Chapter 572: Monster Wave Defense (2/2)

Shadow Stalkers were tricky monsters.

They have physical immunity unless the weapon was coated with Pulse, then it would deal damage to Shadow Stalkers according to one’s Arihanta.

But there was a better way for him to kill these Tier-2 Shadow Stalkers with ease.

4-star card, Grim Severam!

Shadow Sever!

He allied Shadow Sever on all fifty Grimblades wielded by his army.

The effect was immediate and devastating as both groups clashed.

When the enhanced Grimblades struck the shadows, they were split.

With the card further empowering all Grimblades by 100% for the duration of Grim Severam, it was instant kills.

Shadow stalkers dissipated one by one as his Goblin Wolf Raiders tore through their ranks.

One stealthy shadow stalker got past the army and materialized directly behind Almond, its blade-arm raised for a killing strike.

But a pitch-black Grimblade with purple eye patterns quietly materialized behind the Shadow Stalker and severed it before absorbing it.

One of the ten Rare-rank Tier-5 Grimblade—Abyssal Watchblade, made from the body parts of a Tier-5 Ebony Triclopes Visorbird. Its second effect from turning Common to Rare was a passive effect of automatically attacking anyone or anything if it was about to attack him.

And its first effect was Shadow Lord: Mastery over Shadow, the ability to devour Light, and the ability to absorb Shadow to boost itself.

[Wave 5 Beginning: MINI-BOSS - Ironhide Behemoth]

The void rippled, and something massive began to emerge.

It was a behemoth—a quadrupedal monster the size of a house, with thick, metallic hide that gleamed like burnished steel. Its eyes glowed orange like molten metal, and steam hissed from vents along its spine. Each step made the entire pathway tremble.

[Ironhide Behamoth]

Lifeform: Tier-3|Evolving.

Stats:

— Pulse: 3000/3000

— Constitution: 300

— Arihanta: 300

— Will: 300

"Roar!"

The behemoth opened its mouth and roared, the sound so powerful it created a visible shockwave that rattled Almond’s bones.

Then it charged.

Despite its massive size, the creature moved with surprising speed. The pathway shook with each thunderous footfall as it bore down on Almond like an avalanche of metal and fury.

’Now we’re talking.’

Almond grinned widely, his pulse quickening with excitement.

He could use this one’s fabricated Oblivion Spirit as an ingredient.

’Go.’

He commanded his army as he applied ’Defense Sever’ to Grimblades wielded by 48 Goblin Wolf Raiders.

Two died in the previous wave.

More might die this time.

But he was about to raise another army.

Leaving one Shadow Stalker Oblivion Spirit aside, he fused the other forty-nine Oblivion Spirits with forty-nine Armored Orcs’ Oblivion Spirits.

Almond floated atop as another army spawned in the path. Black giant humanoids covered in shadow armor, each one holding a shadow hybrid axe or a hammer.

Due to Almond’s shadow casting, it looked like they spawned out of his shadow. Their number and size instantly overpower the incoming Ironhide Behamoth’s presence.

Goblin Wolf Raiders were flung away like toys, with some of them dying instantly as the behemoth ramped towards the Nexus, about to meet the Shadow Orc army.

Almond’s eyes flickered right as his army, in chained coordination, clashed against the behemoth, slowing it down significantly upon the crash.

The power of 49 peak Tier-2 Shadow Orcs managed to stop the behemoth in its tracks.

"Roar!"

The other four Behamoth in the other player’s lane rampaged as well.

But one loud blast rang that startled everyone.

[ Player Yovenbil is eliminated. Final Score: 300. ]

Almond snapped his finger.

9-star Card, Grim Convergence Slash!

Aside from the ones already destroyed twice and turned into Grim Essence, forty-something Grimblades that were not broken converged together. Their effects are boosted by ten times!

That included the effect given to them by his Grim Severam card!

Almond’s eyes flickered as a single long and sleek giant grimblade formed that descended like a cleaver.

CHREEEEE!

The Grimblades sparked and screeched against the metallic surface...for just one second.

It proved its defensive skills in that second.

BHAAAK!

And then the blade bore down, splitting it apart as well as the ground below slightly as it struck down.

[ +46 Common Essence]

"RARRRR..." Ironhide Behamoth’s separated head strangely roared before becoming weaker, and then turning completely silent.

[ Wave 5 Complete! ]

Score: 500

Almond promptly turned the Behamoth’s body parts into four Grimblades while his second deck’s only card, the passive card, fabricated Ironhide Behamoth’s Oblivion Spirit in the Spiritual Weaving Room.

[Wave 6 Beginning: Spectral Knights]

[Monsters: 30]

Spectral knights materialized from the void—translucent warriors in ancient blue-red ghastly armor, wielding ethereal swords and spears. They floated several feet above the ground and moved with eerie grace.

Almond’s eyes lit up.

’Perfect!’

These monsters’ Oblivion Spirits would be useful to further shape Alfred’s new form and his aspects.

Almond cracked his neck.

It was time to bring out big weapons to finish the waves faster.

These 35 Spectral Knights were Tier-3 after all, each one as strong as the previous behemoth.

A new wave of Grimblades appeared.

Eight more Rare-rank Tier-5 Grimblades, besides the Crimson Ballard Mandrake, and Abyssal Watchblade manifested, accompanied by another 38 Common-rank Tier-5.

None of the Rare-rank Grmblades moved.

Meanwhile, the other 38 Commo-rank Tier-5 Grimblades tore through the air with blinding speed as they skewered through the army of Spectral Knights.

A Grimblade forged from a Tier-5 Tempest Wyrm’s wing bones sliced through three Spectral Knights, and each cut released a compressed wind blade that expanded into thousands of razor-thin wind shreds. The spectral armor meant nothing—the shreds passed through and shredded their ethereal forms from the inside out, dispersing them into fading particles.

Violent Black lightning, Chaotic Magma Blasts, Million Shred Wind Waves, Razor Sand Storm, Frostnox Poison Gas.

Another Grimblade, crafted from the crystallized heart of a Tier-5 Void Serpent, fired a beam of corrosive void energy—Void Dissolution: Erase the object in contact if its pulse rating is lower than the user.

The knight ceased to exist.

Another one that simply shredded all knights within 20 meters of its storm within a second—Howling Gale Edge, an effect from a Grimblade manifested from Tier-5 body parts of Storm Collosus Dragon.

With such 38 Tier-5 Grimblades, it took a total of 2 seconds to kill all the spectral knights.

And formed their forms, 30 new Grimblades arose, while in his Spiritual Weaving Room fabricated 30 new Oblivion Spirits.

’More. I’ll combine one from each wave.’ Almond grinned. ’Give me more waves.’

[ Monster Wave 7: Kickboxer Storm Apes x 30 | Tier-3 ]

One more player was eliminated during wave 7.

Another player was eliminated.

The last player was Kragath the Scaled, on his last legs.

The others didn’t have decks like Almond that could summon an army of allies.

Nor did they have an abundance of blades with a myriad of effects.

Almond was wondering what kind of kinds they got, but he could guess after watching their battles.

First, unlike him, they had way more cards. Not just cards of decks, but neutral cards as well.

Rombe had told him about it.

From Layer 2 onward, Neutral cards would become available through various means.

Trading, Buying, Earning as a reward from higher ranks games, and such.

Each of those had their decks filled as well, as he saw each of them using more than 15 different cards.

Almond focused back on his lane as his increasing army and blades, slaughtered the Wave 9, which soon joined his army.

He kept samples from each wave for Alfred and turned others into his fused army, combining two types of monsters into one.

’What the hell?!’ Kragath looked at Almond’s pathway and was dumbfounded.

’This is crazy. Those weapons are cheating! Is he one of those who managed to build broken decks?’

[ Wave 10 Begins: BOSS — Marrow Blight Centipede | Tier-4 ]

’Finally, Tier-4.’ Almond rolled his eyes.

Grimblades hissed.

Kragath’s eyes widened as he looked at Almond’s path instead of looking at the Centipede that was about to eliminate him.

He was spent. He couldn’t on anyway.

But before he disappeared, he freaking saw it.

Those blades once again absolutely annihilated the boss as if it were just another random monster.

’Who the hell is he?’
