Chapter 872: Roderick’s Inheritance
Chapter 872: Roderick’s Inheritance
Soon they appeared before a wall, a smooth stone surface that looked absolutely ordinary at first glance, but radiated faint magical signatures.
"Y- You can go ahead, if you break the wall the whole inheritance will explode." The headmaster, finally finding a way to survive quickly spoke, his voice gaining confidence now that he had information they needed. His mind was already calculating how to use this leverage.
"And how do we open it then?" Shitless asked, his feet resting over the headmaster’s head in a casual but threatening manner. The pressure was enough to remind the man exactly who held the power here.
"O- Only I can open it so you better b- behave, without me, you can do nothing." The headmaster wanted to threaten them more, but was afraid. His bravado was thin, easily pierced by the weight of his feet pressing down.
He hated all these people so much, they came to ruin his perfect life here, his comfortable existence funded by Roderick’s legacy.
After a moment he made his mind, deciding on a course of action, after making them beg to open the door, he would then use the traps inside to kill them all. It was the only way to regain control.
But maybe he can let a woman or two live...
A faint grin appeared on his face upon thinking this, he will take his revenge. The fantasy kept him calm, giving him false hope.
"..." Teresa looked at the door which looked like a normal cave wall, then back at the headmaster who looked back with arrogance, his confidence growing by the second.
"I can open it." She said simply, her voice devoid of emotion.
Vritra smiled, proud of his wife, in such matters she was the brain of their family, a peerless talent at strategy and lateral thinking, probably even higher than Roderick himself in her abilities.
Then under their gaze, she waved her hand and the headmaster’s screams filled the cave, echoing off the stone walls.
An eye floated out from his skull, a piece of bone from his finger, ten centimetres of his skin and one litre of blood. The extraction was precise and surgical, calculated perfectly.
’Er... did I corrupt her too much? She used to be so kind.’ Vritra scratched his cheek as he watched her begin without even a change of expression. The method was brutal, efficient, and completely unlike the Teresa he had first met.
The headmaster was left screaming as within moments the door actually opened, his blood and sacrifice unlocking what greed and position could not.
"I- Impossible!!" the pain disappeared for a moment as he shouted in bafflement, his mind struggling to comprehend what had just occurred.
"Let’s go." Teresa said, smiling sweetly at her husband, taking his head she led them inside as if she hadn’t just extracted parts of a man’s body.
Headmaster tried to activate the traps that he had studied and memorized before but Teresa had completely stolen the controls, his desperate attempts yielding nothing but failure.
Finally, he began to despair, realizing that his grand plans had crumbled to dust.
’So this is how I die, I didn’t even do anything wrong...’ he sobbed internally, just enjoying his position shouldn’t be a crime, right? His self-deception was almost admirable in its commitment.
Just small crimes like killing some people, abducting some women but nothing too big. Nothing that should warrant this kind of punishment, surely.
"Husband, the inheritance is inside this chamber." Teresa pointed towards a chamber made of white tiles, perfectly pristine and glowing with faint magical runes.
Shitless threw the headmaster inside without ceremony, and instantly thousands of glyphs fell over him, bombarding his body from all directions simultaneously.
As expected, Roderick had prepared, he knew the headmaster wouldn’t come there twice. Such contingencies were typical of his thorough planning.
But he probably hadn’t expected such powerful demi gods to appear on this planet so soon, to arrive at his carefully laid plans before the proper time.
Vritra stepped inside carefully, and was instantly bombarded with thousands of glyphs that descended upon him like a swarm of locusts.
Yet they all paused in space and time as Yennefer waved a finger towards them, freezing them mid-descent with casual grace.
Vritra stopped before a mirror, it was over seven feet tall and didn’t seem out of ordinary at first glance, yet this was the only thing present here. Everything else was just glyphs and magical constructs, but this mirror stood alone.
"Are you sure there is nothing else?" Vritra asked, turning back to Teresa, his instincts telling him something was amiss.
"Yes husband, I have already taken over this inheritance grou-" but suddenly her speech was cut off and eyes widened in surprise and alarm.
Noticing something amiss, Vritra instantly turned to look at the mirror and saw a face of gold appear, materializing from within its surface.
It released bright light, impossibly bright, the gaze bored into his eyes as Vritra suddenly felt as if his mind was struck with a hammer. The impact was immediate and devastating.
The world went dark, consciousness slipping away, he found himself in the soul form, appearing in front of the face made of gold that now seemed impossibly large and detailed.
"Roderick?" Vritra mumbled in surprised, recognizing the features, it was all too sudden. The transition had happened in mere moments.
But he got no time as the face opened its mouth and out drifted golden souls, all being a part of a single soul entity. They swirled around him like a vortex of power.
’Is it trying to take over my body?’ Vritra frowned, assessing the threat level carefully.
By his intervention, Roderick’s plan had certainly been messed up a little, but this soul seemed to be making things correct, adapting to the new circumstances.
Originally, this inheritance wasn’t supposed to be discovered now, it should only had been discovered when the fated one reached level 2 demi god. The timing was crucial to the plan.
By that time, the whole planet would be taken over by RMS, and this event would have kickstarted his plans perfectly.
Roderick’s plan were foolproof, designed with meticulous care, but this planet had become an anomaly, the leveling up becoming too absurd and too fast.
The soul face left behind possessed certain intelligence and had long sensed something was wrong. The accelerated timeline had triggered its failsafes.
Feeling that Vritra was the strongest, it targeted him, and if his body is overtaken, the plan will work perfect- no even better than before, adapted to the new reality.
The countless golden souls struck Vritra’s soul body, slowly trying to corrupt him, to merge with him and take control.
Vritra on the other hand was completely calm, unfazed by the assault, he observed the place around him and was impressed by the craftsmanship.
’Roderick really planned this well, such a good guy, I will thank him when we meet for leaving such a good gift.’ The irony wasn’t lost on him that he was being attacked by a plan meant to help him.
He smiled and then his soul body transformed into a giant vortex, rotating with tremendous speed, and then [Suck! Suck! Suck!] was activated, consuming everything in its path.
