Chapter 1288: Opening The Seal
Chapter 1288: Opening The Seal
Many years ago, when Faceless was creating the modified version of the Faceless Art, he added a complex array that prevented all bearers of the Faceless Agent Mark from suppressing him, regardless of their strength.
Later, he made it so he could easily take away the power of the Faceless Agent Mark and even waive all restrictions on anyone who has the mark.
It wasn’t because he didn’t trust his assassins; he only put that condition in there to ensure moments when any of his assassins were to become puppets under anyone’s control, they wouldn’t be able to hurt him or anyone.
The Faceless Agent Mark isn’t as simple as one might think. It actually brought out the Midnight Shadows’ hidden potential.
Initially, the Midnight Shadows weren’t a powerful assassin organisation in the universe. However, after the Faceless Agents started appearing, their power skyrocketed.
So he made sure they were protected, and that was achieved through the Faceless Agent Mark.
Today, that mark came in handy when a Faceless Agent tried to suppress him. Thousand Blade had no idea he was standing before the Faceless Assassin.
Naturally, all these factors were a test Adin had devised to see how much the Faceless Agents could accept Kent as their master. He wanted to measure their level of trust.
Kent told him the Faceless Agent Mark he gave him is the True Mark. That one is a complete dagger, something only the first 7 Faceless Agents have.
So if he were to show this mark to the immortals, they would have instantly believed Kent was the Faceless Assassin. But he didn’t do that; instead, he merely called them over and let them judge for themselves.
Now, looking at the mark on his forehead, the three immortals felt like they had been conspired against, and the one to be blamed is Adin.
However, they have a much bigger problem now, which is especially true for Thousand Blade, who dared attack his own boss.
"I didn’t recognise the Faceless Assassin and even dared to try to suppress him. Please, Lord Faceless, I will accept my punishment," Thousand Blade said, his head bowed, his neck almost hanging by a thread.
"We will accept our punishment," the other two immortals also said.
"Stand up, guys. I am not here to punish anyone, so don’t sweat it." They lifted their heads and looked at Kent, who rested his right hand on the arm of the chair and his fist supporting his chin.
"You have done nothing wrong, so sit down and let’s talk. I asked Adin to call you here today for something more important."
Kent flicked his finger, and a beam of energy flew out, merging with Thousand Blade’s forehead. His Faceless Mark that Kent wiped appeared, but this time as a complete mark (dagger).
"Thank you, Lord Faceless."
Kent just smiled and looked toward the other two Immortal Lords. Seeing his gaze, they straightened up. They both had short dark hair, but one was a Dark Elf and the other an Umbral human. "May I know your assassin names?"
The Dark Elf answered, "I am Black Arrow."
"And I am Silent Requiem."
"Well, pleasure to meet you guys. I am Kent Madson, as Adin told you. However, if you prefer, you can call me Faceless, since that was once my assassin name."
They nodded. Kent also nodded and gave them the full faceless agent mark. It is their fortune to have met him today. With the full mark now activated, their powers would take a more powerful jump in the coming years.
"I believe Adin has already briefed you on why I asked you to come today," Kent turned to Thousand Blade and asked.
"Yes, Lord Faceless. I was indeed the one who created the sealing formation."
"I see. Looks like you took your second identity seriously and became a rather good formation expert."
Since every Midnight Shadow is expected to have a second identity that would allow them to blend in, Thousand Blade became a Formation Expert just like how Liora became an Alchemist.
There are many out there, certified assassins disguised as ordinary folks, some even as scholars.
"I was just lucky the Midnight Shadows gave me the best opportunity to learn."
"Be proud of your achievement, Thousand Blade. But in any case, I need to enter the forest for a mission, and I would like it if you could temporarily lift the seal."
"Sure." There was no need to ask what he intended to do in there. Just the fact that they knew he was the Faceless Assassin was enough.
"However, Lord Faceless should know that the forest has become dangerous now. According to what I extracted from the Immortal who came back barely alive, he only came out because one of the True Immortals who went in with them knows space law.
From his memories, I saw he was pushed into a space tunnel by that True Immortal, who was captured by something, perhaps someone. He didn’t know the thing, but it was strong enough to capture a True Immortal and several others.
So be careful when you go in there."
"I will be. I already know what I am walking into, so I will be ready for anything."
There were some talks here and there, but soon, they departed for the location of the Void Forest. Kent didn’t want to waste any more time.
Some time later, Kent, Thousand Blade, and the others arrived at the location of the Void Forest. As expected, it was a large, dark hole that looked eerie, like it should.
"When it fell, it became this large hole with strange and eerie sounds. Even we, Immortal Lords, feel like entering there would be the worst decision we would make."
"Oh, believe me. If any of you had entered, not even your bones would have returned."
If indeed the Void Beasts had made a move, then even if a god entered the forest and there was indeed a Void Temple there, their death would be guaranteed.
The Void Temple adapts to the strength of Immortal Kings and above. It was even one of the reasons Kent became happy that the forest was sealed instead of sending more Immortals inside.
During the Primordial Era, all the Void Temples that were destroyed were achieved by True Immortals and below.
The moment anyone higher than that entered, the temple would adjust to match them, and as simple as that may sound, a true god with average abilities can’t last even a minute against a True God Void Beast.
Because of these restrictions, not all Void Temples were destroyed. This fast-tracked the descent of the Void Beasts.
"Lift the seal."
Thousand Blade moved forward and formed a couple of hand seals. The moment he was done, the seal appeared and flickered.
Then, suddenly, an opening appeared inside the seal.
However, before Kent could move in and enter, since the seal couldn’t remain open for long, a Roc flashed out, trying to escape.
However, Thousand Blade merely waved his hand, and it was cut in half.
"This is going to be super dangerous," Kent grinned and then flew toward the opening... "Wait for me here. I will let you know when I am done with my business so you can open the seal again."
With that, he took a nosedive into the opening and vanished into the darkness.
