Chapter 1760: The Ambush
Chapter 1760: The Ambush
Lady Khronisia stared long and intently at Kent before asking, "Is the Nine Underworld Flame Blacksmith really alive?"
She wasn’t asking because she wished to become his disciple. It was because she, like every blacksmith in existence, had heard about his legendary feats, and so many took him as their idol, herself included.
Of course, if she got to become the disciple of such a person who hadn’t been seen since the end of the Flame Era, she would be the happiest person in existence.
Kent smiled and answered, "I can tell you for a fact that the Nine Underworld Flame Blacksmith is still alive. So put in some effort, and who knows? He might just pop up and take you as his disciple. Just so you know, he has never taken a disciple before, but you might just become the first."
Lady Khronisia smiled and nodded. "While this would never happen, rest assured, I will do my best not to disappoint you. And thank you very much for accepting my request."
"No need to thank me. It has always been my dream to witness a true master at work, so I see this as an opportunity rather than an obligation."
His handsome smile calmed Lady Khronisia’s racing heartbeat. For the last five days, she had been waiting intently, wondering if Kent would really come to see her.
After all, he had just offended some very powerful people, so going into hiding was the best thing he could do in such a situation.
However, now that he was here, he had even made her a deal that far surpassed what she had asked for, making her very happy.
"How about this? I will travel with you to the Blacksmith Association so we can iron out some details while on the way. You can also show me around the association."
Lady Khronisia had no issues with this arrangement. It would give her the chance to learn more about Kent and, if possible, form a connection with him.
Unbeknownst to her, Kent had his own motives for doing this.
When he recovered Fjorge’s memories, he sensed a powerful yet familiar gaze land on him from far away. It was only for a moment, but he felt it and sensed the unruliness within those eyes.
He, of course, realized who it was, but despite wishing for his hammer to return to his side, the unruly bastard ignored him.
Kent knew he was playing hard to get, so he wanted to use Lady Khronisia’s craftsmanship to tell his hammer that, with or without him, he still is the Nine Underworld Flame Blacksmith.
He had lived with his hammer since he was seven years old, so he knew it best and knew it would come running regardless of how insignificant the craftsmanship was.
"First, let’s eat."
So they started to eat their fill, or rather, Kent ate his fill. He and food were inseparable after all, especially now that he had some aspect of the Barbarian bloodline flowing through him.
A while later, they departed on Lady Khronisia’s private ship. As someone from the Blacksmith Association, she wasn’t about to stand in line and wait for her turn to board public transport, which moved much more slowly and was very high-risk.
Her own ship was under her control, so she could travel at any pace she wanted.
Kent had already received a quest stating that Lady Khronisia would be attacked on her way back to the Blacksmith Association and that he had to save her.
He had no idea who would attack her or why, but the rewards that came with the quest were just too good to pass up. So, using the excuse of wanting to see the Blacksmith Association, he started traveling with her.
And as expected, ten hours into the journey, a powerful flame attack came from the void, heading straight for the ship—or at least it came close.
Kent, who had been on high alert, activated the Chaos Scale Shield around the ship the moment he sensed the attack.
The beam struck the shield, and a devastating explosion rocked the space channel, sending the ship hurtling into space.
Immediately, a team of fifteen Demigods surrounded the ship, their auras sealing the space around it.
Lady Khronisia, who had never anticipated an attack, grew tense as she saw these people. However, she immediately recognized them, causing her face to turn pale.
"Soul Temple agents," Kent muttered, his eyes narrowing at the fifteen Demigods, each reeking of either an extreme soul aura or a blood aura.
The Soul Temple is known for its dark arts. They use methods that others had frowned upon to gain power. To them, the lives of both the guilty and the innocent are merely nourishment for their growth.
So Kent hates them, and so do most people in the universe.
"This is the end of the line for you, Lady Khronisia. Hand over the Grand Mage Staff Blueprint and surrender to the Soul Temple, and your life will be spared. Resist, and we will kill you and use your body to nourish our strength."
One of them shouted, causing Lady Khronisia to tremble...
"Relax, I will take care of them," Kent said, tapping her on the shoulder. Then he moved forward, shielding her...
"It is quite heartbreaking to see a bunch of humans turn into animals." Kent shook his head. "Very sad, really."
"Who are you?" one of them asked, pointing his weapon at Kent, his aura overflowing...
"Me? I am just an ordinary boy who likes to get into trouble when he should just run." Kent laughed, then his eyes narrowed. "Also, I promised a dear friend of mine years ago that I would bring the Soul Temple to its knees, so you can say I am the bane of your existence."
"Hahahahahahah..."
They burst out laughing uncontrollably. However, to their shock, Kent also joined them in the laughter, causing all fifteen of them to narrow their eyes.
The next second, their eyes widened, horror appearing on their faces.
"This..."
All of them grew pale when, suddenly, they found themselves surrounded by a sea of swords. Kent decided to go all out from the start, so he unleashed the full power of the Sword Realm, and just as he had envisioned, every last one of them became stunned.
Then they all despaired, and before long, the horror on their faces became unmistakable.
"So long, losers."
Kent snapped his fingers, and the sea moved, consuming them whole. Their screams were swallowed, and their bodies, down to the last chunk of bone, were ground into meat paste and pure energy.
In less than five seconds, all fifteen Demigods died, and their souls appeared inside the Soul Universe, where Kenna, Bello, and Calix shared them among themselves and started to absorb them.
The ding sounded in his mind, signaling to Kent that he had completed the quest successfully.
Kent turned back to Lady Khronisia, who looked both pale and stunned.
"It is over now, so we can leave."
She nodded, and a few minutes later, they were back inside the space channel, traveling several miles per second.
Meanwhile, far away on a dark planet, a man growled and opened his eyes, sweat forming on his forehead...
He looked very angry, and for a short moment, a faint killing intent flashed across his face, "So you’ve returned huh, Genesis."
