Chapter 568: Nearly Blasting His Brains Out

Chapter 568: Nearly Blasting His Brains Out

As her voice faded, Rael turned back to Beatrice, who had a smirk on her face.

"What?"

"I wonder...?" Beatrice hummed. "Come on, go ahead and invade my mind. See what happens."

Rael sighed. "Mind giving me a hint, for starters?"

"I might give you a hint if you go ahead and invade my mind~" Beatrice replied playfully.

Though that question wasn’t only directed at her, but also Gaia.

However...

[Nope.]

Gaia...?

[You have the perfect opportunity to learn what has to be learned. And by understanding the concept yourself, you’ll be able to utilize it better,] Gaia replied. [Basically, don’t call me for help, since I won’t come.]

He felt a pang in his chest. For the first time in a while, Gaia told him off.

So with that, he wasn’t really left with many choices. Sure, Anna could help, maybe. But at that point, he would just be finding shortcuts.

Therefore, while Beatrice had her cheeky grin, Rael focused on the mana in his body and then invaded hers.

Yet when his vision shifted to hers, he suddenly saw his own body move as a claw-like grip was made, aimed directly for his...

Rael switched back just in time to avoid losing his little brother and then stared at Beatrice with a look of disbelief.

"That was a low blow."

Beatrice chuckled. "No kidding. I might actually beat you this time."

"Well, I’m sure if it came down to it, I would be able to take care of you," Rael replied. "But since I have to abide by Evelyn’s rules, I won’t do anything."

Hearing that, Beatrice scoffed. "Yeah, you just reminded me why I don’t like you. Plus, if you could take care of me so easily, you wouldn’t be struggling now, would you?"

The two locked eyes as the air sparked. It seemed like they would clash at any moment when, out of nowhere, Rael sat down on the bed and turned his back to her.

"Hmm?" Beatrice tilted her head. "What’s up? Aren’t you going to try more?"

Rael closed his eyes. "If I throw a rock into the ocean, will it float back up?"

She raised a brow and sat down on her own bed.

"No?"

"Then why should I toss another one if I know the outcome?" Rael replied with a sigh, turning his head to her. "I’ll try again later, since as it stands, I’d only be making a fool of myself if I kept trying the same thing over and over again."

In some cases, repetition would be the key to success. However, when he had no idea where to even begin, and he also had her ripping his balls off to worry about, Rael wanted to take it slow.

"You know, if you won’t invade my mind, then I’ll go ahead and invade yours," Beatrice said, crossing her arms.

And then, he felt a prick at the back of his head. It was as if someone had just sent a strand of mana at him, then sent the mana across the strand until finally, he felt someone trying to invade his mind.

It was a faint sensation at first, but with every passing second that the mana traveled across the strand, he realized the invasiveness only grew further.

Of course, all of this was happening within a fraction of a second, and he could only experience such precision because of his Law of Time mastery.

However, this little strand of Beatrice’s mana was just that, a strand. And so, with a light flick of his finger, he snapped the strand, causing Beatrice’s eyes to widen.

"D-Did you just...?"

"That was informative," Rael said with a smile. "I was looking at it the wrong way, I guess. I always tried to just directly invade a body, which worked, but since there was no actual connection, my consciousness just basically switched bodies."

That, of course, was the reason why he kept losing control of his body.

I remember when I first started with this mind invading stuff, I at least stood on my feet... I guess the stronger this skill grew, the more precision it needed. And since I didn’t have any precision... Yeah.

That would explain a few things, but if precision was what he needed, then he was already one step ahead.

Rael swirled the skill around in his heart and then dragged it to his mind. Normally, he would enter his Mind Realm if he did it like this, but instead, he hovered the mana just on the outskirts of his brain, right on the forehead.

And then, he imagined a line leaving his body. It was thin at first, but for some reason, when it was around two centimeters out of his forehead, it began growing unstable.

Rael frowned and opened his eyes, realizing that the mana in the thread was growing unstable and twisting at odd angles. And before long, the thread he had been trying to create snapped, causing all the mana he had gathered to dissipate just like that.

He tried to gather what remained in the air and bring it back into his body. However, in doing so, he was only left with 10% of his DTP.

And of course, a massive fucking headache as well.

"Ugh..." Rael rubbed his forehead as the dissipated mana slightly sparkled around him.

Just then, Beatrice walked over to him and grabbed him by his collar.

"What was that?" she asked coldly. "Were you trying to kill yourself?"

Rael raised a brow. "And let you have the pleasure of winning the bet? Nope. I was just copying what you were doing."

"Blowing my brains out? Is that what I was doing?" Beatrice tightened her grip. "Listen... When it comes to mind practice, you practice it inside your mind, understand? Don’t do that ever again."

She let him go and then walked over to her bed, turning her back to him.

"You were lucky this time, but the next, you might just permanently cripple yourself."

After a brief moment of awkward silence, she added:

"And don’t take this as me caring about you. I just don’t want you to die like an absolute idiot, is all."

"...If you say so," Rael replied in a teasing tone, and as she began calling him all sorts of names, he closed his eyes.

Instead of practicing it inside his mind, Rael went with a different approach, and that was to enter the Prophetical Realm.

Since he could play out many different scenarios through fate, he might as well see which way works.

After all, it wasn’t really cheating or taking shortcuts. It was just him using his abilities efficiently.

Totally.
