Chapter 1722: Soul Temple Agents

Chapter 1722: Soul Temple Agents

While the Sand Centipede truly snuck up on the Night Riders, they had long sensed the Soul Temple agents, so they were ever vigilant even during the battle with the Sand Centipede.

They sensed them a few minutes after killing the Shadowtail Scorpion, and when they left for the Worm Desert, the agents started following them.

So, even long before they faced off against the Sand Centipede, Uncle Drew and his team had already made plans on how to deal with them.

Thankfully, while the appearance of the Sand Centipede was unexpected, it also gave them a chance to eliminate the threat, handing over their heads before heading deeper into the Worm Desert.

So, the moment the chaos reached its peak and the entire battlefield descended into turmoil, Uncle Drew slipped away and positioned himself where he would have the highest chance of killing some of them.

Eleven Soul Temple agents had come after them: three Demigods and eight Immortal Lords.

However, while they were much weaker than the Demigod-level Sand Centipede, they were humans, and humans were crafty. So Uncle Drew timed it perfectly, killing two with a single attack.

The moment the remaining nine were forced into the open, Vargus was upon them, his body radiating a power that none of the Soul Temple agents had expected.

"Eat my hammer!"

His voice boomed, and like a mountain crashing from the heavens, a colossal hammer, sizzling with intense heat, appeared above the Soul Temple agents.

"Scatter!" one of the Demigods among them commanded. Then he punched forward, meeting the hammer head-on.

However, he underestimated the power behind the attack.

BOOM!

The devastating explosion rocked the ground, and a deep crater formed as the Demigod crashed into it. His hand shattered, and the grin on his face disappeared, replaced by a pale expression.

"Now die!"

Vargus didn’t even blink as he descended on the Demigod once again. This time, the Soul Temple agent knew he could not overpower Vargus, so he unleashed a technique.

"Tendrils of Damnation!"

Thousands of tendrils exploded from the ground, each stabbing toward Vargus, who sensed the overwhelming soul power hidden within every single one.

Even more shocking, all the tendrils converged on him without a single one missing its target.

"Blade of Darkness."

Before they could reach Vargus, however, Nara appeared and unleashed a deadly sword technique that severed every tendril. This gave Vargus the opening to hammer the poor bastard once more.

But killing a human Demigod was not that simple, especially one proficient in the art of the soul.

The man clapped his hands together, and thousands of souls appeared around him, each howling like wolves. However, upon closer inspection, one would realize they were not howling but screaming.

"How insidious," Vargus muttered as he teleported away.

He knew landing that attack on the Demigod would indeed damage the bastard. However, the resulting backlash from the souls would also severely injure him.

The odds made it clear: he could not afford to get hurt when they hadn’t even reached their destination yet. Besides, Kent had already warned them to be cautious while they were out here.

So he retreated, and Lene took his place.

She didn’t possess brute strength, nor did she specialize in wide-area attacks. So the moment she appeared, her spear trembled.

She unleashed a beam of energy from her spear, forcing the Soul Temple Demigod to abandon his insidious attack and erect a shield.

BOOOM!

He was sent flying backward. Seizing the opportunity, Lene closed the distance and engaged him in close combat. Uncle Drew had already taken on one of the Demigods, while Vargus was battling another.

Meanwhile, Nara, Eryndor, and Saden had taken on the six remaining Immortal Lords. This time, despite being realms below the six Immortal Lords, a clear difference could be seen because they were finally using their true strength.

Nara moved with a speed far beyond what an Immortal King was supposed to possess.

Meanwhile, with his four Hell Demons already keeping the Sand Centipede occupied, Eryndor fully committed himself to his secondary class, the Combat Mage.

He seamlessly combined powerful spells with deadly close-range attacks, wielding both his Ice and Flame elements with devastating precision.

As for Saden, she was like a shadow.

She appeared only long enough to fire an arrow, then vanished just before her opponent could retaliate.

A True Immortal holding off two Immortal Lords was not something that usually happened. However, as things stood, she was doing an exceptional job, and that alone was more than enough to demonstrate the caliber of warrior she was.

Uncle Drew was also displaying incredible mastery.

His swords moved like flowing air, never once missing their mark. Unfortunately for his opponent, who was also a swordsman, he had encountered someone whose understanding of combat existed on an entirely different level of madness.

Uncle Drew didn’t make mistakes, and every strike was aimed to kill. So with every swing of his swords, the poor Demigod found himself being pushed closer and closer to death’s door.

And he wasn’t the only one being pushed toward certain death. Despite their extensive battle experience, it was now clear to them that there were superior teams. Yet despite it all, none of the Soul Temple agents panicked.

Instead, their eyes flashed with madness. To them, this was just one of the many deadly battles they had fought in this Dead World. They possessed an affinity for death, and so they did not fear it.

After all, everyone who cultivated the power of death, or merely possessed an affinity for it, became stronger the closer they came to death’s door. So, although they were being pushed back, they weren’t afraid of death, at least not yet.

It was unfortunate that two of their own had died before the battle had even truly begun. However, now that they were here, the Night Riders, who in their eyes viewed them as nothing more than bugs, would soon witness the true power of the Soul Temple.

Then again, they had no idea they were fighting beings who had once come close to destroying the Soul Temple.

Just as the battle reached a critical moment, the six Immortal Lords suddenly abandoned their opponents and retreated toward the three Demigods.

"What are they planning?" Nara shouted, her voice carrying a hint of unease.

The moment those words left her mouth, the nine remaining Soul Temple agents formed a strange formation, their soul powers instantly resonating with one another.

An oppressive pressure spread across the battlefield.

Suddenly, the souls surrounding the Demigod who had been fighting Lene let out ear-piercing screams as they shot toward the formation, merging with the other agents.

The auras of the nine rapidly climbed, causing the air around them to become saturated with dense soul energy.

"What are they doing?" Lene muttered, narrowing her eyes.

"They’re merging their soul power," Uncle Drew replied calmly, his gaze fixed on the formation. "Don’t let them complete it."

The Night Riders moved almost simultaneously.

Eryndor was the first to attack.

"Hellfire Glacier!"

A sea of icy flames surged forward, freezing and burning everything in its path.

At the same time, Saden unleashed a barrage of deadly arrows while Nara launched an attack that manifested thousands of swords.

Lene also manifested a colossal spear and hurled it toward the formation, while a gigantic hammer followed immediately after. The final attack came from Uncle Drew.

Trails of flames erupted from his swords as his slashes crashed into the formation.

BOOOM!
