Chapter 935: Champion
Chapter 935: Champion
Half a month quickly passed. The "Cocoon of Destruction" around Gengar had become noticeably thinner, and Julian could even faintly see Gengar's white form through it.
It seemed Gengar would likely emerge in a little while.
Over the past two weeks, Julian hadn't left Gengar's side for a moment. He periodically checked it with the Probing Eyes, afraid that something unexpected might happen.
If something did went wrong, he could intervene immediately.
BOOM!
A loud explosion sounded in the distance.
Julian was already used to it. Without even thinking, he knew it was Kartana fighting against that peak Pseudo-Champion Scizor.
This was the core area of the White Mountain Range. Besides Champion-level wild Pokémon, there were naturally Pseudo-Champions as well.
For the past half-month, Kartana had been fighting that Scizor almost daily. The Scizor was also extremely battle-hungry.
At first, it looked down on Kartana, who was only at the mid-stage Pseudo-Champion level. But after being wounded by Kartana, it shed its contempt.
Since then, the two had been battling almost every day. The surrounding trees and Pokémon had suffered greatly—everything nearby had been flattened by these two troublemakers.
Julian was currently leaning on Arcanine’s back. The dog was sound asleep, completely unaffected by the sounds of battle nearby.
Julian, Celebi, and Jirachi were holding their phones, playing Pokémon Glory.
Question: Why was there a signal in the core area of a forbidden zone?
Answer: Because Julian couldn't stand the boredom and installed a signal tower.
As long as he was here, wild Pokémon wouldn't dare approach to damage the tower. Once he left, the tower would be useless anyway.
This wasn't like a Secret Realm. In a Secret Realm, a signal tower would be pointless—the space inside was only connected to the real world by a "door," essentially isolated.
"You trash! Do you even know how to play? I tanked three opponents by myself, and you, as a marksman, didn’t even kill one," Julian looked at his respawn timer, then at Celebi's Decidueye marksman. It had been crouching and aiming for ages, only to miss its shot.
For f**k' sake, the three opponents were literally standing together, and it still missed.
"They predicted my prediction," Celebi argued confidently.
"Jirachi, stop supporting Celebi. Come with me instead. This guy is useless."
Jirachi nodded. As a support, sticking with the marksman was meant to protect it and, of course, secure a few assists. But now, not a single assist had been gained. Instead, it had died several times because Celebi had abandoned it.
The match ended in less than ten minutes, with their crystal destroyed.
On the results screen, Julian reported all four of his teammates—except himself.
Naturally, Celebi and Jirachi did the same.
Looking at his own MVP status—even though it was only a score of 6, it was still MVP. The others all had scores of either 4 or 5, and that trash Celebi only had a 3.
Crack—
Crack—!!
Just as Julian was about to start his fifth match, a series of cracking sounds echoed.
Looking over, he saw the "Cocoon of Destruction" now covered in fissures. The cracking noises were coming from it.
Seeing this, Julian immediately put down his phone. It seemed Gengar was about to emerge.
About three minutes later, all the fragments had fallen off, and as they dropped, they turned to dust and vanished.
With the "Cocoon of Destruction" gone, Gengar's plump, white body was revealed. However, it still had its eyes closed, and a snot bubble expanded and contracted with its breathing.
As the snot bubble popped, Gengar's body gave a slight shudder. Its eyes snapped open, and a powerful aura involuntarily radiated from it.
Julian's eyes lit up instantly.
This was the aura of a Champion!
He immediately used his Probing Eyes to inspect Gengar.

---
It had directly leapt from mid-stage Pseudo-Champion to the peak of early-stage Champion-level! Moreover, Gengar hadn't fully absorbed the Death Essence yet, and its level would still continue to rise.
As for potential, although it was still Purple, half of it had already turned Gold.
As expected of the "Chosen One" of the Pokémon world. Gengar was the one who had used the most Ultimate treasures besides Metagross. Now, it had even utilized the essence of a First-class Legendary—something even Metagross had never enjoyed.
From the defense battle of Babath, the biggest beneficiary wasn't Julian. Besides gaining some fame, he hadn't really gotten much out of it; in fact, he had lost twenty Mewtwo fragments.
Gengar was the true winner in ghost life—lying around and effortlessly enjoying all the benefits.

[Ding!]
[Main Quest, Stage Three completed: Train three Champion-level Pokémon.]
[Quest rewards have already been issued.]
---
The surprises weren't over. The system's notification reminded Julian that he still had a main quest called "Champion's Path."
It had six stages, corresponding to the number of Champion-level Pokémon he possessed.
The reward for the third stage was 200,000 points and sixteen Mewtwo fragments.
Previously, he had used twenty Mewtwo fragments, leaving seventy. Now, with the additional sixteen, the total had reached eighty-six.
At first glance, the loss didn't seem too severe. But upon careful thought, the loss was actually quite significant.
If Julian hadn't summoned Mewtwo back then, adding these sixteen fragments would have brought him to a hundred Mewtwo fragments—enough to summon Mewtwo permanently.
Of course, things couldn't really be viewed that way. If Julian hadn't summoned Mewtwo, the consequences would have been hard to predict. Moreover, it was Mewtwo who had knocked out that fragment of Death Essence from Yveltal.
Without that small fragment of Death Essence, Gengar wouldn't have become a Champion so soon.
Cause and effect—there was no need to dwell on such things.
Julian only felt a slight pang of regret. He figured that as long as he didn't encounter such a situation again, where even Zekrom and Reshiram couldn't handle it—he wouldn't need to summon Mewtwo. Thinking this way, he would eventually summon Mewtwo permanently sooner or later.
