Chapter 671: The Spar
Chapter 671: The Spar
Okay.
"Pardon?"
Johan simply nodded back at him.
"Since you are considered the indisputable winner of the ceremony, you have the opportunity to spar with the Demon King."
He pointed at himself.
"I am offering you a chance, but that doesn’t mean you cannot refuse. A spar is not a fight to the death, so choose wisely..."
Rael stared for a few moments and fell into thought.
He didn’t expect this in the slightest.
But he also saw this as an interesting opportunity to check just how strong he had gotten.
After all, Johan was a Grade 10 Apocalypse Class.
Perhaps he was one of the strongest beings currently alive in the multiverse.
So it only took Rael a few seconds to make up his mind.
"Okay. Let’s spar."
Johan smirked slightly.
Then he snapped his fingers.
In an instant, every other contestant was flung out of the arena, and only Rael and himself were left.
The crowd erupted into cheers, as, after all, it had been a very long time since they had seen their Demon King fight.
Though their excitement was slightly dulled by the fact that the Demon King was going to fight against a Grade 3.
Regardless of what the crowd thought, Rael and Johan stared at each other intently until, finally, Johan spoke.
"To what extent do you want me to limit my power? Should I mirror what you can do?"
Rael shook his head.
"Use all your power. I’ll do the same."
For a moment, Johan felt as though he had misheard Rael.
But clearly, with Rael’s unwavering expression, that wasn’t the case.
So instead, he just chuckled and proceeded to enter a fighting stance.
It was a simple boxing stance at a glance, and Rael felt like he could break through it without much effort.
But it was also the Demon King he was up against.
Not letting his guard down, Rael went ahead and entered a defensive stance of his own.
After staring at each other for a few seconds, Johan finally nodded, signaling the start of the match.
Even the crowd noticed and fell silent.
However, even as the seconds ticked down, neither of them moved.
Rael, because he was wary.
But Johan...?
Was he waiting for Rael to make the first move?
If that was the case, and he was giving a cheap shot, Rael might as well take it.
He focused several Laws into his fists.
They were the most destructive of the bunch, and they also started disintegrating his arms slightly because of how unstable they were.
However, by countering them with a positive Law that improved healing and more, he managed to negate that effect and instead actually enhanced the tens of Laws he had been gathering.
And for the cherry on top...
<13 Laws Detected.>
<The strength of your Laws has been increased by: 1,000,000,000,000,000%>
A nice little increase to his strength.
Rael felt confident.
So confident, in fact, that he went ahead and made the first move.
His movement speed cracked the space around him, and with him momentarily freezing time, it seemed like Johan couldn’t react.
However, as Rael’s fist inched ever so closer to Johan’s face, he was suddenly blasted back by an unknown energy.
He skidded across the arena, and once he was on the very edge, only then did he realize both of his arms were gone.
Rael didn’t even have time to process the pain before seeing two objects fly toward him at a high speed.
The objects pierced his body, pinning him to the nearby wall.
Only then was Rael able to take a breath and realize that the objects were none other than his own arms.
It all happened so fast.
Even with time frozen and his speed enhanced by trillions of times, he wasn’t able to see the attack.
Instead of wallowing over it, Rael stared at Johan and then suddenly closed his eyes, hopping into the Prophetic Realm.
He carefully reviewed what had just happened, and to his genuine surprise, Johan had just used the technique he had told them to learn.
It wasn’t noticeable.
And he didn’t even exert that much strength.
He simply fooled Rael’s senses and dealt with him without breaking a sweat.
It was a little embarrassing, but at least now, Rael could see how well Johan’s technique worked in actual combat.
Gaia, can you add this technique to the list?
[Ability list? Will do,] Gaia replied immediately and did just that.
<Ding!>
<New Ability Added!>
<Abilities> ↳ 1. The Breath of the Ancient Primordial Monk: A breathing technique focusing on calming the mind and cleansing the spirit and soul. 2. (NEW) Presence Nullification Technique: A technique that perfectly separates your body and soul from the confines of the universe and puts you in an illusionary realm in between the Mortal Realm and the Soul Realm.
...What’s with the added flair?
[I decided to add more depth to the technique, since your comprehension was only practical,] Gaia replied. [Don’t worry, the technique works the same. Though, with this description, you might find it more useful than not.]
Rael nodded back at her, though he was also slightly saddened that his Primordial Sight couldn’t see through this technique.
After all, if it fell under the illusionary category, it shouldn’t work.
But then again, all seemingly overpowered abilities had a counter.
Nonetheless, Rael refocused on himself and then swiftly left the Prophetic Realm.
Since his feet hadn’t hit the ground outside of the arena, that didn’t mean that he was out.
So, after carefully regenerating his arms, he hopped back onto the arena, slightly surprising Johan, who had already begun to wipe the dust off his clothes, preparing to leave.
"You still wish to fight?"
Rael raised a brow.
"Well, I can’t really call it a spar if you beat me in one attack, now can I?"
He stared back at him for a moment, then let out a sigh.
"Very well, Rael. I will try a little harder this time, so for starters, try surviving my attacks."
