Chapter 1098: Chapter 1315: Gym Leader

In the backyard, Julian was playing fetch with his Arcanine. With his terrifying strength, he hurled the frisbee incredibly high, far, and fast.

If it hit someone, that person would absolutely die.

It even created a sharp whistling sound as it tore through the air.

Of course, to Arcanine, this frisbee was child's play. It caught it effortlessly, then trotted happily back to Julian and returned it.

Julian honestly couldn't understand what was so fun about this game. Even when he threw it with every ounce of his strength, Arcanine still caught it with ridiculous ease.

If something was too easy, and there was no difficulty, no challenge—that made it boring.

It was like lure fishing. If you cast dozens of times and finally catch one fish, you would be hooked and fish all day.

But if you caught a fish on every single cast, there would be no challenge, and the fun would be gone.

He threw the frisbee again, and in less than ten seconds, Arcanine had already retrieved it.

Looking at the "I'm not done playing yet" expression in Arcanine's eyes, Julian silently resigned himself to being a mindless frisbee-launching robot, mechanically hurling it over and over.

"Mage~"

Magearna came over carrying homemade juice, distributing it to the surrounding Pokémon. The cup sizes were all tailored to each Pokémon's body size.

Otherwise, for Pokémon as large as Aggron, Steelix, or Tyranitar, using a normal-sized cup would be like holding a toothpick in their mouths.

Forget drinking the juice—they'd probably swallow the cup whole.

These cups were naturally custom-made to fit their sizes, and made from ultra-high-strength glass. Otherwise, they'd never survive the abuse.

Crunch, crunch—

"Mage!"

Seeing Larvitar munching on its cup after finishing the juice, Magearna patted it in mild exasperation.

Larvitar showed an embarrassed expression. It always seemed to forget that the cups weren't edible.

With Magearna bringing over the drinks, Julian finally had an excuse to stop this boring game. He leisurely sipped his orange juice.

"It's not cold enough, Magearna. Add some ice for me."

It was already summer, and even though the orange juice was chilled, Julian still felt it wasn't cold enough. It definitely needed some ice cubes.

"Mage~"

Magearna: "Too much ice is bad for your health."

Magearna flatly refused Julian's request.

If this had been three years ago, when Julian said something like that, Magearna would have definitely added some ice for him. But three years had passed after all.

In those years, even Arcanine's level had already climbed back to the Champion tier.

And Magearna, the once-adorably clueless little disciple, now carried herself with the authority of the Walker family's third steward.

Whenever Julian made a request that she deemed unreasonable or harmful to his health, she would refuse directly.

"But I really want something colder. Please just a little bit."

Julian pressed his palms together, looking at her with hopeful eyes.

"Mage..."

Magearna let out a sigh, turned around, and left. When she returned, she was holding a box filled with ice cubes.

And these weren't just any ice cubes—they were frozen orange juice cubes, so they wouldn't dilute the flavor.

Clearly, Magearna had already known Julian would ask for ice and had prepared them in advance.

"Magearna, you're the best!"

"Mage~"

Magearna's eyes narrowed happily.

Just like Slowking, although she would refuse some of Julian's unreasonable requests, if he persisted, she would most likely give in—unless the request was extremely unreasonable.

For instance, the last time Julian said he wanted to make chicken wings with blue cola, and Slowking had flat-out refused. And no matter how much Julian pleaded, Slowking did not agree.

Another time, Julian wanted to buy some temporary tattoo stickers and play around with them—Slowking had rejected that idea as well. It even went and told Love about it.

Though Julian wasn't sure if Slowking had done it on purpose. As, it actually told Love that Julian wanted to get a tattoo, and that he wanted a Rayquaza tattooed across his shoulder.

The news made Love immediately bring out the rolling pin again.

Julian quickly explained that there was no such thing. Only then did Love reluctantly believe him.

Later, Julian even foolishly added that if he ever were to get a tattoo, it would definitely be of Love.

Love nodded. Tattoos were a no-go, but tattooing her was acceptable.

Julian: 'Heh, women.'

"Cos~"

Perhaps drawn by the scent of the juice, Nebby, who had been sleeping in the room, floated out and circled around Magearna. The latter promptly gave it a cup of juice.

Julian beckoned to it, and it happily flew into his arms.

"You've already left the infant stage. How come you still love sleeping so much?"

With his left hand stroking its head, Julian gently poked its chubby cheeks with his finger.

Over the past five years, Nebby's level had risen from 1 to 25. Although its level wasn't particularly high, it had at least grown out of infancy.

Its sleep time had decreased from over twenty hours a day to about fifteen or sixteen hours a day.

So technically, it was sleeping less than before.

"Cos~"

Nebby looked at Julian in confusion, as if asking whether there was anything wrong with sleeping a lot.

Well, there wasn't, really.

It was certainly better than those two little troublemakers spending all night playing games. Not only did they stay up gaming, they always dragged him along as well.

As a result, he was constantly sleep-deprived.

Then every morning, Slowking and Love would forcibly boot him up for breakfast.

Today happened to be Crazy Thursday, so the two little gluttons had already gone out early.

Julian would have liked to go out too, but unfortunately, someone was coming today to challenge the Gym.

He still held the position of the Steel-type Gym Leader. However, since no one had come to challenge him for so many years, Julian had nearly forgotten he even held this post.

After all, challenging his Gym now wasn't something you could just do by being an Elite-level Trainer.

To challenge Julian's Gym, two conditions had to be met.

First, the trainer's rank had to be at least Pseudo-Champion.

Second, they had to possess seventeen National-level Gym badges.

Only after meeting both these conditions would one be qualified to challenge the Gym Leader—Julian.

Otherwise, as the world's strongest, if there were no restrictions, it would totally waste his time.

And practically no one had fulfilled both conditions. At the very least, no one had come to challenge him in the past few years. Even if someone did have the strength, they were usually older and had long since lost the fiery passion of their youth.

Julian himself felt that despite still being relatively young, he had already lost most of his passion as well. Being a couch potato was his current way of life.

The challenger's appointed time was ten in the morning, and it was already past nine-forty—time was almost up.

"Magearna, has the challenger arrived yet?" Julian asked.

"Mage~"

Magearna shook her head.

"Shouldn't a challenger arrive early?"

Julian muttered, not really angry, just wishing the challenger would come sooner so he could get the battle over with faster.

"Mage?"

Magearna: "Do you want to take a look at the challenger's profile?"

Julian waved his hand dismissively, indicating it was unnecessary.
