Chapter 3624: Wen Yan

Chapter 3624: Wen Yan

Hong Yu had been jumping around and meddling so much that Young Master Ronghua was beginning to feel extremely irritated. Naturally, he wasn’t going to give her any face.

One of the ordinance embodiments stood up and said to Young Master Ronghua, “This woman sitting across from you is incredibly vindictive. Even if you pay her now, she will only think you are easy to bully. This is not the first time she has used her position as city lord to do something like this.

“She frequently expels people from the City of Water. Even if you pay her this time, she will just use this same tactic to threaten you again and again.”

Ning Shu looked at the man. There was a mark on the skin between his thumb and index finger—it was likely an ordinance imprint. At the moment, he was looking at her with a venomous expression, as if she had personally slighted his entire family.

Ning Shu’s expression remained indifferent as she looked at him. “Who are you? What does this have to do with you? Don’t be so eager to jump out and act as a lackey for someone else.”

If Hong Yu hadn’t been the one to find these people, Ning Shu would twist her own head off and kick it around like a ball.

“I am only telling the truth. Are you not acting at your own whim simply because you are the embodiment of the water ordinance?” the man said with a sneer.

Ning Shu did not fit in well with the circle of ordinance embodiments. In fact, she seemed to be a figure of general dislike. Of course, many of them were motivated by envy and jealousy, while even more were simply close friends with Hong Yu.

It also couldn’t be ruled out that some of them were infatuated with Hong Yu.

Ning Shu gave a short laugh. “What does it have to do with you? I have never even met you, nor do we have any grievances. Why are you so determined to step on me? To flatter someone else, do you really have to trample over others?”

“I am only here to uphold justice,” the man claimed.

“If you’re really that bored, go help an old lady cross the street.”

His only goal in coming forward now was to make the situation even more chaotic.

More and more people were entering the restaurant, and the main hall was becoming quite crowded.

Young Master Ronghua’s face grew darker by the second. He glared at Hong Yu and said, “You are even more annoying than your master.”

Hong Yu smiled faintly. “Young Master Ronghua, I am only trying to help you save face. You are a powerful expert, yet you are compromising with a junior—and a junior who appeared out of nowhere, at that. If word of this gets out, what will be left of your reputation?”

“What does it have to do with you?” Young Master Ronghua’s face was dark and ominous.

Ning Shu rested her chin in her hand. The current situation had devolved into a three-way brawl. It was truly getting interesting.

Hong Yu seemed determined to join the fray. Her goal, of course, was the ordinance imprint on Ning Shu’s forehead.

The number of onlookers grew, and even Ah Wan and the city lord of the City of Time—the qipao man—had arrived.

The situation was spiraling. Hong Yu seemed to be intentionally insulting Young Master Ronghua’s dignity. If he grew angry enough to kill Ning Shu on the spot, that would be even better.

Hong Yu had a master backing her, so Young Master Ronghua wouldn’t strike her on a whim. He was wary of the person standing behind her.

Since the incident at the auction house began, it had originally been a conflict between Ning Shu and the auction house. Now that Young Master Ronghua had appeared, Hong Yu had seized the opportunity, and Ronghua was effectively being used.

Regardless of the outcome, if Ning Shu died, Hong Yu could take the ordinance imprint. If Young Master Ronghua compromised, then Ning Shu would have offended him. In short, Hong Yu couldn’t lose.

Ning Shu watched the noisy scene with a relaxed air, curious to see how it would end.

Young Master Ronghua was not someone who could be so easily manipulated. He reached out and snatched Hong Yu by the throat. “What kind of thing are you? Since when do I need you to tell me what to do? You aren’t your master, so what gives you the right to act so arrogant in front of me?”

Hong Yu continued to smile despite the hand on her throat. “Young Master Ronghua, you had better not do that. If I die, the person who will be happiest is likely that individual over there.”

Hong Yu’s gaze settled on Ning Shu, who was watching the show from the sidelines. “My goal is the ordinance imprint. If I obtain the water ordinance imprint, I will naturally treat the auction house with great favor.”

“Once I have the ordinance imprint, removing the barrier around the auction house will be as simple as a flick of my wrist. She is only doing this because she wants to blackmail you and collect more benefit,” Hong Yu said.

Hong Yu stated her objective plainly. “You won’t have to pay any extra faith energy to resolve the auction house’s problem, and I will get what I want. It is a win-win situation.”

Ah Wan gave a mocking laugh. “Hong Yu, have you really cast aside all your shame? You must be going mad with desire for an ordinance imprint.”

With Ronghua’s hand still around her neck, Hong Yu struggled to turn her head toward Ah Wan. She frowned and said irritably, “As if you are so much better.”

In front of Ning Shu, Hong Yu was arrogant and condescending. However, when faced with Ah Wan—someone she had always tried to surpass—Hong Yu felt a mix of humiliated rage and hatred.

Ah Wan let out a short laugh. Her expression was full of disdain. “Even if you did obtain the water ordinance imprint, what of it? Possessing the power of an ordinance does not necessarily make one strong.”

Ning Shu narrowed her eyes as she looked at Ah Wan. If that was the case, Ah Wan must have already constructed her own world. She wondered if Hong Yu had done the same.

Flushed with embarrassment at Ah Wan’s mockery, Hong Yu bit her lip and glared at her. “I hate that high-and-mighty look of yours, as if you are so much better than everyone else.”

Ning Shu’s mouth twitched. Had Hong Yu not acted just as ‘high and mighty’ when dealing with her? If someone didn’t want to waste their breath arguing with you, you claimed they looked down on you. Did you really expect them to lower themselves just to bicker?

The city lord of the City of Time snapped his folding fan open and spoke to the brooding Young Master Ronghua. “Ronghua, it is better to just talk things out. This wasn’t a major issue to begin with. Don’t make it more complicated, and don’t let yourself be used by others.”

Ning Shu immediately gave the qipao man a thumbs-up.

Nice one, buddy. I’ll definitely help you find a girl next time.

The man glanced at Ning Shu, then looked back at Ronghua. “Hong Yu is one of Wen Yan’s people, after all.”

Young Master Ronghua gave a sinister smile and tightened his grip on Hong Yu’s neck. She gasped in discomfort. “Do you think I am afraid of Wen Yan?”

“All this fighting and killing is truly unpleasant.”

Before the person could even be seen, a hearty male voice echoed through the hall. Immediately afterward, a man appeared in front of Ronghua and Hong Yu.

The man grabbed Young Master Ronghua’s wrist, forcing him to release his grip on Hong Yu.

Young Master Ronghua’s pupils constricted. “Wen Yan.”

“A beauty as lovely as a flower should be cherished, not treated so roughly. It is heartbreaking to watch,” Wen Yan said with a smile.

Young Master Ronghua gave a dark hum of annoyance and released Hong Yu’s throat. Hong Yu massaged her neck, looking pained. The area where he had strangled her was marked by black stains that seemed to be corroding her soul.

Young Master Ronghua shook off Wen Yan’s hand. Wen Yan immediately grabbed Hong Yu’s hand and gave it a stroke. “As I thought, it is much more comfortable to touch a girl’s hand. Touching a man is just disgusting.”

Young Master Ronghua’s already dark expression grew even more ominous.

However, as Wen Yan held Hong Yu’s hand, the black marks on her neck began to vanish at a visible rate. Wen Yan was clearly healing her.
