Chapter 954: Pawniard
Chapter 954: Pawniard
Aside from capturing the Durant Queen and its offspring in the secret realm, Julian hadn't caught any other Pokémon, mainly because none of them caught his eye.
The Pokémon here also didn't have the foresight like Steelix, who had seen Julian as a massive potential stock and then shamelessly followed him.
Now Julian was no longer just a potential stock—he was a stock riding a rocket.
In this Top-tier secret realm, Julian also found Champion-level Pokémon—not just one, but three of them.
All three were Steel-type, which aligned with Julian's preferences, but he had no intention of capturing them.
For one, these wild Champion-level Pokémon were used to being alone and unrestrained.
For another, he already had enough Pokémon for now. And even if he did capture them, the system wouldn't acknowledge these Champion-level Pokémon as being trained by him, so the main quest would still remain uncompleted.
However, he did give all three Champion-level Pokémon a good thrashing.
These three Champion-level Pokémon were Steelix, Magnezone, and Kingambit, with the strongest being the level 95 Kingambit.
Kingambit was the evolved form of Bisharp.
In the outside world, it had yet to be discovered that Bisharp could evolve further. Many believed that Bisharp was already the final evolutionary stage.
The conditions for Bisharp to evolve into Kingambit were extremely demanding: it must defeat three Bisharp leaders in a group who possess the Leader's Crest.
Simply put, for Bisharp to evolve into Kingambit, it must defeat the leaders of three Bisharp tribes, and these leaders must carry the Leader's Crest item.
The Leader's Crest was a unique item that formed when an exceptionally skilled Bisharp died, with its yellow head blade transforming into the Leader's Crest—during battles for tribal leadership among Bisharp, the victor typically killed the loser and took their yellow head blade.
This evolution condition was filled with too much randomness, much like how Farfetch'd must land three critical hits in a single battle to defeat its opponent and evolve into Sirfetch'd.
Because the evolution conditions were so circumstantial, Pokémon researchers had yet to discover that Bisharp could evolve further.
Julian greatly admired Kingambit. Its physical structure seemed almost tailor-made for combat, and it possessed an incredibly strong fighting spirit.
However, precisely because its fighting spirit was too strong, even after being defeated several times by Metagross and Moltres, this guy still refused to submit.
It even outright rejected Julian's invitation.
This was the first time a Pokémon had ever refused him, and Julian felt a bit upset. So, he left with Metagross.
Julian: 'Only I can reject Pokémon—Pokémon are not allowed to reject me.'
"Ahhh, this is so infuriating!"
While eating the dinner Slowking had prepared, Julian suddenly flipped his bowl upside down on the table, scattering all the rice across it.
Slowking put down its chopsticks.
Julian immediately swept all the rice grains on the table back into his bowl.
Slowking picked up its chopsticks again.
Julian breathed a sigh of relief.
"No, I can't swallow this anger," Julian said, putting his bowl down again, though this time he set it down properly instead of flipping it.
"Tres~"
Moltres: "Then I'll go burn that guy to a crisp right now."
Arcanine: "What does this have to do with you? Leave it to me. I'll bite it to death."
Moltres: "Dumb dog, you can't even beat it."
Arcanine: "Nonsense! Do you know what it means to fight above your tier?"
The two biggest bootlickers immediately offered to solve Julian's problem. Disrespecting their trainer meant disrespecting them, after all.
Of course, deep down, they hoped Kingambit wouldn't join. There were already enough brothers and sisters in the family. If it joined, wouldn't Julian's "harem" grow even larger?
And if it came in at Champion-level strength, how were Pokémon below Champion-level supposed to survive?
Moltres, a Champion itself, also didn't want this guy to join. After all, if it did, Moltres would no longer be one of Julian's only three Champion-level Pokémon.
Gengar, on the other hand, liked the idea of the other joining, because then it would have another target to prank.
Metagross didn't care either way. No matter how many joined, they couldn't shake its status as the "head of the household"—they were all just flashy upstarts anyway. 'What are you looking at? I'm talking about you, you stupid bird.'
Moltres looked at Metagross, originally wanting to ask for its opinion, but Metagross's gaze seemed to be cursing it.
What was it being cursing about?
"Stupid bird, why are you looking at Big Bro? Do you think Big Bro would help you? Idiot!"
Distracted by Arcanine's taunt, Moltres immediately shifted its attention back to the fiery dog, and the two started bickering again.
The dog called it a "stupid bird," and the bird called it a "dumb dog."
"Someone's coming," Metagross suddenly said.
"I'll go!"
Arcanine, who had been bickering with Moltres, twitched its ears slightly, locked onto the source of the sound, and with a push of its hind legs, vanished from the spot.
When it returned, it was carrying something in its mouth.
With a thud, it flung that thing onto the ground.
Pawniard stood up, shaking off Arcanine's saliva. The next moment, it charged straight toward Julian, the blades on its arms aimed at his abdomen.
Julian didn't even glance at it.
Bang!
Pawniard was sent flying by Steelix's tail.
It crashed into several large trees.
Watching the trembling Pawniard struggle to its feet, Julian was a bit surprised.
Although Steelix had held back most of its strength, that strike wasn't something a Level 20 Pawniard should have been able to withstand.
It was lucky to be even alive, but it still had the strength to get back up?
Watching it staggering step by step toward Julian, its arm fractured and its leg slightly deformed, under such circumstances every movement was sheer agony.
Such perseverance caught Kartana's attention, its eyes showing appreciation.
"Mage!"
Magearna was furious that this creature dared attack its trainer. It stepped forward, ready to deliver a punch and finish it off completely.
"Let it come," Julian said, stopping Magearna and the other Pokémon ready to intervene.
The distance between Julian and Pawniard was about five hundred meters. In its condition, it took a full half-hour to cover that ground.
By the time Pawniard reached Julian, its condition was dire—its gaze unfocused, sustained only by sheer willpower. Yet, even then, it still tried to thrust its arm toward Julian's abdomen. Unfortunately, in its current state, the movement was painfully slow.
So slow that Julian easily caught its arm.
Then Julian kicked it in the abdomen. Under the immense force, its body flew backward once more. This time, it truly fell into unconsciousness.
"Slowking, heal it. Don't let it die."
"Slow~"
