Chapter 518: Grim Student Examination (2)
Chapter 518: Grim Student Examination (2)
Almond looked at his surroundings.
With his Domain Power reaching 400,000 plus a 40,000 boost from a 10% stat boost granted from the Justice of Outlaws title, he could freely use his skills at no cost within a 440-meter radius.
His sensing range could observe everything within a three-kilometer radius thanks to a passive skill he created by utilizing aspects of his Astral Auralith exotic element and True Concepts.
He couldn’t sense anyone.
’So all of us are considerable distance away from one another?’
The forest was dimly lit up by its exotic plantation, with some flowers glowing in dark red light, some exuding mystic purple glows, some pale yellow, and so on.
Almond floated mid-air and began moving forward at the speed of 40 miles an hour.
’There’s no time limit, so either the participants cross the forest eventually or give up midway.’
Almond’s eyes glinted. He was happy to have challenges.
There were many powerhouses with Grim Potential here. Surely, they were going to give him a real clash.
It wasn’t long before Almond sensed someone on his radar.
It looked like a devilish humanoid monster with a pair of wings and a demonic appearance. It had ghastly flame wisps hovering above its horns and patterns on its body pulsing like breathing.
’Player or monster?’ Almond’s eyes glinted.
The target seemed to have discovered him as Almond saw the monster looking straight in his direction.
Crackle! Boom!
In a moment, a flickering trail of lightning shot at him at a breakneck speed.
Almond’s eyes were calm.
Right as the strange black-blue lightning tendril came close to ten meters from him, it scattered like something tore it into countless pieces.
’How strange...’
Almond could feel that what he attacked wasn’t actually lightning; it felt different when his move destroyed it, but his perception and visual information still labeled it as lightning.
The Grimverse was entirely warping how everyone perceived things in this forest.
Almond vanished from his spot, teleporting as he appeared a hundred meters away from the opponent.
Now, both of them were in each other’s Domain.
Instantly, a torrent of powers exploded outward from both of them.
With their skills costing nothing within their domains, the one who proved combat superiority would be the victor.
Almond’s twin blades shimmered faintly, the void-black edges humming with an almost inaudible resonance. His opponent flared with ominous power, wings spread wide as flames twisted around its horns. Both domains clashed like colliding storms, bending the air and shattering branches from the trees far below.
The first exchange was blinding.
A jagged spear of warped lightning roared at Almond, and his Spectre Blade cut it apart mid-flight, but the aftershock still burned his left shoulder. He felt the sting of alien energy searing past his guard, leaving faint smoke curling from his skin.
Almond was startled. It was like some kind of power entirely ignored his spatial defense.
His eyes lit up.
’As expected of someone with Grim Potential. They must also have very powerful Grim Trees with overpowered branch effects.’
The demon didn’t relent—it warped space with each flicker, slashing claws dripping with a corrosive flame that tried to eat through everything it touched.
The warping of perception also didn’t help in analyzing each other, so the battles indeed tested one’s comprehensive combat ability.
Almond’s body blurred into displacement. In an instant, he swapped places with a tree far behind, appearing just as his twin swords rained down a dozen arcs of void-etched slashes. The monster staggered, defense shredded in half by Spectre Blade’s passive ability, but it didn’t collapse. Instead, its torso twisted unnaturally, and a counterbeam of lightning carved straight through Almond’s sword strike.
The explosion sent him tumbling back. His right forearm throbbed—the backlash from his Ten Into One strike, forcibly shattered mid-flow.
Almond felt resistance biting into his techniques, the same as when he and Lily sparred.
Due to having a qualitative difference, the stronger opponent could indeed sometimes destroy his moves, but that was purely by overpowering them through a higher quantity of energy that boosted their effects way more.
But this clash was similar to the sparring he usually has with Lily and Admiral Rudra, who could tear away at his moves purely from a qualitative clash of power.
Naturally, both of them were at their full power within their domains, so it was even more...exciting for Almond.
He grinned. ’Good. Time to get serious.’
The duel spiraled into chaos—phantoms of Almond’s blades splitting into doubled projectiles thanks to Phantom Parade, curving like black comets.
The demon mirrored him with storms of distorted lightning, each bolt fracturing midair into serpents that hissed as though alive. Within seconds, the forest clearing became a furnace of shadows, lightning, and exploding roots.
"Not bad, but if that’s all, let’s finish this."
"Grooarrrrr, roarrrr
Almond blinked as he heard gibberish roars. ’Is Grimverse warping our voices...’
He wryly smiled. Of course. Why would it spare voices when it distorted everything else?
Well, it was time to finish this.
Blade of Harvester [ Grim-Fated Cut, Ten Into One, Spectre Blade, Phantom Parade ]
A rain of flickering blades shot at the opponent, its defense helpless.
A strange weakness washed over the demonic figure as it became slow and panicky, reflecting clearly in its attempt to kill Almond fast.
Alas, that was not possible.
Almond’s blades swung down in offensive might.
Web of Silencing Slashes.
The demonic figure froze, eyes widening as its "future" of blocking the attack simply collapsed into nothingness. Its arm, meant to parry, never existed for that moment.
Severed.
The slashes cleaved down through the chest and wings, severing the being’s path forward. The monster’s flames guttered out, and with a roar that bled into silence, it fell apart into motes of unreal light.
Oblivion’s true concept activated, recording and storing the memory it perceived as Spirit, which Almond used to heal himself from the wounds he received.
...
Lily and other Regalons who were pressing forward encountered strong foes every now and then as well.
But eliminating them wasn’t easy, even though there were some close calls.
Eventually, people began crossing the forest successfully.
Almond crossed it after seventeen hours.
He believed the points wouldn’t be given based on how fast one crossed the forest, but it would be based on performance.
[ The scores will be shown once this examination round is finished. ]
