Chapter 947: Excadrill
Chapter 947: Excadrill
Metagross left, and Julian released all of his Pokémon.
"Slowking, we’ll rest here today."
The area of a Top-tier Secret Realm was vast. For Metagross to scan the entire realm and locate the exit portal, it would take at least two to three days.
So Julian decided to wait here for Metagross during this time.
"Kartana, clear an open space."
Kartana swung its arms, swiftly cutting down all the trees within a five-hundred-meter radius. These trees were then gathered, potentially to be used as firewood.
Julian wondered whether these partially metallic trees would even burn.
Crunch! Crunch!
Watching Aggron and Duraludon munch on the trees—each taking a bite that halved them—was like watching someone eat fries.
The sound was oddly crisp.
Tyranitar joined in too, but after just one bite, it lost interest. Apparently, the taste wasn't to its liking.
After all, compared to metal, it preferred rocks.
Julian carefully observed his non-Steel-type Pokémon like Arcanine and Dragonite. While the dense Steel-type energy in this Secret Realm didn’t make it uninhabitable for non-Steel-types, it did have some effect on them.
For instance, their leveling speed wouldn’t match that of Steel-type Pokémon.
"Arf!"
Arcanine: "I don’t like it here."
Sure enough, the dense Steel-type energy made Arcanine somewhat uncomfortable.
The higher a Pokémon’s level, the more sensitive it was to the surrounding energy. If it was just an Advanced-level Arcanine, it wouldn’t have felt this way.
"Then return to your Poké Ball."
Julian took out a Poké Ball.
"Never mind."
Arcanine quickly shook its head.
It still preferred staying outside.
Although it felt a bit uncomfortable, it was tolerable. The sensation was similar to how humans might feel when the environment was humid on a rainy day with high humidity—it was roughly like that.
As long as you didn't care, it essentially had no impact.
"Fussy."
Moltres scoffed from the side.
"Stupid bird, you shut your mouth!"
Arcanine bared its teeth, glaring unfriendly at Moltres. Even though Moltres was a Champion, Arcanine wasn’t intimidated at all—because Moltres wouldn’t dare go all out against it.
Moltres: 'If you weren’t a teammate, I’d have roasted you long ago.'
"Do you even have the right to tell me to shut up, dumb dog?"
"Stupid bird."
"Dumb dog."
"Stupid bird."
Watching the bird and dog bicker again, Julian was hardly surprised. If they went a day without arguing, he'd actually find it strange.
"You're the only quiet one."
He patted Steelix, who had immediately lain down in front of him after being released. When it came to lazing around, Steelix was the undisputed champion.
Just as he finished patting it, Steelix, with its head resting on the ground, suddenly rose up.
Steelix: "There’s something underground."
The next second, the other Pokémon sensed something too, looking around.
Then the ground around Julian and his team began to tremble slightly. Small mounds of earth emerged, and one by one, Excadrill popped out of the ground.
Ten, dozens, hundreds.
Over a minute later, an estimated three to four hundred Excadrill surrounded Julian, encircling him completely.
"Everyone, I’ve just arrived in your esteemed territory. If I’ve offended you in any way, I hope you’ll be understanding."
Julian, ever the drama king, stood up and made a slight fist-salute gesture to the surrounding Excadrill.
Clang! Clang! Clang!
Gengar pulled a gong out of its belly, and struck it a few times.
Gengar really knew how to put on a show.
Speaking of which, why did it even have a gong in its belly, anyway?
The Excadrill were a bit confused. They had come intending to drive Julian away, but this unexpected performance was something they’d never seen before.
"Here, let me perform something for everyone—chugging a can of cola in one go!"
With that, Julian took out a can of cola and gulped it down.
Gulp, gulp, gulp—
"Pfft!"
Unable to withstand the carbonation’s stimulation on his tongue and throat, he spat it out.
Performance failed.
Clap, clap, clap!
Gengar immediately started clapping its little hands.
It seemed to be applauding how impressively the cola had sprayed out, even forming a rainbow-like arc.
"Gen~"
Gengar: "Come on, pay up!"
The concept of "money" was lost on the Excadrill, but one thing was clear: when Julian spat out the cola, some of it splattered onto the face of one of them—who happened to be the leader of this group.
So now, this Excadrill was furious.
'In this area, I am the undisputed boss. How dare you spray—'
Just as this peak Elite-level Excadrill was about to erupt and teach Julian a lesson, the Gengar in front of it suddenly grinned at it. At the same time, it felt more than a dozen powerful auras locking onto it.
Over half of these auras filled it with despair, and several of them almost made it lose control of its bodily functions.
"Sorry, boss."
The Excadrill leader didn't hesitate—it immediately knelt on the ground.
The surrounding underlings were dumbfounded. 'Big brother, what are you doing?'
However, as Zekrom and Reshiram's gaze fell upon them, they quickly understood why their leader was kneeling.
So, they too dropped to their knees in unison.
Hundreds of Excadrill kneeling on the ground—it was quite a comical sight.
"...Truly spineless."
Kartana crossed its arms, looking down with utter contempt on these creatures that surrendered before even fighting.
Facing Kartana’s mockery—and the fact that the killing intent emanating from it was the most intense among all the Pokémon present—the Excadrill leader responded:
"You’re absolutely right, boss. I am spineless."
The Excadrill leader expressed that the reason it could become a peak Elite—besides having talent itself—the most important thing was that it understood when to advance and retreat.
In the past, there were others in its clan with greater talent or stronger abilities than its own. But they were all dead now, while it was thriving—with over a dozen mates and the position of leader.
Even Kartana was left speechless by this guy.
"A real talent."
Julian nodded in approval.
In most cases, Pokémon in the wild or in secret Realms—except for those with naturally gentle tempers—tended to be hot-headed when facing intruders. They fought regardless of how strong the intruder was.
The Excadrill here had numerical superiority, yet they surrendered without a fight.
"Boss, can we leave now?"
The Excadrill leader expressed that it just wanted to get away from this place as quickly as possible. The Secret Realm was vast—it could always find another territory.
But Julian shook his head, causing the leader’s heart to sink.
'If this guy dares to harm my clan... I’ll fight him to the death.'
Sensing the Excadrill leader’s inner thoughts, Julian regarded it with even greater admiration.
It knew when to back down and when to go all out—it had a good grasp of the balance.
Unfortunately, its appearance didn’t meet his aesthetic standards. Otherwise, he might have considered capturing this Excadrill.
