Chapter 928: Kent, the Poorest in The Past
Chapter 928: Kent, the Poorest in The Past
[Nine days later, after entering the Grand Pill Tablet Cave]
It has been nine days since Kent entered the Grand Pill Tablet Cave. At that moment, he was seated in a lotus posture, his eyes closed.
The aura of power and enlightenment radiated from him.
Nana stood just a few steps away, gazing at his face as if it were the only sight she had ever known.
"This is Master’s third enlightenment after transmitting the three techniques to him. If what he said was indeed true, Master has already attained seven enlightenments on the path of Alchemy." Nana smiled, her expression bright and innocent like that of a child.
"That makes it two more than when he was a Pill Grandmaster back then. Of course, it is Master—he was destined to break his own records one day."
The longer she looked at him, the clearer she saw the figure of the Master she had followed for hundreds of thousands of years.
Ten hours later, just before the ten-day limit was nearing, Kent opened his eyes, and an unmistakable light of understanding and clarity shone within them.
He rose to his feet and walked toward the tablet on the wall. After studying it for a few moments, he asked, "Nana, what is the final outcome after bringing all ten parts together?"
Nana smiled and puffed out her chest. A flicker of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes. "If all ten parts are brought together, I will become the Cauldron of Apotheosis."
Though it wasn’t necessary, Nana made the moment appear like a grand revelation, making Kent shake his head at her playful childishness.
"Master must understand that I am not an ordinary cauldron. Although you will discover it one day, know this: when I am made whole again, I will aid Master in creating the pill that every alchemist has dreamed of."
"What pill is that?" Kent asked.
But Nana only stuck out her tongue, clearly showing she had no intention of telling him.
Kent shook his head once more, realising that this was only the past. If he were ever to reunite with Nana in the future, he would certainly pry the truth out of her.
"I suppose I have to leave now." Kent turned from the tablet and walked toward the massive stone door.
He paused at the threshold and looked back at Nana. "I will bring the lady you asked me to save."
"I know you will, Master. But do not underestimate the Pill King. He is not weak in any aspect," Nana replied with a faint smile. "That is all I can say, Master."
Kent nodded. With a single thought, the stone door rumbled open, and he stepped outside.
The moment he emerged, he came face-to-face with Pill Monarch Nefeli.
"How did it go?" Pill Monarch Nefeli asked.
"I did not waste my question, if that is what worries you," Kent replied. "That said, I am ready to head to the Fifth Rank Pill World and accept that lady’s challenge."
Pill Monarch Nefeli exhaled softly, then gestured for Kent to follow. Soon, they returned to her chamber, where she took out a badge and handed it to him.
"Aerithyne is a Fifth Rank Pill World. Although most of its inhabitants are alchemists, hidden monsters lie in wait, eager to devour the unprepared.
This badge will grant you access to that world, but it will not protect you from harm. Be cautious when you arrive. The moment you win or lose, return here immediately."
Kent smiled, looked at Pill Monarch Nefeli, and said, "If you are worried about me, then don’t be. I have been through countless life-and-death situations, so I know how to handle myself.
That said, the protection you arranged for me won’t be necessary, for I planned to go to a certain place to train, and I am not sure they will be able to follow me there."
"Then hand the badge to someone else in case you win. The moment the access token to enter the Pill Ascension Competition leaves your hands, no one will bother coming after you."
Kent rose and walked toward the door. "I will do just that, Big Sister. Until then, do not trouble yourself to run to my aid if you hear that I have gotten myself into trouble."
With a faint smile, Kent left and made his way toward the city, where thousands of towering buildings stretched before his eyes.
This was the first time he had ventured outside since arriving in Pyris.
The Pyris Pagoda stood proudly at the very heart of the city. Yet, because of its grandeur and sacred significance, no other buildings had been constructed within a one-kilometre radius of it.
The city has five regions. East, West, North, South, and Central. Pyris paagoda stood at the centre of the city, situated in the Central Region. However, the Central region spans several thousand miles.
Just Pyris city alone is bigger than three Earths combined.
It stood tall, with nothing within its 1km vicinity.
Beyond that boundary, however, the city spread wide—filled with countless markets, inns, restaurants, and bustling streets alive with cultivators and alchemists.
At the very moment, Kent was strolling leisurely through the street, trying to get a feel of the city. Perhaps, if something caught his interest, he would purchase it.
After all, he was in the past, in Pyris City, the sacred land where the finest alchemists and the rarest alchemical treasures could be found.
Of course, he could depend on the tower in the future, but at this moment in the past, its abilities were limited. Other than storing items within its inner space, he could not retrieve them.
Fortunately, his sword was hidden within his Soul Universe, so he could summon it at will. As for a cauldron, he did have one, but it was sealed inside his space ring, which was not on his finger at present.
This meant he would first need to purchase a new space ring before he could even think of buying another cauldron.
Naturally, he would also need to acquire a stock of ingredients, for no true alchemist should wander about without carrying even the most basic of herbs.
Kent activated the Soul Map, narrowing its radius to just three kilometres, scanning every presence within that range.
"Just two kilometres into the city, and I have already spotted three Heavenly Ascension stage cultivators." A smile tugged at Kent’s lips, but then he paused in the middle of the road and scratched his head.
"Shit," he muttered.
"Hey, handsome, watch where you’re going!"
"Look at his bony arms. I’m sure he just remembered he hasn’t eaten in years—that’s why he stopped," another scoffed.
His sudden halt drew irritated shouts from passersby. One big-bellied man seemed more interested in mocking Kent’s thin frame than moving along.
Kent only smiled faintly and stepped aside from the crowded road.
"All my wealth is sealed in the tower world, and the little I saved in my space ring is now beyond my reach." Kent scratched his head, a wry expression crossing his face.
When he first came to the past, he was able to retrieve items from his tower. But now, after Gaia adjusted the time difference, something that synced the flow of time in the Pill world to match the tower, some of its functions had ceased to work.
"Thankfully, I kept the badge Big Sister gave me in my pocket. But now... I need money." Kent’s gaze swept across the busy streets, filled with merchants bargaining and customers rushing about their day.
For a fleeting moment, the idea of robbing someone crossed his mind. Yet, as a man who had once been unimaginably wealthy, he brushed the thought aside with disdain. Instead, he fell silent, pondering.
After a few moments of thought, Kent narrowed his options to three.
"It is either I sell write and sell martial techniques, concoct and sell pills, or sell one of the flying swords stored in my Soul Universe."
The possibilities made him smile again, but the expression quickly faded. "If I sell a sword, I’ll have to remove my imprint from it and place an inheritance restriction instead. The problem is, I don’t know how to do that."
And just like that, the richest in the Medium worlds has just become the poorest 370,000 years in the past.
