Volume 5 Chapter 32   it’s all over

“Wow, you look pretty rough. Are you okay?”

After taking care of the minimum necessary treatment, I leaned against the wall and waited for a while until Sieg returned.

Though his voice carries a tone of concern, there doesn’t seem to be any panic, so he probably managed to defeat the enemy.

“Yeah… I’m somehow still alive. I informed them of our situation and called for help, so they should be coming soon.”

Currently, I’m in a state where my left hand and leg are missing. I thought I could heal myself with magic later, so I forced myself to do it, but it was quite… well, really tough.

Even though the painkillers should still be working, looking at my own hand and leg makes me feel the pain, and it’s actually hurting even though the medicine should be effective.

“Thank you for your hard work.”

“Same to you. Was everything all right?”

“Yeah, I guess so. It wasn’t meaningful against a tank.”

“A tank, huh… If I had gone, I would have died.”

I wondered why they would have a tank prepared in a place like this underground, but there probably must be an entrance for its delivery outside. As for the rest… ah, I see. They must have planned to use the gate if they could open it.

Well, anyway, if they managed to defeat it, then that’s good enough.

“How was it on your end?”

“I don’t know. It’s fine if I could go without hesitation, but…”

“I see… Thank you for your efforts. And, thanks.”

“No need for thanks.”

“Yeah…”

With just those words exchanged, Sieg closed his eyes and fell into silence.

“So, what about the rest of the situation?”

After a while, Sieg opened his eyes and turned towards me, so I asked to confirm the situation.

“After joining up with the other units deeper inside, this place seems to have been the toughest. Some areas are still ongoing, but it looks like we can manage somehow.”

“I see. Well, that’s good to hear.”

I’ll leave the rest to him. Would it be okay to take a short nap?

…I should be fine. I’m reaching my limit anyway.

I hope everything will be over by the time I wake up.

“Hey, why did our supposed fun trip turn into monster hunting like that?”

“And Igami-san, you seem to have some really serious injuries?”

Currently, I’m lying on a hospital bed. Well, it’s only natural after sustaining such severe injuries. In fact, it’s a miracle that I can sit up and have a conversation at all.

But even so, Miyano and Asada, who are in front of me, keep poking at my legs and arms with displeased expressions.

“How would I know? I want to know that myself.”

But even so, it’s still better than before.

After all, when they first saw me in a state with missing limbs, they complained and even cried.

Compared to that, being a little angry is not so bad.

“Yeah, well, you know, it’s like God’s will or something.”

“If it’s a God causing such unfair things, I’d rather decline.”

I completely agree with that sentiment, but please tell that directly to God. There’s nothing I can do about it.

“But hey, you know what? It seems like they’ll invite us to this country again, so we can just enjoy ourselves next time, right?”

While Miyano and Asada were together, Abe, who had been quiet in the background, said that and tried to change the topic, but what she said was true.

During this study trip, various things happened, making it impossible for the students to truly enjoy their travels.

So, probably because of my involvement, all the students who came here this time were given another chance to visit this country. Moreover, they have arranged accommodations in top-notch places, and the travel expenses are all covered.

“But, you know, when will the next trip be?”

“Hmm… Spring break might be too soon, and what about a graduation trip?”

“About a year from now?”

Well, that’s probably about right. It’s November now, so there’s spring break, summer vacation, and technically winter break. They could come around that time too, but winter and spring breaks might feel too soon after this incident, and they will be third-year students next year, so they’ll have plenty to do during summer vacation.

Considering that being third-year students might be a reason, it’s likely that a graduation trip would be appropriate.

Of course, it doesn’t really matter when they come, but if it’s too soon, the other side might still be busy with the aftermath of this incident, and their handling might be rushed, so I wouldn’t recommend it.

“Ugh, a year seems so far away… It feels like there’s a lot of time.”

“Well, it can’t be helped. Normal students don’t go on foreign trips so many times in a year, so be satisfied that you’ll be able to travel again next year.”

While there might be some rich kids who travel every time they have a long vacation, that’s not something ordinary people do.

For me, this is only the second time I’ve come to a foreign country in over thirty years of living.

“So, hey, will you come with us again when that time comes?”

…Hmm? I really don’t want to come to another foreign country again.

Well, it’s not about going to a foreign country per se, but it’s this country that I dislike. I mean, I’ll definitely be targeted, and who knows what might happen again.

However, it seems like my displeased expression didn’t deter Miyano, as she opened her mouth with a smile, trying to block any possible escape.

“You’ll definitely come, right? After all, you were invited too, and besides, you even mentioned it yourself. Isn’t that right?”

It seems like she won’t accept any objections to me not coming.

Since arguing would be pointless anyway, I reluctantly gave up, let out a sigh, and shook my head lightly before answering.

“Well, it depends on the situation at that time.”

“That’s a promise, okay?”

“We’ll come together again, alright.”

I made some sort of a firm promise with the insistent Miyano and Asada, and it looks like I’ll end up coming to this country with them again.

…Sigh. I really hope nothing happens this time. I mean it, seriously.
