Chapter 675: Off To Training
Chapter 675: Off To Training
"Wipe your tears off first," Rael said with a sigh as the two stood right in front of the throne room.
Lilith rolled her eyes and did just that.
She wasn’t sure how to feel, especially because she had an inkling of what her father wanted to speak to her about.
And... she wasn’t sure how she wanted to respond yet.
Nonetheless, she didn’t have much time to think about the scenario as Rael suddenly swung the throne room doors open and stepped inside.
She followed after him and observed that the whole throne room was empty, aside from Johan sitting on the throne.
He looked surprisingly lonely.
Though that might be because Rael had massacred all of his children.
But from his gaze alone, it didn’t look like he blamed Rael for what he did.
In fact, there was a faint trace of admiration in his gaze.
So as the two of them finally arrived in front of Johan, they gave a quick bow of courtesy.
Just then, Johan let out a chuckle.
"At ease. Rael, you should take your leave as well. I wish to speak only to Lilith this time."
Rael stared at him for a moment, then glanced over at Lilith.
She nodded back at him.
So with that in mind, he let out a sigh and walked back the way he came from.
Right before closing the throne room’s door, he stared at Lilith and Johan.
Then, after getting a wave from both of them, he finally closed the door, allowing Lilith and Johan to have their talk.
"..."
"Why have you called me, father?"
Johan rested his chin on his palm.
"I’m sure you’ve already figured it out by now. You are the only successor that is capable of taking the throne. Reili is out of commission, Elizabeth is incompetent, and the two twins have been killed."
He then pointed at Lilith.
"But you currently have the most competence out of the remaining children. There are a few younger ones scattered around, but they are far too naive to ever warrant the throne. Whereas you, Lilith... What do you say to taking over my mantle?"
Lilith narrowed her eyes.
"I wouldn’t disagree."
Johan’s expression lit up slightly.
"Then do you wish to take the throne right away?"
For a moment, Lilith thought she had misheard him.
But when she glanced up to meet his determined gaze, she was left confused.
"Right now...?"
He nodded.
"I wish to make you the perfect Demon King. For that, I want to pass over everything I’ve learned and every bit of power I have. I want you to know this role isn’t binding. You may be free to do whatever you wish, except you would have the backing of every single demon in the multiverse at your disposal."
For a moment, she wasn’t sure what to say.
Though she also had no reason to refuse.
Her father was straight up giving her power, and although she had mixed feelings about him because of how he treated her in the past... she was also smart enough to put them aside for the bigger picture.
So in the end, the choice was incredibly obvious.
"I agree."
"..."
"Do you know what that implies?" Johan asked slowly. "You will have to train for a very, very long time."
Lilith clenched her fists.
"I am aware, father. I don’t care how long it takes, as long as I am ready before the war begins."
"Since we will be training in slowed down time, you will be more than ready by then. However, are you prepared to part with Rael for so long?"
Of course she didn’t want to.
But she had to.
Otherwise, she might just be a burden that the enemy would use to kill him.
"I am..."
Johan nodded a final time and then pointed at the door.
"Rael, I know you peeped in on the entire conversation. You may step inside now."
After a brief pause, the throne room doors opened, and Rael stepped inside, acting as nonchalantly as possible, but then nearly tripping on the carpet.
Putting aside his embarrassment, he stopped beside Lilith, and after gently brushing her hair once, he glanced over at Johan.
"Yes?"
"What are your thoughts on this?"
His thoughts...?
Why would they matter?
"It’s Lilith’s decision, and I respect it."
A faint smile appeared on Lilith’s face.
On the other hand, Johan simply sighed.
"Very well then. Do you mind if we start right away?"
Of course, that question was directed at Lilith.
"I... Yes. I don’t mind."
Johan seemed satisfied with the answer.
As for Rael...
It was fine.
They had already made plans.
So whether it was in a few months or years, he knew they would eventually do whatever they wanted together.
"Since I have the knowledge of several eons, it might take up to 8 months in real time for me to relay everything to her. Add a couple more months for her to absorb all that information, and we’re looking at around a year."
Rael wasn’t sure why Johan was being so considerate, but even so, he appreciated it.
"Now then... Since I forbid you from kissing in front of me, Lilith and I shall depart right away."
The moment he said those words, he snapped his fingers.
Before Rael could even embrace Lilith one final time, she was gone, and so was Johan.
Rael stared at the throne for a few seconds longer, and only now did the regret hit.
He didn’t really want her to leave.
Not for a year.
But then again, he was forced to not say a word since he knew that being selfish in this situation would only make him overly possessive of Lilith.
She needed her own time to grow.
So did he.
Heavy-hearted as he may have been, Rael sucked it up and finally left the throne room.
There was one more person he had to pick up before returning to his world.
Reili.
