Chapter 3625: Come with Me

Chapter 3625: Come with Me

Wen Yan appeared to be a man in his early twenties. He was dressed in casual clothes, tall and lean, with features as delicate as a painting and thin lips that gave him a rakish, romantic air.

As he constantly stroked his own chin, his eyes fell upon the icy Ah Wan. “Oh, Ah Wan, you came too.”

Ah Wan merely gave him a curt hum and a slight nod by way of a greeting.

Wen Yan scanned the room until his gaze finally landed on Ning Shu. He walked up to her, studied her closely, and rubbed his chin. “A bit on the short side, average face… but your aura is decent enough. Come with me.”

Ning Shu: …

Hong Yu seemed unfazed by this behavior. “She can follow you, but the water ordinance imprint must be given to me.”

Wen Yan was famous for his supposed ‘tender protective streak’ toward women, especially those with great power. He collected them like stamps. He rarely raised a hand against a woman.

While he appeared to cherish them, in reality, he never viewed women as his equals. To him, they were like flowers in a garden, and he wanted his collection to be as diverse as possible. He wanted the frost-hardy plum blossom, the noble orchid, the graceful peony, the romantic rose…

In short, the more he collected, the better.

Ning Shu felt only one thing toward him—he was a total stud. He wasn’t just a man driven by lust who couldn’t walk past a woman. He was a ‘lust demon’ who appreciated women as if they were prize blossoms.

Ning Shu simply smiled. “I don’t date.”

Wen Yan arched an eyebrow. “Who said anything about dating?

“If you follow this master, I can guarantee your safety to the best of my ability. I appreciate beauties the same way I enjoy flowers. I don’t ‘date’ girls, nor would I ever dream of being uncouth with a beauty.”

Wen Yan’s features and lips suggested a man of shallow affections.

Ning Shu gave him a flat look.

Good grief! This man was…

It seemed this was Hong Yu’s backer, but could someone like this really be relied upon?

Ning Shu said calmly, “Oh. In that case, forget it. I only date. I don’t play the role of a flower.”

“See, Wen Yan? She isn’t interested in being a blossom in your backyard. It’s wrong to force her,” Hong Yu interjected.

Hong Yu looked somewhat irritated.

Wen Yan let out a sigh and said, “Covet not a gold-threaded robe, cherish only your young days.”1A line from a famous Tang Dynasty poem, The Gold-Threaded Robe. It’s functionally identical to the English sentiment ‘Gather ye rosebuds while ye may’ or carpe diem.

Young Master Ronghua looked at the rakish Wen Yan with a dark expression and spoke bluntly. “What exactly did you come here for?”

“It’s so lively here. I just came to see what the fuss was about. Are you the only one allowed to come? Am I forbidden?” Wen Yan shrugged. Dressed in his casual attire, he looked like a bright, handsome man with just a hint of a wicked streak. He was quite easy on the eyes—certainly more pleasant to look at than the dark and brooding Young Master Ronghua.

Young Master Ronghua let out a dry laugh that sounded like a snake’s hiss. Wen Yan laughed right back. The two of them stood there ‘hehe-ing’ at each other.

The restaurant hall was packed with people. If a fight broke out now, it would be quite the spectacle. Shu Bai, the restaurant owner, felt like her life was flashing before her eyes.

Ning Shu turned to the sinister Young Master Ronghua. “Why did you choose to settle this down here? This is the kind of thing the two of us should have resolved behind closed doors. Why turn us into a laughingstock for all these people?”

Young Master Ronghua looked at Hong Yu. She gave a thin smile. “Because I booked all the private rooms upstairs.”

“Oh, wow. What are you trying to do, flex your wealth?” Ning Shu’s mouth twitched. She looked back at Young Master Ronghua. “Buddy, I don’t even want your money. I’ll open the barrier right now just to spite her.”

Young Master Ronghua’s mouth moved slightly, but he didn’t speak.

Of course, Ning Shu was only talking.

Wen Yan said, “You certainly have character. Go on, then—open the barrier. Let us witness the grand style of the city lord of the City of Water.”

Ning Shu tilted her head. “You think I’ll just do it because you said so? Besides, I’m powerless right now. I can’t open it.”

He arched an eyebrow. “So, you really haven’t fully mastered the ordinance yet? That makes it even easier for me to take the ordinance from you.”

“Don’t forget, this is the City of Water,” Ning Shu said, her expression unchanging. He claimed he wouldn’t ‘cruelly destroy the flower,’ yet he was still an enemy who would strike with lethal force. So much for his ‘tender protective streak.’

Wen Yan rolled up the sleeves of his casual shirt. In the center of his right palm, there was a black hole about the size of a walnut.

What was that? Was it the power of the ordinance of darkness?

“Are you taking my ordinance imprint just to give it to Hong Yu?” Ning Shu asked him. An ordinance imprint was a precious thing. She was surprised Wen Yan was willing to part with it.

“Naturally. The water ordinance imprint is what Hong Yu wants most. Who else would I give it to? But if you join this master, I can choose not to take it. I treat women very well—provided they are my ‘flowers,’ of course.” Wen Yan smiled, and his hand—the one with the black hole—reached toward Ning Shu’s face.

Ning Shu took a step back and flicked her finger at him. A barrier instantly formed over Wen Yan, but he broke through it almost immediately. His long, slender fingers reached for her, the black hole in his palm making his hand look like a divine, terrifying miracle.

Ning Shu attempted to expel him from the city. Wen Yan’s body swayed as if he were losing control, but he quickly stabilized his form. “Expulsion has its limits. Your power cannot match mine, and your soul is far too weak.”

Ning Shu tapped her chin. “Are you sure you want to fight here?”

“Wen Yan, fighting is forbidden within the city. If you attract the adjudicator, everyone here will be in trouble,” Young Master Ronghua said ominously.

“It doesn’t matter. I can finish this before he arrives.” Wen Yan flexed his wrist.

High above the restaurant, Tai Shu—dressed in black—looked down at the scene below. He could see clearly through the roof tiles, watching the events inside the restaurant in total silence.

Ning Shu smiled faintly. “Coming to my territory to steal my things… that isn’t very nice.”

Wen Yan didn’t answer. He lunged for Ning Shu’s face. She tilted her head repeatedly to dodge his hand. Whenever he got close, she felt waves of dark power seeping into her soul. There was a powerful suction coming from his palm, as if her very essence was being drawn into it.

It seemed as if Wen Yan had a great world within his body.

Since they were all in soul form without physical bodies, her use of the water ordinance was restricted. However, this was still the City of Water, and Ning Shu was holding her own against him.

Hong Yu watched with her lips pressed tight and her hands clasped nervously. She likely felt the ordinance imprint was within reach.

Ah Wan frowned and prepared to intervene, but the qipao man stopped her. “There is no point in going in there. You’ll only make the situation even more chaotic.”

Ah Wan said coldly, “I don’t have much of a relationship with the embodiment of the water ordinance, but I’m loath to see a woman like Hong Yu get her hands on that ordinance imprint.”

Ah Wan leapt forward and joined the fray against Wen Yan.

“Ah Wan, you treacherous woman! You’re only doing this because you’re afraid of me getting the ordinance imprint!” Hong Yu shouted as she also joined the fight.
