Chapter 1933 Revenge Is a Bitch (18)
Knowing how many enemies they would face, Vexthra devised the perfect plan.
First, the five monarchs will be taken completely off the battlefield.
To accomplish that, she needed a treasure she had been eyeing for a while now. The Battlefield Cubes, the five cylindrical items that now hover in the air. One costs 200 million Tower Points, and she bought five, showing just how serious she is about keeping the Primordials (five monarchs) away.
Since fighting on the outside as a Primordial is forbidden, using the cubes was the only way.
Then again, they could have used the void as their battlefield. But there are downsides to that, too, with the most serious one being the probability that one of the Primordials might just break away from their opponent and attack the low-level warriors on her team.
She could not allow that to happen, so she bought them, and now, watching them remain suspended in the air, she could only smile.
There are two ways the battles happening in them would end. It is either the monarchs kill their opponents, or they die instead.
Second, Vexthra's teammates would have to release them on their own. These two are the only ways for them to come out.
And the latter was Vexthra's second plan.
Killing Primordials is very hard and almost impossible, so she wanted them to hold them for 45 minutes. That is long enough time for what Vexthra wanted to achieve.
Since her first plan was to destroy the enemy's formation, she calculated that it would take them approximately 45 minutes to re-form and move in a cordinated formation.
By then, she and her teammates would have killed hundreds of thousands.
So the Primordials are merely removed from the battlefield, with no guarantee they can kill them...
...or so Vexthra thought.
Inside one of the Battlefield Cubes, Neveross, the Abyssal Soul Leviathan, stood in the air, both hands tucked behind his back. Hovering beside him was a dark cauldron howling with soul energy and resentment.
Panting and gasping for breath 200 meters away was Monarch Solran. Looking at his flawless skin and nice hair, one wouldn't understand why he was panting now. After all, he looked fine, with no visible wounds on his body.
However, the same cannot be said for what happened deep inside his soul or for what was happening currently.
The pain of his soul being torn apart was so agonizing that all he could do was groan in pain while he looked toward Neveross like he was some kind of monster.
The latter held a smirk on his face as he watched the damage dealt to his opponent.
15 minutes ago, Monarch Solran was so pissed that his ten brides had been taken from him by Fiannarel. That anger and resentment had fueled his resolve, and so he wished to tear Neveross into pieces. In fact, he was so angry he nearly burst a vein.
However, when the battle started, things changed.
He expected Neveross to fight fair by drawing his weapon.
Well, he did draw his weapon, just not one meant for close combat as Monarch Solran wanted.
Instead, just when the battle started, Neveross unleashed torrents of souls, each powerful enough to put down a Pseudo-Primordial in a matter of minutes.
Monarch Solran initially held an arrogant look. However, everything changed when the first soul attacked.
Monarch Solran's eyes widened as his attack passed through the soul that Neveross had released, and before he could try another, it had already entered his soul.
The danger of it all was immediate.
More souls entered, and before he could mount a soul defense, or more like a soul offense, considering his normal soul defense did nothing to stop Neveross, the damage was already done.
His soul was injured in more than one place, and 15 minutes later, he was barely conscious.
Neveross smiled and said:
"You know, after the Chaos Era, I spent a lot of time obsessing over the most efficient way to kill someone stronger than me. Make no mistake, I was already killing beings far stronger than me before the Chaos Era came to an end.
But adding more knowledge and power is always welcome. And so I did the only logical thing: I experimented, and after thousands of trials, I discovered that no matter how powerful you are, your soul is always your weakest link.
I myself, who specialise in soul arts, am much weaker when it comes to my soul. It is just natural, and I decided to make it my strongest offense.
I needed more soul warriors to attack the soul, and considering I have extensive knowledge of soul arts, it was easy, so easy that I soon made a breakthrough.
However, I knew a day would come when beings far more dreadful than even you would come. And so, in every era, one battle after another came, and I hid behind the scenes, collecting powerful souls from many realms that dared to attack this universe.
It has been many millennia already, and I can tell you this: killing you would be the easiest thing I will ever do, and guess what? While your soul is severely wounded, I will mend you back together and use you to kill more."
Neveross grinned, liking the look on Monarch Solran's face.
"J-Just who are you?" Monarch Solran asked, his voice barely audible. The pain inside his soul was so agonizing that he couldn't even contain his thoughts well.
"Once again, the name is Neveross, the Abyssal Soul Leviathan. Many years ago, I was ranked the 5th strongest among the Thirteen Divine Wonders, a team of able beasts tamed and raised by the Divine Beast Tamer."
The cauldron trembled, and three more souls came out.
"Time to wrap things up. If, after joining this team, we still fail to wipe these losers out, the master will be very disappointed in me when he finds out.
But even if he didn't take it to heart, I am sure that thirteen-headed bastard, Vorax, will tease me very well when he finds out."
The three souls retrieved giant scythes and lunged forward, soon vanishing into Monarch Solran's soul.
Vexthra had no idea her calculations were very wrong, so wrong, in fact, that she would be stunned when the outcomes revealed themselves.
At this rate, she would have to think of a new way to approach things. That said, the battle had yet to enter its dire moments.
But then again, she also failed to understand one thing...
...In the world of assassins, the Midnight Shadows are the best for a reason.
Somewhere far away, a chilling massacre was nearing its conclusion
