand, was the exact opposite of Kingambit. It followed an agile, dexterous path, and had also consumed a rare treasure that made its speed even greater.
Force Palm!
Its body appeared behind Kingambit like a phantom, its palm pressing against its back. A gentle yet explosive force burst forth from its palm.
Bang!
Kingambit's body went flying forward, but mid-flight, it relied on its immense strength to forcibly halt its tumbling body.
Aura Sphere!
The moment Kingambit was blasted away, Mienshao immediately hurled an Aura Sphere right after.
No sooner had Kingambit steadied itself than its body was struck by the Aura Sphere.
With a boom, black smoke enveloped it.
With its vision obstructed, Mienshao naturally didn't rush in recklessly.
Instead, it pulled back to increase the distance, avoiding a sudden rush from Kingambit out of the smoke.
Another Aura Sphere condensed in its hand before it hurled it toward the smoke.
Aura Sphere had a sure-hit property—even if the target couldn't be seen, as long as its aura could be sensed, the attack would automatically track the location.
Kingambit was all too familiar with Aura Sphere, because ever since its days as a Pawniard, its coach had been Lucario.
And when it came to Aura Sphere, Lucario was the true expert.
Kingambit continuously swung its Metal Claws, detonating the Aura Spheres flying toward it one after another. The shockwaves from the explosions battered its body, yet it pushed forward through them and walked out of the smoke.
Julian was a bit speechless.
There were clearly much better ways to deal with the attack, but this guy had deliberately chosen to tank the explosions with its body.
It was obviously showing off.
And showing off for whom?
Of course, for the audience watching on the sidelines.
Sure enough, seeing Kingambit walk out of the smoke while enduring the damage from multiple Aura Spheres created quite an impressive visual impact.
"What incredible defense!" one of Julian's older cousins murmured to himself.
The damage from an Aura Sphere was no joke, and Kingambit had taken more than just one head-on—meaning the damage it sustained was even greater.
Yet it showed no sign of injury whatsoever.
"Well, of course—cousin is a Steel-type trainer. The greatest strength of Steel-type Pokémon is their defense. If it were his Aggron, it could just stand there and let Mienshao attack it all day without even frowning."
Emma declared with pride, her tone on par with Jade's usual style.
Meanwhile, Julian was thinking something else.
'Kartana really is a bad influence. If we get a new teammate in the future, I absolutely can't let it corrupt the newcomer.'
Kingambit's love for showing off—that was something it had learned from Kartana, a direct result of its influence.
Fortunately, it now actually had the strength to back it up; otherwise, it would just be making a fool of itself.
Though Mienshao was surprised by its opponent's defense, it didn't stop moving. Its body flickered and vanished from the spot, then began appearing and disappearing around Kingambit in rapid succession.
It was trying to confuse and disorient Kingambit with this tactic.
And the effect was indeed quite good. Kingambit was unable to lock onto its opponent's position, so it simply stood its ground and didn't move.
Since its speed couldn't match the opponent's anyway, rather than attacking on its own initiative, it was better to wait for the opponent to come to it.
Julian wasn't in a hurry either. Such ultra-high-speed movement was indeed something, but it also meant massive stamina consumption and couldn't be maintained for long.
Seeing that Kingambit wasn't taking the initiative to attack, a flash of gold gleamed in Mienshao's eyes, and it continued circling around Kingambit at high speed.
Then it moved into Kingambit's blind spot—directly behind it.
Low Sweep!
The move came abruptly, its speed astonishingly fast. In almost an instant, the Low Sweep had already reached Kingambit.
BOOM!
The Low Sweep connected, and Mienshao couldn't help but feel a surge of joy inside.
A successful Low Sweep was supposed to lower the opponent's speed—provided, of course, that the kick actually injured the opponent's legs. Otherwise, how could it reduce speed?
But the joy in its heart instantly vanished, because it felt a force of recoil travel up from its own leg.
Despite taking the Low Sweep head-on, Kingambit's body didn't budge an inch.
To Mienshao, it felt as though it had kicked a solid wall of steel.
Kingambit hadn't just been standing there like a fool—it had been quietly using Iron Defense and Harden to boost its defenses.
So now, it was even tougher than before.
And Mienshao was learning this firsthand, in the most visceral way.
Sensing that things had taken a turn for the worse, Mienshao reacted extremely fast. Even though its leg had gone numb from the recoil, it knew its situation was dire and tried to use that same recoil force to spring away and escape Kingambit's attack range.
But things weren't going to be that simple.
This was exactly the moment Kingambit had been waiting for.
As if its left hand had grown eyes, it shot out and grabbed Mienshao's left leg and yanked hard. Mienshao felt as though its leg was about to be torn apart.
Its body was pulled uncontrollably toward Kingambit.
Kowtow Cleave!
The massive blade atop Kingambit's head radiated a terrifyingly sharp aura.
This was a move it had only gained after evolving, and it was also its signature move.
Facing the massive blade above Kingambit's head, Mienshao immediately used Protect.
Swish!
The blade came slashing down.
And before Mienshao's horrified eyes, its Protect was cleaved straight through like a watermelon.
BOOOM!!
The remaining force of the attack crashed heavily onto Mienshao's body, the sheer power driving its body straight into the ground.
Even the incredibly hard floor now began to ripple and crack.
Kingambit didn't follow up with another attack, because there was no need.
Had Julian not secretly instructed it to hold back a little, it could have ended this battle far sooner, rather than putting on a show from the start of being toyed with by Mienshao's speed.
Its speed was indeed inferior, but it had more than enough ways to overcome that.
