Chapter 924: It’s Your Child

No wonder Julian's face looked so grim.

After fighting the boss monster for so long, not only did it revive at full health right where it fell, but it even leveled up.

Meanwhile, on his side, the twin dragons were in declining condition, Mewtwo's summoning time had just over a minute left, and the effect of Unown's Protection had already worn off.

The enemy had only lost Lyle, and his death had been extremely worthwhile.

Julian looked at his remaining Mewtwo fragments—eighty left.

Well, he still had a sense of security, but why did his heart feel like it was bleeding?

"All of you shall perish."

Yveltal's voice was calm, but Julian could still detect the immense rage and killing intent hidden within. After all, it had been beaten so miserably by him earlier—it was only natural that it wanted to reclaim its dignity.

Julian looked at Metagross: "Metagross… this is really giving me a headache."

"Meta~"

Metagross: "How about we have Mewtwo Self-Destruct?"

"What are you saying—well that actually seems… worth considering."

Julian's expression shifted from disbelief to contemplation.

Self-Destruct… it might actually work.

Self-Destruct, Explosion, and similar moves were attacks trainers only resorted to in the most desperate situations.

Most Pokémon raised by trainers learned one or two of these.

Self-Destruct involved a Pokémon using its life force to detonate the energy within its body. The power could exceed its own level by one tier—meaning a pseudo-Elite level Pokémon using Self-Destruct could injure an Elite-level Pokémon, or even take one down with luck.

Of course, once Self-Destruct was used, if the Pokémon was already severely injured, it would certainly die after the explosion.

Even if it miraculously survived, its lifespan would be greatly reduced, leaving it with only a few years to live.

A Pokémon in peak condition using Self-Destruct wouldn’t die outright, but would fall into a near-death state, and after recovery, its level would drop.

Some naturally gifted species suffered far fewer side effects from using Self-Destruct. A typical example was Voltorb and Electrode. After self-destructing, they only needed to rest for a while before they were "alive and kicking" again.

Because of this trait, such Pokémon became the favorites of terrorist organizations.

Voltorb was easy to raise and existed in huge numbers—making it the go-to Pokémon for terrorist groups. Of course, many trainers also specifically raised such Pokémon—their utility went without saying.

Even ordinary Pokémon could unleash terrifying power when using Self-Destruct. If Mewtwo were the one to use the move… just thinking about it sent a chill down Julian's spine.

The sheer destructive force was beyond comprehension.

Mewtwo had been summoned using fragments, so even if it was to Self-Destruct and perish, Julian could theoretically resummon it using the fragments.

However, the explosion from Mewtwo's Self-Destruct would be so unimaginably powerful that if it happened here, the resulting shockwaves and tsunami wouldn't just obliterate Babath—even neighboring nations like Wyvernia and Drakoria would suffer horrific collateral damage.

So even if Self-Destruct had to be used, it definitely couldn’t be used here.

Julian lifted his head and looked up at the sky. If Self-Destruct was to be used, that would be the most suitable location.

But—

Looking at the Mewtwo in front of him, even though this guy was just summoned using system fragments, he genuinely liked this proud creature.

Moreover, despite being fragment-summoned, Mewtwo wasn't a puppet. It was a real, living Pokémon with emotions and consciousness—albeit one that would disappear after five minutes.

This was why Julian hesitated. Mewtwo wasn't a tool, and he had long since come to regard it as his own Pokémon.

The bond between a Trainer and their Pokémon was a two-way street—far stronger and more profound than so-called romantic love.

"You're hesitating."

A voice suddenly echoed in Julian's mind.

He saw that even while battling Yveltal, Mewtwo had the spare capacity to glance back at him—its eyes proud, and expression aloof.

'Damn, how can this guy be so cool?'

"Don’t peek into my mind."

Julian’s face darkened. Couldn't it focus on the fight? Didn't it realize how powerful Yveltal had become?

"I did not peek, nor can I," Mewtwo's voice came again. "Your expression is just too obvious."

"Hesitation will lead to defeat."

That line sounded oddly chuuni, making Julian suspect Mewtwo had been browsing TikTok, but the words were true.

Hesitation would lead to defeat.

"Screw it!" Julian cursed under his breath.

While Self-Destruct might be an option for other trainers' Pokémon, it was out of the question for his own—even if Mewtwo only existed for five minutes.

And he would eventually summon Mewtwo completely one day. If this proud creature remembered blowing itself up for him, it would definitely settle the score later.

Anyway it wasn't like he lacked fragments—he had plenty. At worst, he'd just summon Mewtwo completely a bit later.

'Wait—later…'

He lifted his head. The moon was quite round tonight.

The World Youth Championships finals had ended in late evening, followed by the ceremony and the exhibition match between Julian and Williams.

By the time Lyle made his flashy entrance, it was already quite late.

"Metagross, what time is it now?" Julian asked.

"Meta~"

"12:01 AM… 133 days left until my birthday."

"I don’t need you to remind me! I know!"

Julian felt a bit frustrated and ashamed. So what if he forgot its birthday last year? Did it have to hold a grudge? Its pettiness knew no bounds.

"I want a hat."

"I'll buy you a green one then."

Julian glared angrily at Metagross, then turned away, refusing to speak further with this petty creature. Time was of the essence.

It was now past midnight, meaning his Unown's Protection had reset and could be used again.

"System, extend Mewtwo's duration," Julian said inwardly.

As ten fragments vanished, Mewtwo gained another five minutes of existence.

The fragment count had now dropped to seventy.

"Mew~"

Just as Julian was about to apply Unown's Protection to Mewtwo, a pink figure suddenly appeared before him.

"Mew!"

"B*tch!"

Julian's voice was surprised, while Celebi's was furious.

"What are you doing here?"

Celebi jumped down from Julian's head, glaring at the newcomer with an unkind expression.

But the next second, Julian placed it back on his head.

"Celebi, Mew is a good kid. Don't be so mean to it."

After scolding Celebi, Julian turned to Mew. "Mew, you came at the perfect time. Given our relationship, and since I'm being bullied right now, could you help me out?"

"Mew?"

Mew tilted its head, looking at Julian, then pointed at Mewtwo, who was battling Yveltal.

"Why does it have aura similar to me?"

Mewtwo was a genetically engineered Pokémon created primarily from Mew's DNA, combined with those of other Pokémon.

So naturally, it carried aura similar to Mew.

Julian glanced at Mewtwo to ensure it wasn't paying attention, then leaned close to Mew's ear and whispered, "It's your child. So... could you help your kid out?"

Mew: ⊙0⊙

Mew: 'For real?'
