Chapter 1465 Evolved Seed
Chapter 1465 Evolved Seed
Kaelira's eyes found his.
Quinlan's breath stalled.
A faint outline of deep, demonic red traced the edges of her irises, so subtle it could have been mistaken for a trick of the lab's flickering light. But it wasn't. The color pulsed once, and something in Quinlan's core responded before his mind caught up.
A pull.
Not physical, not mana-based, but something deeper that tugged at the space behind his sternum as if an invisible thread had been drawn taut between them. His Abyssal Genesis markings warmed beneath his clothes, reacting to
whatever was happening to her.
"What's going on?" he asked, frowning.
Kaelira looked down at her own hands. She turned them over slowly, flexing
her fingers, watching the way her muscles responded. Then she looked back up at him with her ears angled forward and her lips slightly parted.
"It says I'm... buffed."
She swallowed.
"From consuming your seed. Or rather... its extract."
"What?!" Quinlan was shocked. He instantly navigated to his systemic interface and found the description of the Blessed Seed ability.
Not much was changed... In line with the Soul Records' lousy information keeping, it didn't mention anything like the tether. However, what was changed was the deletion of the line that said artificial insemination did not work.
Aurora stepped in, unable to contain herself any longer.
"This is it, Quin! This is what I wanted to show you!" She grabbed one of her notebooks and flipped it open, shoving it toward him while speaking at a pace that made it clear she'd been rehearsing this explanation in her head for days. "Your Blessed Seed changed when your physique evolved. The old properties are still there, the experience multiplier, the preservation effect, all confirmed. But a new layer emerged on top of them."
She tapped the page.
"When I distilled the active compounds down to their concentrated form and had Kaelira ingest it, the extract produced a temporary physical enhancement. Not stat inflation, not a power boost in the traditional sense. More like... optimization. Her body is performing closer to its theoretical maximum. Whatever inefficiencies existed in how her muscles fire, how her nerves relay signals, how her mana circulates through her channels... the extract tightened all of it."
Her eyes gleamed.
"And that red in her eyes? That's your Abyssal Genesis signature. Your essence is marking her temporarily. It's faint, and it'll fade, but while it's active, she's connected to you."
"Connected how?" Quinlan asked.
"You tell me, Quin... I need you to confirm my theories."
"I feel a pull toward her from my core."
Aurora nodded excitedly. It looked like one of her theories was just confirmed. "I believe the extract creates a temporary resonance between the consumer and you. A tether, if you will. It won't let you read her thoughts or control her body, nothing invasive. But you'll be able to sense her general state, her location relative to you, and whether she's injured or under duress. And based on what I'm observing..." she adjusted her glasses, "I think it may work both ways."
Kaelira's ears twitched. She closed her eyes for a moment, took a few steps, and turned her body in different directions.
Then, she opened her eyes.
"Aurora might be right... We need more tests to confirm, but I think I can feel where you are. Not precisely, but... directionally. Like a compass that always knows where north is."
Aurora could barely stand still.
"Do you understand what this means? Your Blessed Seed was already extraordinary. But this new property has applications beyond what the old one offered. The extract can prepare an ally for battle, sharpen their combat readiness, and establish a tactical link with you, all without requiring..." she gestured vaguely, cheeks going pink, "... the original delivery method."
"Though," she added quickly, scribbling something in her notebook, "I strongly suspect the direct method would produce a more potent and longer-lasting version of the same effects. The pill is a concentrate, but it's still a derivative. The source material, delivered as intended by the physique, would almost certainly carry a stronger resonance and a longer duration."
Kaelira's ears burned red at that.
So did Aurora's cheeks as she added, blinking sensually at Quinlan, "There's only one way to find out, you know...?"
"Didn't you... Test it out with Ayame?" Kaelira asked Quinlan. "She... Extracted your seed, right?"
Quinlan smiled, unable to believe this. "That cheeky little gremlin only sucked me off a few times and claimed she was too tired for the real deal and that it was a waste of opportunity. She only had a bit of time to study under Hanae, while we could lie together for as long as we wanted after we returned... Or so she claimed."
He shook his head, amused. "But now it's clear. She was in on the mission. She wanted to keep it a surprise. If my seed entered her womb, I'd know something
was up."
"Y-you're not mincing your words much..." Kaelira muttered bashfully.
"Should I?"
"... No. After all, I, too, am your..." The elf couldn't finish. She turned away, ears practically glowing.
Quinlan stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
His hands settled gently on her stomach, fingers resting against the firm, defined muscle beneath her thin smithing wrap. The contact was warm and unhurried, and he felt her entire body go rigid before a tremor ran through her
frame that had nothing to do with cold.
"Don't worry about anything" he said, voice low and close to her ear. "Take
your time. There's no need to rush."
He paused.
"Also, I apologize for making you uncomfortable. I'll speak with more
consideration around you."
Kaelira's cheeks were burning so fiercely that she was certain the heat could be felt from across the room. Her hands hovered at her sides, not pushing him away, not pulling him closer, just frozen in the space between wanting and not knowing what to do about it.
"It's... really okay," she managed, voice smaller than she liked. "I don't want you to hide your real self in front of me. Just... be yourself. Please."
Quinlan smiled against her hair. "Okay."
He didn't move away.
"Can you tell me about the effect?" he asked.
