Chapter 642: His Stance
Chapter 642: His Stance
“But Lilith, I don’t want you to assume that I’ve never treated you as a daughter. I have. That is why I made so many exceptions for you. That is why I shielded you from so many threats, went against my entire council, and lastly, the reason why I sent you off to safety under the guise of exile.”
The moment Johan finished his words, Lilith could do nothing but stare at the ground, unsure of how to feel.
On the other hand, Rael had somewhat expected this.
He had heard a lot about these kinds of tropes in the past back when he was playing Sketa Online.
There were a lot of quests where these exact things happened, but obviously they weren’t on the level of such powerhouses.
Even so, Rael didn’t say a word.
This was Lilith’s moment, and no matter how she responded, he was going to be on her side.
She took a few moments to herself, pondering over everything.
And finally, when she glanced back up, she spoke.
“Why have you never tried to reach out to me?”
Johan smiled slightly. “When I sent you away, I sent you to a place where a civilization of demons was still blooming. They were some people I’ve helped before, and before sending you off, I informed them of your arrival. They accepted you, and after you gained their trust, they made you the leader.”
Of course, he was talking about the Darkness Demons.
“And yes, while I’ve never reached out to you, I always looked over you and averted all danger that might’ve passed you. A few of your siblings tried to look for you after your exile, but I warded them off.”
“But now… With your return, those very same siblings might get some funny ideas. Be prepared, if the throne truly is what you wish.”
With that, he fell silent.
Lilith clenched her fists.
“Do you expect me to forgive you just because you told me everything was for my own good?”
“…”
“I suffered for decades, and you awarded my suffering by quarantining me and controlling all my actions from a distance. Not only that, you didn’t trust me enough to let me handle myself… What if I didn’t want to leave? Have you ever thought about how I felt before making your decision?”
She seemed to get angrier and angrier by the moment.
“I don’t forgive you, and I won’t thank you for what you did. Instead, I want you to reinstate me as the primary successor to your position.”
Extending her arms outward, she said, “After all, even if I am an orphan and I’ve never really been your daughter, I have your bloodline now.”
“…”
Johan rubbed his forehead.
“That can be arranged…”
Lilith’s expression lit up.
“However… I must ask, just how exactly did you obtain that bloodline?”
“That’s a secret,” she replied.
“I understand.” Johan nodded.
He was surprisingly compliant.
Rael could also subtly feel his emotions, and they were primarily regret and longing.
But then again, his situation was similar to the situation between Rael and Melissa.
A simple sorry wouldn’t fix it.
Johan suddenly turned toward Rael and said, “You too. You seem to have a bloodline that’s even superior to my own. Do you have no interest to run for the throne?”
Rael tilted his head. “You’re suggesting I’d be eligible? No, aside from that, I’m not interested. This isn’t my quarrel to deal with, and I don’t want to sweep in and collect all the spoils. Lilith is the one who’s going to get the throne, and I’ll just make sure her shit siblings don’t kill her before then.”
Johan gave Rael a quick nod of approval, and then, with a single snap of his fingers, he reopened the throne room’s doors.
Suddenly, everyone who had been waiting outside now came back inside.
Lilith quickly wiped away a stray tear, and after that, Elizabeth approached her with a frown.
“Did you feed father some of your stupid ideas again?”
“Not at all.” Lilith composed herself instantly. “Instead, he told me my bloodline purity was very high. Much higher than yours, and you know what that means, don’t you?”
Elizabeth frowned.
“That is a deal we made on the spot. Since we didn’t sign a contract, it is void.”
Wow…
What a bitch.
“No wonder you can’t find a husband.”
As those words escaped Rael’s mouth, every single person in the throne room turned toward him.
That kind of slipped out.
But oh well, since Rael already opened the flood gates, he might as well keep going.
“You act like you’re better than everyone else, but even after taking your siblings’ achievements and faking promises, you seem no better than a regular demon. In fact, I bet a regular demon could run your territories better than you can.”
“Rael Sutekh, calm down,” Johan said with a sigh. “This is not a courtroom, nor is it a room where you discuss your personal feelings so openly. Simply have this conversation after you leave my throne room. Until then, listen to what I have to say.”
Elizabeth glared at Rael like she wanted to kill him, and he honestly wanted her to give it a try.
Nonetheless, knowing that going against Johan’s word here would be suicidal, the two of them glanced at him.
The moment they did, he began talking.
“From this day forth, I reinstate Lilith as one of the successors to the Demon King title. Furthermore, I have decided to return all the territories she used to own beforehand, and also give a few more to control.”
“Since her bloodline is the purest out of all my children, I will assign her some special tasks. If she completes those special tasks, she may or may not become the Demon King,” he added. “And again, my word is sacred. If you have a problem, take it up with me.”
Although it seemed like that was all, Johan suddenly glanced over at Elizabeth.
“Lilith mentioned a bet between you two. I believe words are as good as writing. The moment they are spoken, they are set in stone…”
“So whatever bet you made and lost, I want you to fulfil your end now.”
