Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 689: Aspirations

Chapter 689: Aspirations

After the earlier conversation, Rael and Anna simply continued walking on ahead.

There were no more Ancient Primordials in sight, but even so, Rael could vaguely feel as though someone was watching him.

But even if that was the case, he couldn’t pinpoint the actual location, since the moment he tried to enter his Prophetic Realm, a few results came up blank.

It looked like despite him having the Law of Infinity, he couldn’t bypass some things just yet.

Though Rael was sure that when he increased the mastery a little more, he would be able to do just about anything.

"Hey, Rael?" Anna called out.

When he turned toward her, she said:

"I’ve been observing you for a while now... But I still don’t know what your goal is. What do you plan to do after killing Lucien and winning the war?"

Oh...

He didn’t really expect such a question.

But then again...

"Do I need to have a goal in mind? I feel like living forever with those I care about seems like a fun time."

"You’re underestimating the words ’forever,’" Anna replied in a soft tone. "Imagine doing the same thing over and over again for a thousand years. Now imagine a million, billion, trillions of years. At some point, no matter how unbothered you make yourself seem, I can tell from Solenne’s experience that you’ll become miserable."

Hearing that, Rael paused for a moment, carefully considering her words.

"I guess... If it ever comes down to it, I’ll just live out a mortal lifespan?"

Anna was a little puzzled.

"What do you mean?"

So he decided to explain a little.

"I was born human, and I had always been human. Although I might be some immortal space monster, deep down, I believe I’m still human, so I don’t think I’d mind if, instead of eternity, I live out a normal lifespan. After all, in my eyes, 70 years seems like a lot of time."

Even though he said that, Rael wasn’t sure if he believed himself.

He could meditate for millennia without keeping track of time.

Perhaps he was far off from being human anymore, and he should come to accept it.

But still... Rael felt like he was just a little unprepared for Anna’s question.

And as if noticing that, Anna didn’t ask him about it any further.

He would consider it when the time comes.

For now, he wanted to focus on finding Gaia’s body.

In the blink of an eye, several days had passed.

Rael and Anna had picked up their pace some time down the line, and by now, hundreds of other branches appeared in the sky, all of which came from a single point.

And after all this time... they could finally see it.

The bark of a tree so wide and tall that they couldn’t see the end.

No matter how left or right Rael looked... Yggdrasil was still there.

And if she wasn’t kidding when she said it was several galaxies tall, then Rael was thoroughly impressed.

Say... Gaia, were there any faster ways to get here? Rael asked.

Gaia chuckled.

[If there were, don’t you think I would’ve told you?]

I mean, couldn’t you have just given me some coordinates? I could’ve teleported to them.

[Right. Why don’t you try teleporting a few meters in front of you, then?] Gaia suggested.

Puzzled, Rael tried it out.

To his surprise, he couldn’t even create a crack in space, let alone teleport.

He could still move fast, sure... but did it really matter?

"Anna, let’s enter the tree right away."

She nodded at him, and then glanced around.

It didn’t take long for her to spot a massive entrance, even atop the tree root.

So with spring in her step, she ran over there, and Rael followed.

The two entered Yggdrasil, and were immediately met with a colossal city.

It was both modern and old school.

Flying cars and carriages... Rael was extremely impressed.

There were so many people, and most of them were humans, while a few were elves, dwarves, or even demi-humans.

They all seemed to get along nicely, and as much as Rael wanted to admire this civilization further, he focused on the spiral staircase which was dead center of the colossal city.

The steps were large, and unlike some of the buildings, they appeared handmade.

[Take those up to the very top, and you should be able to reach me,] Gaia said.

Rael nodded.

Then he patted Anna’s head and got a move on, quickly arriving by the stairs and starting to climb them.

But not even a couple of steps in, two bulky men descended.

"Halt! You’re not allowed to go here."

"Is that so..." Rael narrowed his eyes.

These people were natives.

But despite their arrogance, they were only Grade 5s.

Before Rael could do a thing, Anna suddenly reappeared behind the two guards and struck their necks.

In an instant, they fell to their knees and passed out.

Rael let out a sigh, then tossed the guards aside to some random part of the colossal city.

"We could’ve talked it out," Rael said.

Anna tilted her head.

"Could we? I simply followed what you usually do. You don’t talk it out, and instead resort to fighting. Did I do something wrong?"

Uhh...

"Now that you mention it... forget it."

In hindsight, perhaps this atmosphere made him forget that he probably would’ve beat the shit out of these guards just because.

Anyhow, with the guard situation sorted, Anna and Rael began running up the stairs.

They saw a few people along the way, but all of them wore some kind of fancy attire that didn’t seem to fit the casual folk down there.

Rael guessed that these people were the nobles Gaia mentioned.

Regardless of that, they scaled the stairs for hours on end until eventually, the staircase ended.

Yet as he glanced above, he noticed that he wasn’t anywhere close to the top.

[Hmm...]

Gaia let out a sigh.

[It appears someone has sabotaged the main entrance.]
