Chapter 1931 Revenge Is a Bitch (16)
The battle raged on, with thousands dying on the enemy side, mainly because Vexthra and Zaila had implemented the best strategies to counter whatever odds they were struck with at the moment.
They had been in many battles and knew that in large and dangerous battles of this magnitude, morale was of the highest priority.
Killing morale on the enemy side, most of the time, comes in two phases.
The first phase was killing their high-level warriors as quickly and brutally as possible. The moment the high-level warriors were taken care of, the first thing that would happen was the destruction of their formation.
Their battlefield formation would break, and once that happened, death would follow. Disorganization in battles like this was very bad, and allowing it to happen would surely bring about great disaster.
Second, they would become afraid of their opponents, which, if managed well, would naturally spread like a plague.
The second phase was using low-level warriors to handle top-level warriors.
This strategy actually came from Selene. She argued that since all of them were once hardened warriors, they had more experience than most, and that using that experience to their advantage would go a long way.
An example was herself, who had once wielded both Lunar Essence and Divine Qi before she became a goddess. Now that she had those memories back, she could harness said energies again.
Aside from that, her sword contained true Celestial Qi, and so despite being a demigod, she could easily slaughter gods and supremes and even, to some extent, celestials if she used her sword well.
While it would take a heavy toll on her body, she knew that as long as Elaine or Yuyin, the goddess of light, was breathing, she would be fine.
So they implemented both plans, and with Selene's idea put into effect, Vexthra made sure to deploy five of her best, whose only job was to kill as fast and as brutally as possible.
The first of them was the Vampire Demoness Sylara, whose claws were now dyed in blood.
At the moment, she stood still in the air, surrounded by 10 Supremes, each furious and ready to kill her.
Sylara looked at all ten of them and smiled... "You know, a very long time ago, I stood like this, surrounded by 10,000 Supremes and 1,000 Celestials. At the back of their minds, they thought, with this many of us, killing her will be easy.
But they were mistaken. You see, when the Bone Lich Undead Emperor created me, he instilled in me a single conviction: to kill for him.
Back then, he had just discovered that his parents had been betrayed and locked away in the Abyssal Chaos.
So he poured all his killing intent into me and gave me everything I needed to become his killing machine. Fast forward, I am back now, and though just a demigod, I know one thing."
She could see their faces as she said, "All ten of you are just blood essence waiting to be harvested."
"Kill her!" They charged forward, but Sylara didn't flinch.
Instead, a blood rune lit up on her forehead, and at once, her body surged with speed. Her claws gleamed with a dangerous light, and then she turned into a blur.
When she appeared again, she held ten hearts in her hands, with ten bodies frozen behind her. "Then again, I never should have wasted my time telling you a lighter version of my story. The real story would have sent down heavenly tribulation"
She dropped the hearts, and the ten Supremes, whose eyes had widened, dropped from the air and slammed into the ground.
Ten streams of blood essence came from them and entered Sylara's forehead, causing her already surging Blood Qi to become even denser and more heart-shattering.
She turned her head and saw five Celestials, each a Saint of the Grim Arcane Legends, and smiled. "Prepare to die." She moved again, and soon, her carnage could be felt on the battlefield.
Somewhere else, the second member Vexthra had selected was killing like she had nothing else meaningful to do with her life.
The sound of glass shattering spread across the battlefield as Enzi wielded her glass sword, her glassy eyes filled with murderous intent.
Nobody could really tell when it happened, just that one day, out of the blue, Enzi awakened her true domain, the Mirror of Shattered Realms.
This domain was one wielded by her past self during the Chaos Era.
It was said that inside her domain, countless realms, some in this universe, others outside, could be accessed. Of course, she had no control over it, but she could, to some extent, harness it to do her bidding.
Most of the time, she only tapped into it to trap her enemies. But later on, she discovered that if she could harness the power of her domain to isolate her targets, then theoretically, she could harness the laws of the realms she had inside her Mirror Domain.
It was a theory at first, but now it was a real thing.
Though she could still only harness 10 realms at a time, that was more than enough since, inside all ten realms, she invoked only one law, the Law of Null and Void.
This meant that inside these realms, even Primordials would become ordinary people. And what better way to kill Celestials and Pseudo-Primordials than by making them mortal and then killing them like bugs?
Of course, Enzi would also be mortal. But she was Enzi, someone whose understanding of the sword surpassed even Selene's.
Watching as one realm shattered after another, one could feel some sense of fear creep into one's body. Enzi was burning her soul energy to keep the shattered realms activated for as long as she could.
Already, she had killed over 20 Celestials and thousands of Gods and Supremes. But that also meant she was running low on energy.
Luckily, the third person Vexthra selected was not simple either.
Elaine, the one who held power over life and death.
Elaine was also known in the past as the Contractor, someone who killed by making it appear to be an accident. Legends had it that when she roamed the face of this universe, even legendary warriors like the Mother of Assassins (Vari) feared her.
Whenever someone contracted her to kill, the target, regardless of how powerful they were, would die, and there was no preventing that.
Today, Vexthra told her to abandon her morality and embrace the dark side she had hidden from everyone.
