Chapter 934: Gengar Edition

Chapter 934: Gengar Edition

Gengar indicated that it was a coward, while Julian expressed that apart from it, there were no other suitable Pokémon, and he didn’t want to train a new one from scratch.

However, fusing with the Death Essence indeed carried certain risks. Even the Probing Eyes mentioned it could potentially cause death. Considering his own notoriously cursed-luck attribute, Julian thought perhaps Gengar had an innate ability to avoid danger and misfortune.

Wait—no, this guy was just betting on his cursed-luck.

While vigorously rubbing Gengar’s chubby cheeks with both hands, Julian shifted his focus to the System Shop, searching for something that could help Gengar fuse with the Death Essence more safely.

He kept rubbing Gengar’s face for a solid ten minutes, until Gengar could barely feel its own cheeks, before finally stopping.

"Gen?"

Gengar looked at Julian in confusion, as if asking why he had stopped.

Meanwhile, Julian had already turned his attention to an item in the shop.

---

[Lucky Charm: Increases luck for one hour after use. (Can be stacked—up to ten charms maximum.)]

---

Each charm cost 50,000 points. To be safe, he definitely had to use all ten—five hundred thousand points total.

500,000 points versus Gengar’s life.

Julian actually hesitated, even though he still had more than four million points.

Pat~

He lightly patted Gengar’s head and muttered, "I’m really not human—how could I hesitate?"

So he directly bought ten Lucky Charms.

After using them, Julian didn’t feel anything special happen.

But he had a way to test it.

"Metagross, go buy me a stack of scratch-off lottery tickets."

Metagross looked at Julian in confusion—why was his mind jumping all over the place?—but it still teleported away and went to buy them.

About three minutes later, Metagross returned with a stack of scratch-off tickets.

The stack contained a hundred in total, each worth one hundred bucks, with a maximum prize of 10 million.

When Julian scratched the first one, he found that he had won five hundred.

"Hmm, looks like it really works."

And then he stopped scratching. Why? Because luck could run out. If he kept scratching and accidentally hit a major prize, he might burn all his luck.

If his cursed-luck attribute returned afterward, wouldn’t Gengar be dead for sure?

He took out a bottle of mineral water and washed his hands and face.

After finishing, Julian felt that his luck had reached its peak.

"Mysticism can't save the non-believer, chlorine can't change fate. The world is all non-believers, only I am the believer," Julian mumbled a few phrases before grabbing Gengar, and before it could react, he shoved the Death Essence into its mouth.

Gengar: "Mmmph mmmph—!"

Gulp!

As Gengar swallowed, the Death Essence went down its throat.

"Gen! Gen!!"

Gengar: "I'm dying, I'm dying, I'm dying!"

Watching Gengar rolling around on the ground, claiming it was dying, yet its face showed no sign of pain at all.

"Alright, focus and feel what changes are happening," Julian said, his eyes fixed on Gengar. Under the Probing Eyes, its condition was completely visible.

"Gen?"

Gengar patted its body in confusion—it really seemed fine. Then it began sensing itself, and at this moment, tendrils of black mist started emanating from inside it.

It was the Death Energy. Julian was startled. Metagross quickly moved to pull Julian back, but he stopped it because he noticed the death energy was only swirling around Gengar.

As more and more death energy emerged, Gengar clearly became a bit panicked.

"Gengar it's fine, relax."

Julian's voice reached its ears, and Gengar's expression gradually steadied.

After a few seconds, the death energy completely wrapped around Gengar. The dense black mist made Julian unable to see Gengar at all.

But the Probing Eyes remained active.

Finally, the death energy condensed into a hard shell, looking almost like the Cocoon of Destruction, just smaller.

[Gengar: Absorbing Power of Death. No danger detected.]

Seeing the feedback from the Probing Eyes, Julian finally relaxed. No danger meant it had succeeded. It seemed his 500,000 points weren't wasted.

He took out a Poké Ball, intending to recall Gengar, but the red beam was blocked. It seemed Gengar in this state couldn't be recalled.

"Metagross, carry Gengar. Let's leave this place," Julian said.

However, Metagross shook its head, indicating it couldn't move the "Cocoon of Destruction—Gengar Edition." There was a resisting force; forcibly moving it might harm Gengar inside.

Now Julian was in a dilemma.

He had no idea how long Gengar would take to absorb the Power of Death. A short time would be fine, but if it took a long time, wouldn't he have to stay here indefinitely?

After thinking it over, Julian released all his Pokémon, planning to stay here for the next few days and observe the situation before deciding anything else.

Zekrom and Reshiram immediately fixed their gazes on the "Cocoon of Destruction—Gengar Edition." The aura of death emanating from it was simply too familiar.

"This is Gengar. We'll be staying here for the next few days," Julian explained.

The Pokémon naturally had no objections. Compared to the city, most Pokémon preferred staying in the wild.

Why "most" and not "all"? Because upon hearing this, Celebi immediately became listless.

Julian was currently deep in a forbidden zone—in the heart of the mountains and thick forests. There was absolutely no signal here.

No access to social media, no playing Pokémon Glory, the phone could only be used as a flashlight. For Celebi, this was pure torment.

To be honest, Julian was the same.

As a modern person, he played with his phone when bored, during breaks, even in the bathroom, and even sneaked a peek while working.

"Slow~"

Slowking observed the surroundings. There should be plenty of wild vegetables, berries, and mushrooms around. It called out to Lucario and its little apprentice, Magearna, and led them off to gather ingredients, preparing for tonight's dinner.

Dragonite, Garchomp, and Salamence stared at Zekrom and Reshiram. These were true Dragon-type Legendaries! Their presence, their aura—truly worthy of being their Dragon-type seniors.

Dragonite: 'My position as the big brother of the Dragons might not hold anymore.'

The Pokémon world especially favored Dragon-types. Not only were most pseudo-legendaries Dragon-type, but many First-class Legendaries were also Dragon-type. Therefore, the Dragon typing had always been the strongest among the eighteen types—no doubt about it.

To become a Dragon-type Trainer, your family needed to hand you several tens of millions to burn through right from the start. If your family assets weren't substantial, you'd better choose another Type.

Reshiram and Zekrom lay on the ground, taking a light nap. Although these Pokémon were all Julian's partners—and so were they—they were First-class Legendaries. A sense of pride was ingrained in their nature.

It was already quite good that they weren’t releasing their aura to drive the others away.
