Chapter 1451: A Mission
Chapter 1451: A Mission
Kent spent many seconds admiring the stunning beauty who asked him the question. To better answer her, he needed to see the kind of beast she is.
She sat upon a throne carved from darkwood, one that seemed more jade-like than normal wood. Obviously, that was a clear indication that it was not simple wood.
Long silver hair cascaded down her back like a waterfall of moonlight, each strand gleaming with beauty. Her eyes were a piercing shade of emerald green.
Her high cheekbones and flawless pale skin made her even more stunning. Of course, from what Kent knew, when Spirit Beasts finally take on their humanoid form, they can later change it as they see fit.
However, it takes years to accomplish all that. Seeing her flawless skin, he knew she had spent a great deal of time achieving such a look.
One thing her appearance also pointed out was how she viewed humans.
To be able to shape her looks like that, she must be familiar with humans or, in this case, Elves, considering she had a long elven ear.
This means she is more familiar with humans than a beast living in such a place should be.
Two slender, curved horns, smooth and obsidian-black, rose gracefully from her temples. She wore flowing robes of deep forest green embroidered with golden runes.
This appearance, coupled with the fact that Kent just couldn’t see a single opening in her defence, told him all he needed to know. Messing with her is not an option.
"First of all, it was self-defence. Second, if you ask how I got here, the answer is that the teleportation talisman I used malfunctioned, sending me here. I didn’t come on my own accord."
She showed no sign of hatred, but her gaze remained locked on him.
"You could have injured them and run off. I saw how fast you were moving and knew you had the speed advantage, so why didn’t you run, but instead fight and kill them?"
Kent smiled. "Because they attacked me, and as a dragon, I don’t take kindly to it when people attack me." His dragon horns appeared, and deep gold scales lined the sides of his neck.
This sight didn’t surprise the lady in the least. However, Kent sensed a shift in her aura, one that only happens when one feels fear.
’She is afraid of me.’
Of course, he wasn’t about to press his luck. A mere flick of her hand would be all it would take to end his pitiful existence.
"So you are telling me that because they attacked you, you had to kill them."
Kent nodded.
"So if I attack you, will you kill me?"
"That..." he didn’t know what to say.
"So I thought." She let out a chuckle and then turned her head toward the west. "You killed two of my people, dragon. This means you must pay for their lives, or else you won’t be leaving this forest alive. Luckily for you, there is a way out for you to redeem yourself."
Kent sighed and retracted his horns.
He expected as much, so the least he could do was listen to what she had to say. Who knows what kind of danger he would be walking into if he were to run off right now?
In fact, seeing her appearance, he knew that even if he were to escape the forest, there was a high chance she would follow him to the land of humans and kill him.
He just had this gut feeling.
"What do you need from me?" he asked.
She took out a scroll from her space ring, which Kent yet again never expected to see, and threw it at him. He caught it and unfurled it.
"A map."
The scroll contained a map with a red dot marking one spot. Most importantly, the map seemed to cover the entire forest, including the island he arrived on after walking through the portal.
He turned away from the map and stared at the lady before returning to the map. "Are you helping me escape the forest, or do you want me to do something for you?"
"I want the latter. The red dot on the map points to a place where a certain treasure I need can be found. I want you to retrieve it for me."
Kent narrowed his eyes and gave the lady a suspicious glare. "Surely, you have more qualified people who can help you better than I could. I mean, the goat who brought me here is strong enough to do a much better job than I am."
"That is indeed true. However, if caught, not only would he be killed, but I myself would be in danger. However, if a dragon were to be the one to steal the item, all blame will shift to the Northern King."
"Oh, so it is the classic camouflage con, huh? You want to use the face of someone else to steal what doesn’t belong to you." Kent smirked. "I wonder how strong the owner might be that a powerful Immortal Lord like you would be afraid of them."
"She is a Pseudo-Demigod. That is all you need to know."
"Oh hell no. I would rather take my chances with you. At least I know I will be dealing with an Immortal Lord."
"You have no choice, Dragon. You killed two of my people, so even if you were to successfully escape from my domain, I can locate you in the human world and kill you.
Just so you know, I have contacts on almost all seven continents, so you will never be safe from me." She paused and took a breath.
"At least with this mission, you will gain my favour, and I will even help you get to your destination much faster."
Kent shook his head.
The mere fact that he was being sent to go after something that belonged to a Pseudo-Demigod made him wonder just what kind of bad luck he brought with him to Planet Brymrr.
If he got caught, there is a good chance he would die before he realised how it happened. However, if he were to succeed, becoming friends with this lady would also go a long way.
’Or I can just backstab her and make friends with this Pseudo-Demigod.’ That thought was washed from his mind the next second.
Realising how he got here, he knew not to trust his luck by thinking he could play smart with someone whom he knew nothing about. At least, this lady was giving him a way out.
"What do you want me to steal?"
A few hours later, he left the wooden mansion and flew west. It turned out the mission was much more dangerous than he expected. He would have to steal the Golden Bloodline Spirit Fruit.
According to the falcon lady, it had been growing for the past 500,000 years. If taken, there is a great chance her bloodline will upgrade to the next stage.
However, it is being guarded by the Queen of the West, the Blizzard Qilin Queen. She is one of the four overlords of the unknown forest, and a nemesis she had been trying to backstab for a while now.
If Kent manages to get her the fruit, then perhaps she can finally rise to the stage where she would have the means to kill her and be done with their million-year-old rivalry.
So he started flying toward his mission destination, where, if he failed, there would be no coming back.
