Chapter 686: The Bridges
Chapter 686: The Bridges
Ugh...
Rael felt like he was going to vomit.
The food looked so good.
Meat skewers with some kind of sauce.
But that sauce tasted so bland, Rael was sure these guys didn’t use salt.
[Salt is unhealthy. People can enjoy food without having to risk heart disease,] Gaia replied.
He sensed a bit of mockery in her tone.
You know... I might not be some health expert, but salt is only bad for you if you overdo it. A little bit in a dish is fine, Rael said.
Gaia simply scoffed and stopped replying to him.
Rael was a little bit offended, but even so, he finished the rest of his meat skewers and turned to Anna, who was thoroughly enjoying the dish with a smile on her face.
At least someone likes it...
After just a few more minutes, both of them finished eating, and although Anna wanted a little more, Rael insisted that they needed to get going in case the Ancient Primordials were on their ass.
Since if they really were... he didn’t want to put all these people in danger.
And that wasn’t because he didn’t want to spend money on tasteless food.
Definitely not.
Though with that, the two of them finally set out along the tree root.
However, instead of following it from outside, they decided to move from inside the tree root.
There was, surprisingly, an escalator that moved them toward where they had to go.
And it looked like it moved faster depending on how much mana they infused into it.
Thankfully, they moved individually, because Rael was pretty sure there might accidentally be casualties if the whole escalator moved as fast as they were currently going.
Regardless of that, they zipped past countless districts and what appeared to be large cities.
The tree root got even wider the further in they went.
And there were many more merchant areas everywhere.
Rael was honestly captivated by this civilization.
They would be perfect if they had salt, though.
However, several hours in, Rael suddenly halted, feeling a powerful mana from the distance.
He didn’t recognize it, but he was sure that the mana belonged to one of the Ancient Primordials.
That must mean they had already set up traps everywhere.
"Ugh... How annoying."
"Should I dispose of him?" Anna offered.
Rael turned to her like a statue.
"Dispose of him? Aren’t you still weakened?"
Anna shook her head.
"After Gaia’s training, I’m around Grade 9 in power. Class-wise... maybe Apocalypse Class? I’m not too sure, as I believe the classes are a little meaningless."
Extra stats were never meaningless.
But sure.
"Let’s first approach that guy. No need to make any rash decisions just yet," Rael said.
And like that, he sped up on the escalator alongside Anna.
The powerful figure’s mana locked onto them, but to Rael’s surprise, nothing happened.
They simply zipped on by, and the figure started ignoring them.
"...It looks like that guy was a native?" Rael mused.
"Indeed. Gaia told me there are many like him around here," Anna replied.
Rael’s brows twitched.
"So you offered to off him even when you knew he was friendly?"
"...I thought it’s best to remain cautious," Anna said.
But upon noticing how stiff he was acting, she simply shrugged.
"I was just trying to tease you."
"..."
Great.
Rael wasn’t sure how to feel about this new Anna, but even so, after a couple more hours of traveling along the escalator, the two of them reached a whole new area.
The tree root was cut off, and there was a massive gap of several hundred kilometers between this root and the next.
It was separated by thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of wooden bridges.
None of which had an escalator.
Naturally, Rael wasn’t really that worried about the distance, because with his current speed, he could cross a hundred kilometers in a fraction of a second.
But seeing how eager Anna was, he felt like he should give her the experience of walking across the bridges.
And before he could even voice his thoughts, Anna glanced around and eventually chose a bridge up top.
It had no people on it.
So with a single kick off the ground, she arrived atop the bridge and glanced down at Rael, as if telling him to follow her.
Rolling his eyes, Rael reappeared beside her.
She chose a bridge rather high up.
It was also a little bit wobbly.
Rael thought he had gotten over these types of wobbly sensations...
In the past, he had traveled by a cruise ship once or twice.
Either way, all he remembered from that trip was his parents yelling at him because he spent the majority of his time vomiting on the ground and making everyone uncomfortable.
Ah...
The good old days.
Though, standing on this wobbly bridge, he felt like vomiting again.
So while Anna was busy indulging herself in the feeling of walking across the bridge, Rael proceeded to hover slightly above it so he wouldn’t vomit all over Anna’s back.
Just like that, the two of them began to cross the bridge.
Anna seemed to enjoy herself.
As for Rael, he carefully glanced around, and only then did he spot a massive branch in the distance.
It seemed to extend for what looked like forever.
And yet, despite that massive branch being there, Rael couldn’t see the tree itself.
Really...
Just how big was Yggdrasil?
They eventually got off the bridge, and while Rael wanted to continue going on ahead, Anna insisted on getting food.
He was hesitant to eat it, but thankfully, these people actually used salt, so the dish wasn’t completely tasteless.
But amidst Rael and Anna having a good time, he suddenly froze, feeling a sharp bloodlust from the distance.
Before he could track the source, the bloodlust vanished.
However, Rael wasn’t stupid.
He immediately hopped into the Prophetic Realm and located the source of the bloodlust.
And to his dismay, it was a burly man with a crimson eye tattoo on his forearm.
"..."
The Ancient Primordials had found them.
