Chapter 1035: Hell Road (1)
Chapter 1035: Hell Road (1)
"Something is coming," a Chainfiend said, his hooked arms holding a thick chain firmly. He appeared focused and ready to take action.
Around him, thousands of others also sensed the danger and were alert.
Those with some strength in them moved close to the Damned Hell Sea, while the hunters from the other cities who had earned the right to hunt in other cities remained in their own domains, nobody messing with them.
One Chainfiend, a rather ugly hell demon with one eye, stood calmly, holding a scythe. Nobody dares stand close to him. He is one of the best hunters in the City of Chains.
Though not recognized among the main hunters under the City Lord (rulers of the 14 Hell Cities), his influence is great enough to make him a powerhouse among his peers.
"It is not something," he said, "more like a somebody."
"So the challenger is finally coming out, huh?"
"It seems so." The hell demons around all started speculating.
Suddenly, the sea shook, and while many were already accustomed to the sea behaving that way, on this day, as the Damned Hell Sea shook, the sky turned dark, and suddenly someone blasted out of the sea, making a rather peculiar sound.
"Yeeeehuuuu!"
BOOM!
At once, a suffocating pressure descended on everyone, causing them to drop to their knees, some crashing face-first to the ground.
Kent appeared, and with him, a terrifying giant dragon made entirely of green flames appeared behind him, causing everyone to pale.
If one looked at the green dragon and Kent’s crimson armor, they would think he had kidnapped a flame dragon and was using it to intimidate his opponents.
However, this was merely a skill the Core gave him after it was formed.
He can now condense a flame dragon by channeling the essence of his flame core.
Now, looking down at the thousands of hell demons, a grin appeared on Kent’s face.
"It is rather unfortunate, isn’t it? Here you all are, thinking the moment this mysterious person who dares challenge the Hell Road appears, we will swarm him and kill him in the most painful way possible." The grin on his face spread.
"I mean, that is normal, for I would have done the same thing if I were in your place. However, I am not in your place, and while I should applaud you all for delivering precious blood essence to me, I have to say, I am very disappointed."
Kent looked toward the distance, his gaze piercing through the fabric of space as he locked eyes with the ruler of the city, City Lord Zorvak.
"If you want to welcome me into your domain, at least have the decency to send those with powerful blood essence."
After forming the Blood Core Gate, Kent gained the ability to sense the blood essence of his foes and tell which had the highest quality.
Looking at these pitiful hell demons, he could sense only 1,900 quality blood essence. If he wanted to form a Blood Life Seal, he would need exactly 350,000 drops of high-quality blood essence. This meant he was a long way from refining a seal.
"Yeah, well," Kent sighed, wearing an expression that conveyed his disappointment. "I will just kill this bunch and get the rest when I get to the city."
Kent turned to the hell demons who were still struggling under his pressure.
"Time to die."
[How are you going to do that?] Gaap, who was strapped to his back, asked.
"Just watch."
Kent activated 1,200 blood seals, and then, channeling his flame core, the dragon rose up into the air, and then, with a loud roar, green flames burst out of its mouth.
What followed was a purification ritual that left behind golden flames.
Kent didn’t spare even a single hell demon.
Perhaps because he had formed his Blood Core, to him, everything he sees now that is against him is blood essence.
So the hell demons were purified. And when the last of them stopped screaming, Kent waved his hand, and all the blood essence around flew and entered his forehead.
He looked toward the City of Chains, and an evil smile appeared on his face.
"Here I come." With speed that was powered by 20,000 flame veins, Kent shot toward the city, ready to turn off one pillar of light by killing the City Lord.

[The Viewers’ POV]
Unbeknownst to Kent, he had caused the entirety of the remaining 12 levels of hell to become quiet, shocked, and awe-riddling everyone’s faces.
They came to watch a Hell Road challenge.
They had waited for 4 years for him to come.
And when he finally did, everyone’s expectation was shattered. They had never seen what Kent did to the hell demons coming.
In fact, they had anticipated a battle where Kent would be forced into a corner, because, bear in mind, the hell demons he faced were the majority of the hunters from the City of Chains and some of the best in all of Nex Morbus.
However, he left them shocked.
What was even more shocking was that his cultivation base was only at the Core Formation level. They never expected somebody from a high world to challenge the Hell Road.
"I take back my words," the demon with the two voluptuous women in his arms said, "I believe we might just be witnessing the rise of a legend here."
"Does anyone know his name?"
"No. However, looking at his interest in blood essence, I think the name Blood Reaper is more suitable."
"Then, Blood Reaper it is."

[Nyx’s POV]
Just like everyone, Nyx was also expecting a huge battle right after Kent popped out from the Damned Hell Sea.
However, all she saw was a handsome, mischievous, and extremely terrifying brat who, in a strange way, was more attractive than she would love to admit.
"Well, I never saw that coming," Bilad said. "I never expected the Hell Road challenger to be a mere kid from a high world."
"Same here," Nyx couldn’t deny it.
She was taken aback when Kent appeared, and even now, as she watched him speed toward the City of Chains, she couldn’t help but wonder if any of this was actually happening.
"Killing the City Lord in the City of Chains is not going to be easy, though," Bilad said, looking at City Lord Zorvak seated on his throne, his four hooked arms resting on the throne’s armrest.
"If it were easy, I would have long challenged the Hell Road and made you a Hell King," Nyx joked, and Bilad smirked, knowing his friend could be mischievous too if she was around people she was comfortable with.
"Let’s just watch."
---
[So you have to know this. The moment you step into the Chain City, there is no turning back. You can only move forward and can only move to the next city after the City Lord is dead.]
Gaap said, and Kent nodded...
"Let’s just get this over with. I feel like something very important is waiting for me back home... something I can’t afford to miss."
[I understand.]
Dark runes started to appear on the sword on Kent’s back. With every rune, a very potent, resentful aura surrounded the sword.
[In that case, let us commit a massacre.]
After a few minutes, the City of Chains appeared in Kent’s view...

(A/N: I’ve decided to call the rulers of the 14 hell cities, City Lords, instead of Kings/Queens. The King will be the overall overlord of the entire level of hell.)
