Chapter 773: Unfreezing Time
Chapter 773: Unfreezing Time
In the next instant, Rael felt a massive amount of mana suddenly travel back into his body and distort the surroundings.
Yet the distortion was a bit stranger than he had expected, since it managed to cause the temperature to increase drastically, then decrease.
For a moment, Rael thought something was wrong and that, by doing this, he would accidentally kill every single person present.
But only then did he realize that the reason this was happening was because the sun’s rays were trapped in time for God knows how long.
And so, those rays were acting up now, independently of humans and everything else.
Noticing that Rael and Melissa were unaffected, Rael knew that the plant life was pretty much screwed in South Korea.
But who cares?
They can just start regrowing again.
Anyhow, he took another deep breath and stepped back, admiring what was happening in front of him.
The mana seemed to travel in and out of the humans, assimilating with them and slightly aging them.
On the other hand, there were a few humans who took the mana and straight up absorbed it into their bodies, thus awakening themselves, similarly to the apocalypse Rael experienced in the memory record.
Melissa was one such person, and she absorbed an abnormal amount of mana, much more than the others.
However, there was also Rael, who stood beside her.
And as if under some kind of curse, Rael barely absorbed a drop of mana.
It was like Melissa was sucking all the mana that should be entering his body back into her own.
Rael knew what this meant, and he also knew that if he did not do anything, Altros would be talentless and get that barely average class Rael had gotten in the memory record.
Since he did not want that, Rael subtly infused a bit of his Laws directly into Altros’s body, making his body assimilate everything carefully.
And so, after just five hours of this back and forth, the people had enough mana, while some had none.
Just then, Rael saw Melissa’s fingers twitch.
As though that was what sparked it all, Altros began to move, and every single human in Seoul slowly took their first breaths one by one, causing loud gasps and many other noises to resound all at once.
Altros choked on his saliva and suddenly fell down to the floor. As he grasped the hospital bed for air like an idiot, he quickly caught sight of Rael standing by the bed.
"Cough... cough! Fucking hell."
He immediately snapped out of it and stood up, straightened his back, and glanced around.
"It’s a little bit chilly, eh? Is that because you froze time?"
Rael stared at him for a moment, then nodded.
"You could say that. How are you feeling, by the way?"
Altros inspected his body before finally shrugging at Rael.
"Seems alright. I do have a very big urge to shit right about now. Do you think the toilets are still working?"
Rael sighed.
"Just shit out of the window or something."
Of course, the toilets still worked.
It is just that Rael was sure Altros was just a teeny tiny bit out of it.
And as expected, he might have been a little bit more out of it as he suddenly walked over to the balcony, took his pants off, and prepared to unload on the innocent civilians below.
Rael immediately stopped him by covering his body with mana and floating him over to the bathroom before ultimately locking him inside.
"Hey. You could have just told me it was fine from the start, you know?" Altros’s muffled voice came from inside.
"Shut up and shit. I’m going to talk to Melissa now."
Altros paused for a moment, not sure if he heard it correctly.
He quickly rose to his feet and tried to open the door, only to realize that Rael had locked it with his mana, not allowing him to pass through.
"As I said. Take your shit and gather your thoughts. I’ll let you out in ten minutes."
With that, Rael soundproofed the toilet and turned over to Melissa who, instead of fully waking up, was just taking heavy breaths.
For a moment, he thought something was wrong with her, but clearly, judging by how normal everything was, he knew it was probably just one of those situations where someone finally wakes out of a long coma.
So Rael allowed her to take her time and, on the other hand, turned to Vatyra, who was munching on a turkey leg she pulled out from seemingly nowhere.
"...Don’t you think there’s a time and place for that?"
"There’s always a time to eat. As for the place? Who cares. I stocked up just in case I ever want a turkey leg," Vatyra replied with a smirk.
Then, she pointed the turkey leg at Melissa.
"This one’s faking it, by the way. She’s already woken up way before the others. I’m guessing she doesn’t really want to show her face out of embarrassment or something."
Rael let out a sigh.
"I see..."
"N-No. That’s not it."
A soft voice rang out from the bed.
Once Rael turned toward it, he spotted Melissa with her eyes wide open.
Her eyes were a little cloudy, but even so, he knew this was the same Melissa he had talked to just before he erased her memories of their encounter.
He was sure she could not recognize him as Rael Altros, since they looked nothing alike.
After all, when Rael transmigrated into whatever that world was, he got a new body of sorts.
And growing that body year after year... it was definitely not even close.
"Welcome back," Rael said with a warm smile. "Do you want some food? Maybe a stew or something?"
Melissa paused, then shook her head.
"No... it’s fine. Can you call Rael back in?"
"Hmm... let’s let him finish first, yeah?" Rael suggested and let out a chuckle.
He held back from trying to pat her head, and instead, he sat down beside her.
After all, although he was not technically her brother, Rael felt like he had a duty to make things right.
And for starters, he wanted to equip Melissa with some metagame knowledge.
Except the game was the real world.
And her powers, well... he could feel she was plenty powerful already.
