Chapter 690: The Fallen Staircase
Chapter 690: The Fallen Staircase
No shit.
"So what now?" Rael asked the obvious. "I’m not seeing a staircase anywhere above us. Whoever did this might’ve broken the entire thing leading all the way up to where you are."
Gaia let out another sigh.
[That appears to be the case. Though, I’m fairly certain that the ones responsible are the nobles. There are a few families that live a little higher up, and if they want to keep their lineage safe, I feel like they might be the ones who destroyed the bridge.]
Hearing that, Rael grumbled.
There were so many problems when it came to nobles.
In his world, and even in Gaia’s fairytale world.
But even so, Rael knew that when there was a problem, there was also some kind of solution.
He had one solution in mind in particular.
Theoretically... Let’s say you show me how the stairs were supposed to look. Do you think I could use the Law of Time to somehow revert the stairs to that time period?
Hearing his rough explanation, Gaia fell into thought for a moment.
As he said, theoretically, something like this was indeed possible.
There would be a problem of mana... but he could have an infinite amount so long as he turned back time for himself.
So as Gaia pondered over it for a few moments, Rael took the initiative and closed his eyes.
He entered the Prophetic Realm soon after.
As he stood in the Prophetic Realm, Rael focused on the area in front of him, and especially the staircase that had been cut off.
Then, he rolled back time a few years.
It was still gone.
Ten years.
Still gone.
A hundred years...
One billion years.
When Rael reached this crazy number, he suddenly spotted something interesting.
A scene played out before him, displaying the destruction of the staircase by what looked like a couple dozen bombs.
More importantly, when Rael glanced further up, he spotted some long red hair dangling by the edge and peeking down at the destruction.
Rael stopped time at that exact moment.
Then, he reverted time back a few minutes before the explosion happened.
He calmly climbed up the stairs, and when he arrived at the place where he saw that woman, he was surprised to see a literal child.
She looked very young.
Though, Rael could also feel a bunch of power coming from within her.
He restarted time and then saw as she pulled out dozens of explosives from seemingly nowhere.
Then, she chucked them down, and before long, the staircase exploded.
He was now beside her, watching as she glanced down in amazement.
But after the explosions were finished, she stood up and walked backward.
Rael didn’t expect much from this floor, but honestly...? It was like a small village filled with red-haired humans that were just like the little girl.
It was hard to believe that these people considered themselves nobles when they lived in straw houses and hunted boars to survive.
Rael tried to look a bit further, but that was when the Prophetic Realm became blurry.
The faces of everyone present became practically unrecognizable.
And before long, the Prophetic Realm crumbled until there was nothing left.
Rael tried to replay the scenario a couple of times, but in each version, the red-haired girl was no longer there.
The people he had seen were also completely gone.
And as for the destruction of the staircase... It almost looked like it had been done naturally.
Small cracks were spread out everywhere, and after a couple million years, the staircase eventually gave in and collapsed onto itself.
Just like that, the vision returned to normal as time froze once again.
But Rael wasn’t really sure how to deal with this piece of information.
"Could it have been an alternate version, and then a version of what really happened? Gaia, I know this might sound a little weird, but is Yggdrasil connected to only one timeline?"
He had a tingling suspicion that the concept of multiverses applied to this as well.
Except in Yggdrasil, all those multiverses had been stacked on top of each other.
And almost like he had hit the bullseye, Gaia soon spoke:
[You’re half right. The red-haired girl you saw is from an ancient Yggdrasilian royal family. She had a similar ability to your Premium Shop, hence where the bombs had come from.]
Taking a deep breath, she added, [While I wasn’t here when this happened, I’d say when she destroyed the staircase in her timeline, she indirectly influenced the destruction of the staircase in other timelines as well. That means so long as you revert what she had done, you should be able to technically restore the bridge.]
Hearing that, a faint smile appeared on Rael’s face.
And with that, he finally left the Prophetic Realm, reappearing beside Anna who, to his surprise, had started using some shadowy abilities to build her own bridge.
It looked identical to the one they had walked on all this time.
The only problem was that it was taking her a bit too long to build it.
And so, at this rate, it would take her a couple hundred years to reach the level where that red-haired girl was.
Rael couldn’t have that.
"Anna, get down, would you? There’s something I want to try out real quick."
Anna glanced down at him in confusion.
"If I stop building, it’s going to collapse."
Rael sighed.
"It’s fine. Trust me on this one."
Although skeptical, Anna eventually listened to Rael and let go of her shadow abilities.
In an instant, everything that she had just built vanished.
When she landed beside him, she crossed her arms.
It was surprising to see her a little bit pissed, since he was kind of used to her being completely expressionless.
But regardless of that, Rael took a few deep breaths and focused.
He imagined the staircase and began channeling his mana.
Rael had never tried turning back time at such a volume.
But there was a first time for everything.
