Chapter 1097: Chapter 1314: Odd Looks
"Grandpa, what's wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Ever since the battle ended, Julian's keen senses had noticed that the way his grandfather was looking at him seemed strange.
And it wasn't just his grandfather—his grandmother, parents, uncle, and the others were all looking at him oddly.
Something was definitely off, but his grandfather's gaze was by far the strangest.
That was why Julian finally couldn't help but ask.
He touched his own face. Could it be that he had suddenly gotten even more handsome?
John's mind was in complete turmoil because of Evelyn's words. The key issue was that the more he thought about it, the more reasonable her argument seemed. Even Jade had said that Julian liked Catherine very much.
Jade was just a child, and children certainly wouldn't lie.
So could it really be that his dear grandson liked Catherine, which was why he was still single?
Thinking about Catherine's appearance and figure—something that appealed to men of all ages—it actually seemed perfectly normal for Julian to be attracted to her.
But Catherine was his junior, and she was already over sixty years old—more than thirty years older than Julian.
Even Jake and Tina were over a decade younger than her.
At this moment, Tina felt deeply conflicted as well. The thought of her son marrying Catherine—a woman more than ten years older than herself—and having that woman call her "Mom" was simply too much.
"Son, mom will never agree to this."
The more she thought about it, the more determined she became.
Although she had always hated people who broke apart couples and disliked vicious mothers-in-law, if something like this happened to her own family, then she couldn't be blamed for drawing the line.
Moreover, Catherine had an unclear and complicated relationship with her father-in-law. If her son married Catherine, what kind of situation would that even be?
Was he trying to turn their family into a soap opera?
"Anyway, it's just not happening."
Tina stated firmly once more.
Julian was completely dumbfounded, his face still full of confusion. He had absolutely no idea what was going on.
As for Jake, he was actually much more accepting internally. In his opinion, as long as his son got married, he could accept it. Forget Catherine—even if the woman were a little older, he could still accept it.
However, seeing how strongly his wife opposed the idea, Jake wisely kept his mouth shut.
"Julian, your uncle actually knows quite a few suitable young women."
Henry's thoughts were the same as Tina's—he felt that Catherine was too old.
"I think age isn't an issue. As long as it's true love, it's fine," Quinn expressed, standing on Julian's side.
Julian was completely bewildered by everyone's comments. The more they talked, the more confused he became.
His face was full of question marks.
"Dee!"
Love lowered her head and looked up Catherine's information on her phone, wanting to see if this woman was a good match for her cub.
But when she saw her age—needless to say, absolutely not.
If her cub was going to marry, it should be an eighteen-year-old. What was this about you being sixty-eight?
And why would her cub fall for this woman? When had they ever been in contact? Had he been bewitched by this woman?
No, she had to discipline him.
With that thought, Love scurried back into the house, and when she came out again, a rolling pin had appeared in her hand.
She needed to correct his twisted views on marriage—and do it quickly.
"What are you all talking about? Can someone say something I can actually understand?"
Julian felt certain that his grandfather and the others were imagining something very unhealthy. And it was clearly related to him, yet none of them were explaining it.
Acting as if he was supposed to know what it was.
"Dee!"
Just as Julian finished speaking, he saw Love charging toward him with the rolling pin raised, ready to strike.
The sight made Julian immediately back away in fright.
"Love, wait, wait!"
Julian kept retreating, watching in horror as Love approached with the disciplinary stick in hand. He hadn't done anything at all—why was he being beaten?
Could it be that beating his second uncle had made the elders lose face?
Even if that were the case, did they really have to hit him in public? With so many people watching—didn't he deserve a little dignity too?
"Kingambit!"
Seeing that Love seemed determined to strike him, Julian immediately called for his personal royal knight.
Like a great knight rushing in to protect his lord, Kingambit stepped in front of him.
"Dee!"
Love: "Get lost!"
Kingambit: "Sure thing."
Julian: "...."
"Brother, Catherine isn't right for you. Even I thinks it's not suitable."
By now, Love's rolling pin had already landed on Julian's body—though it didn't hurt at all, of course. How could Love bear to actually hurt Julian?
"Dee!"
Love: "That woman is so much older than you. I won't agree to it. She's old enough to be your grandmother!"
Combining Love's words with what Jade had said just now, Julian seemed to finally understand what this was all about.
Which only made him even more dumbfounded.
Why on earth was he being linked to Catherine out of nowhere? And since when had he ever liked her?
"Love, I like eighteen-year-olds. Celebi and Jirachi both know that. How could I possibly like Catherine? Tell me what exactly is going on."
"And besides, isn't Catherine involved with Grandpa?"
That last remark made John's face turn black on the spot. He could already feel Evelyn's murderous gaze boring into him.
Julian had been too flustered, so he ended up throwing his own grandpa under the bus.
"Dee?"
Love: "You really don't like Catherine?"
"Of course not. Why would I like her?"
Julian looked completely innocent. What in the world was all this about? He was suddenly tied to Catherine for no reason, and he'd even gotten a beating from Love over it.
Hearing Julian's words, Love let out a heavy sigh of relief and lowered the raised rolling pin.
And quite a few others breathed a sigh of relief along with her—though Quinn seemed somewhat disappointed.
"What exactly happened? Love, tell me."
Julian felt certain that someone must have said something that had led to such a huge misunderstanding.
So Love explained the whole situation.
Once he heard that Jade had played a role in it, and that her words combined with his grandmother's imagination had somehow led to the conclusion that he remained unmarried because he was in love with Catherine—
Julian was speechless.
How the hell had they arrived at that conclusion?
He looked toward his grandmother, who was feigning calm after making all those assumptions on her own.
Evelyn gave a dry cough. She really had let her imagination run wild.
She was an elder, so Julian couldn't really say anything to her.
But—
His gaze shifted toward Jade, his eyes gradually growing dangerous.
This little sister of his was a bit too mischievous. To prevent her from causing some major disaster in the future, a good beating right now seemed in order.
Taking the disciplinary stick from Love's hand, Julian walked step by step toward Jade.
Sensing that things were about to go badly, Jade tried to run, but Celebi and Jirachi held her firmly in place on both sides—she couldn't move an inch.
It wasn't so easy to swindle their allowance money. Woman, your day of reckoning has come.
The two little ones looked at Jade with increasingly menacing expressions.
"Brother, I didn't mean it that way!"
Jade finally knew how to beg for mercy. Unfortunately, it was already too late.
