Chapter 1816: The Dark War (18)
[Planet Doorma - Immortal World]
Planet Doorma is one of the largest planets in the Eastern Region of the Immortal Realm. It is also one of the few immortal planets that holds more mortals than even many mortal worlds.
Due to its massive population, every continent on the planet is protected by highly trained immortals.
The Lasmid Continent is the second-largest continent on Planet Doorma and is home to both Humans and Elves. It is also one of the most peaceful and most visited continents.
The number of mortals on this continent alone numbered in the billions. If all fourteen continents were combined, the population of the planet would exceed sixteen billion, with 60% of the people being mortals.
Nobody knew that when they went to sleep and woke up, the first thing to greet them would be a massive portal spewing out Dark Fiends.
However, that was the sight that greeted the natives of the Lasmid Continent.
The attack was sudden and devastating. It came with a terrifying tide of Dark Fiends, both humanoid and beastly, with the majority of them being Peak Immortal Lords and Demigods.
At first, the defenders were able to hold back the tide, allowing many civilians to be evacuated. However, it took just fifteen minutes for the tide to turn against them as more Demigods emerged from the Dark Portal.
In no time, the battlefield descended into carnage, with hundreds dying every second.
"Just who have we offended?" a warrior whose left arm had been bitten off by a Dark Fiend asked, his grim expression reflecting the desperate state of the battle.
This morning, he told his family he was going to work and would return before dinner. However, looking at his missing arm and exhausted expression, one could tell he would not be able to keep his promise.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes just as a Demigod humanoid Dark Fiend charged at him with a large jagged spear.
He knew death had come for him, so he prepared to welcome it.
However, after two seconds had passed and nothing had happened, he opened his eyes to the sight of a man with flowing purple hair holding the spear aimed at his heart.
Kent clenched the spear, and it shattered. Then, using the fragments of the broken weapon, he forged a new spear and commanded it with his mind, sending it hurtling toward the Demigod.
"Are you alright?" Kent asked, turning to face the one-armed warrior, who seemed too stunned to speak. "Of course, you are not alright. You lost an arm, after all."
He waved his hand, and a green mist flew toward the warrior and merged into his body. The very next second, a new arm grew where the severed one had been.
"Can you still fight?" Kent asked.
The young man looked at his newly regenerated arm before nodding, still unable to recover from the shock.
"That is the spirit. And don’t worry, reinforcements have arrived."
As soon as Kent finished speaking, a portal opened, and the warriors of the Blood Vein Tribe, one of the strongest tribes inside the tower, marched out under the leadership of their chief, Malthar.
Over the years, the people Kent had brought into the Tower City had trained tirelessly for the day he would need their help. Every time he fought a large-scale battle, they wished he would summon them.
However, the threats they had faced before were never great or daunting enough to require such overwhelming reinforcements.
Today, however, things were different.
Today, he needed every bit of strength he could gather to save 250 planets.
Kent had suspected something like this from the very beginning. However, even he had not expected the Dark Empress to prepare so extensively over the years.
Rigging 250 planets with enough Dark Fiends and patiently waiting for the day she could unleash them sounded like one of the most evil acts anyone could ever commit.
Then again, she wasn’t a person, so Kent never expected her to play by the rules.
Still, severing her connection to her Dark Fiends while retaining the authority to command them told Kent that if Paragon hadn’t given him this opportunity today, perhaps the next time they met, the Dark Empress would have become even more powerful.
The original plan the Ruthless Bandit had cooked up during the Dark Era, when the Dark Fiends had grown increasingly chaotic, was to locate their creator and kill them, which would naturally have stopped the Dark Fiends.
However, as things stood now, that plan hadn’t worked. He had killed her, but the dark fiends are still here.
If not for Kent arriving at the least opportune moment for the Dark Empress, things would have become far more chaotic than they already were.
But even so, many people were dying on every planet where the Dark Portals had opened.
He had deployed his legion and wives to rescue them, just as he had come here. But he was aware that many would have already died before they arrived.
As for the battle on the main planet, he had left everything to Grand Shaman Vorgun, Veera, Shade King Nykali, Dia, the Blood Warriors, and Indie, who had brought with her an army of Underworld warriors.
She had brought some of her Grim Reapers, along with warriors from every level of the Underworld.
The Underworld Kings and Queens hadn’t come since she could not afford to leave the Underworld undefended, but Nyx and Miryssa were with her.
They alone were enough to handle the remaining threat of the Dark Fiends. Grand Shaman Vorgun had already created over 2,000 Soul Fiends, each a terrifying powerhouse that thousands of Dark Fiends could not even scratch, regardless of how formidable they were.
The longer the battle raged on, the closer they all came to breaking. But Kent trusted and believed they would be able to hold on. He knew that with Indie’s reinforcements and Grand Shaman Vorgun’s ever-growing army of Soul Fiends, they would prevail.
He just had to finish things here as quickly as possible so he could check on the other planets where he had deployed his wives and legion.
With Kent’s arrival and the Blood Vein Tribe joining the fight, the battle quickly began to shift. Kent alone was a force to be reckoned with, and his appearance had completely changed the momentum of the battlefield.
Thankfully, just a couple of minutes after he arrived, reinforcements from the other continents finally reached the battlefield in large numbers, turning the battle into one that could be won with far fewer casualties.
One thing Kent was also grateful for was his Shadow Fiends. His Faceless Shadow Realm granted him the ability to unlock Shadow Fiends through the kills made by himself, his legion, and his wives.
This Dark War had resulted in the deaths of thousands of Dark Fiends, allowing him to unlock thousands of Shadow Fiends, including several Celestial-grade Shadow Fiends and an even more dangerous variant.
He had overlooked them during the battle on the main planet. However, when the need to save the other planets arose, Tower reminded him of their existence.
So now, across this battlefield and the others where he had deployed his wives, thousands of Shadow Fiends were fighting to save the planets while also protecting his wives.
His legion was essentially undead. As long as he remained alive, they could never truly die. Because of that, he wasn’t overly worried about them, especially the Eternal Wrath Legion.
The battle was steadily moving in his favor, and after an hour, he could tell that even if he left now, the situation here would not worsen.
So he departed and began visiting the other planets.
