Chapter 1792: White Haired Fisherman
Chapter 1792: White Haired Fisherman
Kent was taken aback by how suddenly everything happened.
One moment, the representative from the Void Vein Chaos Tribe entered the portal; the next, he was flying back out as though he had been struck by a truck. The abruptness and shock of it all were simply mind-blowing.
The young man managed to stabilize himself before letting out a sigh.
"Well, that was uneventful," Kent said as he walked toward the young man, who wore a calm yet disappointed expression. He watched as the portal the young man had entered closed.
Kent stepped into his line of sight and took a deep breath.
"I suppose that means you failed?" he asked.
The young man, who went by the name Frafal, nodded. "I expected to last at least a minute, but I guess I wasn’t strong enough."
Kent raised a brow. "You make it sound like lasting a minute is a huge achievement."
In response, Jyoti Lata answered, "Actually, lasting even ten seconds is a great achievement. While we aspire to clear the trial and be free, we also know that whoever lasts the longest inside the trial will one day become a terrifying warrior of their respective tribe.
The reward the temple guardian spoke about is something innate. So, while he lasted just three seconds, his gains are akin to those of someone who has taken a Dao Transformation Pill."
Kent knitted his brows and sucked in a deep breath. "I know I’ll be shocked by the answer, but what is the highest recorded time?"
"Five minutes, and I hold that record," Fiannarel replied, a smile playing on her face.
Kent shook his head and nodded. "That is an eye-opener. I never expected there to be such a shocking side to the trial, but well... what the hell."
The tribe leaders sighed.
That was all they could do in this situation. Kent wasn’t familiar with the trial yet, so they wanted him to experience it.
They knew that even if he failed, 50,000 years later, he could try again. He would have three chances to test his luck, so they wanted to see what he could do.
"Whatever, now let me see what you saw."
Kent waved his hand, and two figures appeared before him. Lady Kenzie instantly filled the hall with flowers and butterflies, while off to the side, Death, whom Kent had chosen to call Hades, sat in a recliner with a hat covering his face.
While the appearance of the two made everyone suck in a cold breath, Kent grinned and smacked Hades on the leg.
"Stand up, sleepyhead. Time to do your thing."
Hades took offense as he slowly removed the hat from his face and glared at Kent.
"You would do well to behave around me, Dragon. My majestic self had been in chains for as long as I can remember... which isn’t a long time, but you get the idea."
Kent smirked. "You live with me now, so get to work, or I’ll cut off your supply of death energy and let you starve."
Hades didn’t want that to happen, so he jumped to his feet, walked toward Frafal, and pressed a finger against his forehead.
For a moment, nothing happened.
However, soon Frafal turned pale, and his body began to wither. Luckily, the Spirit of Life was there. Lady Kenzie extended her hand, and life essence poured into his body, healing him.
A few minutes later, Hades removed his finger from Frafal’s forehead and turned to Kent, pressing it against his forehead.
Kent felt a memory slip into his mind. He quickly accessed it, and that was when he saw what had happened.
---
Frafal stepped through the portal, and then he appeared on a small platform in front of a pond, or perhaps a river. The place was quiet and beautiful. Ahead of him, thirteen moons shone in the sky.
He admired the moon for only a second before his gaze shifted downward and landed on a figure seated on the platform, holding a fishing rod with its hook lowered into the water.
The person had his back turned to him. However, he could tell the person was a man, with silky white hair flowing down his back.
The man then spoke.
"So it has been 50,000 years already, huh?"
Frafal nodded and replied, "Yes, Senior. It has been 50,000 years, so I am here for my trial."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, Senior."
Frafal heard a hum come from the man. Then, the next second, he spoke.
"That is good. Unfortunately for you, the person I have been waiting for isn’t you. So go back and grow stronger, for he will need you."
The fishing rod rose from the water and landed on Frafal’s shoulder, sending him flying out of the portal.
---
Kent took a deep breath and smiled.
"Well then, it appears the trial isn’t as simple as we all thought."
"Little brother, were you able to extract anything?" Fiannarel asked.
"I did. However, let the others finish first just to be sure."
Thus, the other representatives from the remaining tribes began entering the trial one by one. However, just like Frafal, the moment they entered, they were thrown back out.
As they checked their memories, Kent saw the same scene play out for each of them. By the time the last person came out, Kent knew what awaited him.
But before he entered, he first revealed what he had seen in their memories.
"So, from what each of them experienced, it appears there is a mysterious white-haired fisherman waiting for someone inside the trial. Now, I am going to take a wild guess and say that he is the Chaos Ascension King.
That said, even if he turns out to be someone else, I will find out when I enter. There is a chance he may be waiting for someone worthy to pass a technique on to, and I might just be that person."
His last sentence was a bit arrogant, but considering everyone else had failed, he was their only hope now.
Fiannarel hugged Kent and said, "Be careful in there, little brother. If what you just said is true, then maybe you will fail. But knowing you, I am sure you will find a way to succeed, so good luck."
"I will give it my best, big sister," Kent said, and Fiannarel nodded.
"See you all later."
Kent smiled and walked toward the portal. Just before walking through it, he turned back to look at Fiannarel.
However, to everyone’s stunned gaze, a fishing hook shot out from the portal. The line wrapped itself around Kent’s horn, and before he knew it, he was dragged into the portal.
Many gasped, but there was nothing they could do except wait.
A second passed, and before long, five seconds went by, but Kent didn’t come flying back out as the others had.
A minute soon passed, but nothing happened. After five minutes, smiles started to appear on everyone’s faces. It was clear Kent wasn’t coming out anytime soon, which meant he seemed to be holding on just fine inside the trial.
Meanwhile, inside the trial, Kent appeared right where Frafal and the others had been when they entered. His gaze then landed on the mysterious fisherman, and for a moment, he wondered who the man was.
Then the fisherman spoke, and Kent’s eyes widened.
"Long time no see, Chaos Dragon."
The fisherman turned slightly to look at him.
"P-Paragon..."
