Chapter 766: Where Sun & Moon Both Shines (2/2)

Chapter 766: Where Sun & Moon Both Shines (2/2)

The garden itself joined the fight within the first minute, sun-side flowers snapping shut on ankles that lingered too long, moon-side petals drifting into blinding, silvery clouds wherever a fight strayed too far from the center line.

Almond used the Warlord’s own momentum against the terrain twice, letting a wide overhead swing carry him stumbling into a patch of biting sun-blooms that closed around his boot and cost him a full second of balance.

"Careful where you swing," Almond said. "This garden doesn’t pick sides."

"Neither do I," the Warlord growled, tearing free, and came at him harder.

Rudra’s ground war with the Warden ground on with brutal patience, each tremor of unstable footing chipping another crack into the pale energy wall, until a final, driving strike finally punched clean through it and sent the Warden sprawling.

"Yield," Rudra said, blade steady at his throat.

The Warden looked past him at the wider fight, weighed something silently, and did not yield at all. He reached instead for a hidden blade at his own belt, and Rudra, reading the intent a half second before the motion finished, ended it there instead.

It was quick. It was not something any of them would talk about easily afterward.

The coin at the Warden’s belt rolled free across the grass, and Rudra picked it up without a word, jaw tight, and turned back into the fight.

...

Ainen’s duel with the flame caster turned into something closer to a debate than a battle, fire meeting transmutation again and again until neither element trusted the other to behave.

"You keep trying to burn me," Ainen said, deflecting a third fireball into a shape that dissolved into harmless steam on contact with his blade. "I keep trying to convince your fire it’s actually soup. We’re both stubborn."

"Soup doesn’t win wars," she snapped, and pressed harder, flame licking hotter against a defense that refused to catch.

"Depends on the war," Ainen said, and closed the distance at last, blade finding the narrow gap in her guard the moment her own frustration cracked it open.

She went down hard, fire guttering out with her focus, and did not get back up in time to stop the killing stroke that followed. It happened as fast and clean as the Warden’s had, and Ainen’s easy humor didn’t return for several long seconds afterward.

Lily’s fight with the mirrored twins ended the way most mirrored things ended once someone found the one true difference between them. She noticed it in their footwork, one twin favoring a half-step lead the other never quite matched, and she broke the rhythm on that single flaw, whip catching the leading twin mid-stride and the second a heartbeat later when his balance faltered without his partner’s rhythm to hold it.

Neither of them rose again.

Almond finished the Warlord last, reading the man’s pride the way he’d read everything else about him, baiting one final overextended swing and turning it, at last, into the opening that ended it.

Five coins scattered loose across sun and moon grass alike, and for a long, heavy moment, none of the four Regalons standing among them said anything at all.

"That’s different from every fight before this one," Lily said quietly.

"It is," Almond agreed. "This event doesn’t leave much room for anything else, not this close to the end."

---

They had barely gathered the last of the scattered coins when the garden’s air changed, pressure dropping fast across the dividing seam, and four new figures burst through a tear in the light itself.

Vaelmourn banners. The second remaining group, and they had not come to talk.

Their leader’s first attack was already airborne before any of the Regalons finished turning, a lance of raw force screaming straight for the dais at the garden’s center, aimed less at killing anyone than at simply denying the coins to everyone else at once.

Lily was already there.

She had broken from the fight the instant the twins fell, silent and unnoticed in the chaos of five bodies and one heavy ending, and her hand closed around the last coin on the dais a full second before the Vaelmourn strike could have scattered it beyond anyone’s reach.

The world went white and gold at once.

[Final Rumble Coin claimed.]

[Rumble Coins remaining: 0]

[Event Complete.]

The incoming attack simply stopped, frozen mid-flight in light that no longer answered to momentum or intent, and the four Vaelmourn newcomers froze with it, caught between one motion and the next in a garden that had just finished deciding it was done.

---

The white light lifted a moment later, and the resort’s endless halls were gone, replaced by open sky and the quiet gathering ground of the pocket world Almond, Lily, Rudra, and Ainen hadn’t seen in what felt, all at once, like a very long time.

The Hub’s final tally wrote itself across a clean morning sky.

[Final Standings: Rumble in Resort]

[1st Place: Ananta Regalon — 44 coins]

[2nd Place: Vaelmourn — 31 coins]

[3rd Place: Ravengard — 25 coins]

[1st Place Reward: All members of Ananta Regalon Kingdom elevated to Tier-40 lifeform.]

Almond read the numbers twice, the way he read everything that mattered, and let out a breath he felt like he’d been holding since a spoon and a cup and a garden that couldn’t decide between day and night.

"Forty-four," he said.

"We won," Lily said, and the words came out quieter than any victory this large probably deserved, worn thin by everything it had cost to get here.

Rudra looked at the coin still resting in his own palm, the one that had come from a man who’d chosen a hidden blade over a clean yield, and closed his fist around it slowly.

"We did," he said. "Let’s go home and remember what that’s supposed to feel like."

Behind them, the gathering ground began to fill with the rest of the family, drawn by a notice that had just reached every soul in the kingdom at once, and for the first time since a white expanse had swallowed four hundred coins’ worth of history, Ananta Regalon breathed as one whole, victorious, exhausted thing again.
