Chapter 774: Reunion
Chapter 774: Reunion
An hour flew by in the blink of an eye as Rael spent the majority of his time just explaining how things worked to Melissa.
He went over the basics of combat, mana usage, and even how to manifest her abilities and skills at the highest level.
He felt like a teacher to a kindergartener, because from her expression alone, he could tell she just thought he was a crazy person or something.
And so, when he finally finished speaking his mind and informing her, instead of showing gratitude, Melissa just clapped her hands with a cheerful look.
"That’s a nice story. Thank you."
"..."
"Why don’t you say the word: status?"
She paused for a moment.
From her gaze alone, he could tell she didn’t believe him.
But even so, as if she wanted to humor Rael, she went ahead and said the words out loud.
"Status."
In the next instant, Rael saw her eyes light up as the status screen appeared in front of her.
He sadly couldn’t see it, but from the reflection in her eyes and how she was scanning every teeny tiny detail, Rael was sure she got something really good.
Now that he did his job of explaining the basics to her, Rael turned toward the bathroom and snapped his fingers.
In the next instant, Altros ran through the door like a brute, toppling it, and after losing his footing, embedding his head into the opposite wall.
As the bricks and rubble began to fall on him from the damaged frame, Rael let out a sigh and teleported him in front of Melissa’s bed.
Neither of the two were expecting something like this to happen.
And so, instead of some snarky remarks, the two just stared at each other without saying a word.
It was a little awkward at first, and Rael felt it in himself to just back away and let them do their own thing.
But just then, tears began to stream down Melissa’s cheeks as she finally broke eye contact.
"Hic..."
Hearing his sister’s sobs, Altros teared up as well, but because of everything that happened, he couldn’t find it in himself to approach her and hug her.
After all, he was a shit bag for the last couple of years.
Him being nice for a few weeks didn’t change anything.
A slightly better impression of a bad person...
He knew how that looked.
So instead, he just clenched his fists and watched as his sister sobbed by herself.
Though to Rael, who saw all of this from the side, he felt a bit bitter.
He knew what Altros was feeling, but still...
Right as Rael was about to give Altros a quick nudge, Vatyra stepped in, pushing Altros forward and causing him to topple onto the side of the hospital bed and land right beside the sobbing Melissa.
He looked like a deer caught in headlights.
But even so...
"Brother..."
She sniffled and then leaned in, hugging him tightly.
And that was enough to finally break Altros as he finally hugged Melissa and began sobbing alongside her.
Seeing that, Vatyra gave Rael a quick thumbs up before gesturing at the hallway.
Rael knew what she meant by that, and so, he followed her out to the hallway and then leaned against the wall.
"Shit..."
"Feeling emotional, are you?" Vatyra asked with a chuckle.
Rael rolled his eyes.
"What do you think?"
"Well, I think you reap what you sow, in a way," Vatyra replied, putting the turkey leg in her mouth.
After devouring it, she continued:
"Karma piles up even if you have a karma resistance, you know? I’m not sure what happened in your past, so I can’t say much. But... Regret doesn’t really suit you."
"I know."
Rael avoided her gaze.
"I guess I’m just a fool who keeps reminiscing about the past he’s never had, eh?"
"Wow... That was so corny," Vatyra pointed out, her expression one of cringe. "Don’t ever do that again."
Rael’s brow twitched.
Before he could say anything though, Vatyra added:
"Whenever you think of the past, consider this: If you had the power to turn back time and put yourself in that position in the past, would you?"
She took out another turkey leg and pointed it at him.
"Because from what I can tell, if you were to do that, you would lose Zafira, Lilith, and all the other people you’ve grown close to. In exchange though, you could live happily with your parents who looked down on you, and your sister who... Well, she’s a saint, I can’t say much about her."
"..."
True.
In a way, Rael always knew deep down that he would never sacrifice what he had to go back and change what he could’ve had.
After all, the world didn’t work that way.
And so, he only used his longing for the past as something that he could latch his humanity onto.
Maybe?
One by one, people began to run through the hallways. Whether it was a doctor, a nurse, or even a patient, all of them were equally as panicked.
Though there were also some who showcased skills without any restraint, zipping past the hallway at a ridiculous speed and knocking some people over.
As rude as they were, Rael knew that they were going to be in for a rude awakening once the rest of the world figures out South Korea has been unfrozen.
Heh.
He really just hoped Altros and Melissa could make a name for themselves in this world.
Also...
He really hoped they could go back into Sketa Online.
It’s just that... Would it be possible to extract Solenne’s influence from all of the devices that were used to enter Sketa Online?
He knew it was theoretically possible, but he didn’t even know where to start.
Brainstorming wouldn’t take that long, but...
What if he just took a shortcut?
<Ding!>
<You have created (x5) Thinker Construct (Common)>
In the next instant, five constructs appeared in front of Rael, wearing cheap-looking glasses as well as confident expressions.
Once they spotted Rael, they exchanged a glance and nodded at him.
"Do y’all know what you have to do?"
"Yes. We must reinvent the Sketa Online devices."
Heh.
"Perfect. You get to that now."
Just for insurance’s sake though...
<You have created (x45) Thinker Construct (Common)>
Rael decided to make it an even number of 50 constructs.
And with that, the constructs dashed away, fading from sight and heading to each large institution in this world.
On the other hand, Rael smiled and turned back to the hospital room.
It was about time he headed back inside.
