Chapter 948: Metagross Is Back
Chapter 948: Metagross Is Back
Julian waved his hand, signaling the Excadrill to leave, as he hadn’t intended to do anything to them in the first place.
Seeing this, the Excadrill leader immediately led its followers to burrow away, probably at the fastest speed it had ever dug in its life.
In the blink of an eye, hundreds of Excadrill vanished from the spot.
Looking at the hundreds of holes left behind, Julian was speechless. If someone with poor eyesight went to use the bathroom at night and stepped into one of these holes, they’d probably fall right in.
"Steelix, patch these up," Julian said.
Steelix lightly tapped its tail on the ground, and as Ground-type energy flowed in, the hundreds of holes began to fill rapidly, like wounds closing up. Soon, the repairs were complete.
Julian finished the remaining cola, not wanting to waste it. After all, he was only allowed one can of cola a day.
"Julian, look!"
Jirachi’s cheerful voice rang in Julian’s ears. He saw Jirachi open its small backpack, which contained some unfamiliar berries.
[Snakefruit Berry: Poisonous. If consumed, it can cause diarrhea in mild cases and unconsciousness in severe cases.]
[Wood Berry: Extremely bitter. One bite, and your mouth will taste bitter for a month.]
[Grassplot Berry: Slightly sweet in taste but causes paralysis.]
There were about two or three of each type of berry, but none of them were safe for normal consumption.
"Julian, do you want to eat one?"
Jirachi took out a Snakefruit berry and offered it to Julian.
"Thanks, but no. It’s poisonous—you shouldn’t eat it either," Julian said, shaking his head.
Berries were like wild mushrooms—if you didn’t know what they were, it was best not to eat them, or you might end up dead.
These three kinds of berries were likely unique to this secret realm. At least, Julian had never seen them outside.
Humans definitely couldn’t eat these berries, but some Pokémon could.
Snakefruit berry was poisonous, but Poison-type Pokémon could eat it. Not only would it fill their stomachs, but the toxins in the berry could also be absorbed to enhance their Poison-type abilities.
Wood berry was extremely bitter, but some Pokémon actually enjoyed bitter-tasting food.
As for the Grassplot Berry, it had already been eaten by the gluttonous Steelix. The berry gave off a faint, pleasant fragrance.
After eating it, Steelix’s body trembled slightly, but it didn’t become paralyzed. With its strength, the only way a berry could paralyze it was if it ate... well, a whole lot more.
Julian stayed in this place for three days. Around 10 a.m. on the third day, Metagross who had gone out to explore the secret realm returned.
Metagross had been gone for three days, but Julian wasn’t worried. Unless this secret realm had a First-class Legendary in an awakened state, no other Pokémon could pose a threat to Metagross—not even a peak Champion.
"So, did you find the exit portal?" Julian asked expectantly.
Metagross shook its head.
"Tsk, your luck really is terrible," Julian said disdainfully.
The outcome was exactly as he had expected, so he wasn’t particularly disappointed. In fact, he had already guessed as much.
"How did the exploration of this secret realm go?"
Metagross had spent three days traversing the entire secret realm. With its supercomputer-like brain, it had naturally recorded the terrain and topography of the entire area.
Julian took out his laptop, and Metagross transferred the data to it.
"Rivers, deserts, plains, forests, mountains, and magnetic valleys…"
Looking at the data transmitted by Metagross on the laptop, this Top-tier secret realm spanned approximately four million square kilometers—an area larger than many countries.
Of course, for a Top-tier secret realm, this wasn’t particularly large. The largest Top-tier secret realm was located in a small European country, covering nearly thirty million square kilometers, almost the size of a small continent.
Most discovered Top-tier secret realms ranged between three to six million square kilometers, so the one before him, at four million, was within the typical range.
Fortunately, it wasn’t too large. If it had exceeded ten million square kilometers, Julian would have had almost no chance of exploring it thoroughly within six months.
At the same time, the larger the secret realm, the lower the chance of finding the exit portal.
For that thirty-million-square-kilometer Top-tier secret realm, the small country sent over a dozen teams in succession, none of which returned.
They had no choice but to seek help from Celestria, who also dispatched four teams.
It ultimately took them eleven years to locate the secret realm's exit.
Few of the earlier teams survived, and the Celestrians even lost a Pseudo-Champion-level trainer in the process.
However, the benefits Celestria gained from that secret realm far outweighed the loss of a Pseudo-Champion.
According to the map, Julian was currently in the forest region—though this secret realm certainly didn’t have just one forest.
He was now in the southeastern corner of the map, and just ahead lay the desert area.
"Meta~"
Metagross: "There are some unknown Pokémon in the desert area."
"Oh!"
Julian's eyes lit up with interest.
Discovering unknown Pokémon was like opening a mystery box—you might get something like a pseudo-legendary level find, or you might end up with something like a Rattata.
"Let's go take a look."
Julian climbed onto Metagross's back.
"Arf!"
Arcanine: "I'll take you there!"
"Alright."
Thinking it had been a while since he last rode this "land cruiser," Julian hopped onto Arcanine's back and recalled all his other Pokémon, leaving only Metagross.
"Let's go, buddy!"
Julian gestured forward with a flourish.
The next second, a powerful jolt almost snapped his neck as Arcanine demonstrated its zero-to-a-hundred acceleration in a fraction of a second.
Arcanine raced across the ground, weaving effortlessly through the surrounding trees.
When it came to speed on land, Arcanine had few rivals. Even most Flying-type Pokémon couldn't outpace it.
Julian wrapped himself in a psychic barrier, or he wouldn't have been able to keep his eyes open.
Annoyed, he gave Arcanine a light pat.
"Slow down! I'm not in a hurry to reincarnate."
He then adjusted his neck, which had made unsettling cracking sounds just moments ago. He hadn't died at the hands of an enemy but had almost met his end on the back of his own Pokémon.
Arcanine slowed down, expressing that it had just gotten too excited and had picked up too much speed.
Julian took out his Dowsing Machine to see if there were any treasures along the way to the desert.
Ten red dots quickly appeared on the display, but none were particularly large. Julian wasn't interested—only sub-Ultimate or higher-level treasures were useful to him now.
Anything else would just be snacks for his Pokémon, and even then, they probably wouldn't be as effective as eating Pokéblocks.
The higher a Pokémon's level, the higher the quality of treasures that would benefit them.
Thus, high-quality treasures were sought after mainly by Pokémon at the Elite-level or higher. This also drove up the price of such treasures far beyond those suitable for Pokémon below the Elite-level.
