Chapter 879: The Very Easy Escape
Chapter 879: The Very Easy Escape
"Hmm, brilliant. Perhaps I should jump on a dagger right away. What do you think?" Renoir asked.
Rael shrugged. "Be my guest. I’m not really going to join you, but cheers to your death. Or something..."
Yeah, both of them were pretty much in their depressed states. It didn’t help the fact that the guards were closing in as well. Before long, they were completely surrounded, and the thought of breaking through them and trying to just prestige was also not a very good idea.
After all, Rael was sure he could most likely do it by himself, since he could teleport now and use mana. But then again, Rael knew just how powerful these guards really were.
Fast too.
It would be a very big gamble, and the result of his gamble would be Renoir’s death. Rael didn’t want Renoir to die, or even worse, be enslaved by some shit person a little higher on this floor.
In short, the two of them needed to cooperate for the time being.
<Rael Sutekh: Got captured. Brb.>
<Nyx: Brb my ass. Should we come up and wipe them all?>
Rael sighed.
<Rael Sutekh: No, just be patient for a bit. I met up with Renoir. He’s the reason I got captured. I’ll try to break out soon, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll ask for your guys’ help. Okay?>
Although every single one of them was hesitant, Nyx, Lilith, and Zafira eventually put a heart on his message. However, Gaia was nowhere to be seen.
Rael was a little puzzled as to why that was the case when, all of a sudden, a voice rang out inside his mind, startling him.
[I’m here. I wasn’t going to leave you alone, knowing full well just how big of a trouble magnet you really are.]
Gaia...
Why’d you come? It’s dangerous, Rael said.
[It’s not dangerous in the slightest. I can just teleport us out at any moment. The only issue is that Renoir is someone I haven’t got much of a connection with, so I can’t teleport him. Not only that, I don’t really feel like establishing a connection with him because of how old he is,] Gaia replied.
Huh.
So Gaia hated old people?
[What? Don’t put words into my mouth. It’s just that I don’t want to go into the mind of someone nearly as old as me. It’s a very bad idea, both soul-wise and everything else-wise,] Gaia said sternly.
Right, well, Rael felt like there was some degree of bullshit there. But anyhow, he didn’t really care that much about why she couldn’t enter his mind, as he was more interested in the current dilemma.
Just how exactly were they supposed to leave this place?
[Might I offer a suggestion?] Gaia chimed in.
Rael nodded, and so she said:
[Why not start a fight between each other? Try to hit him toward the fountain where he can prestige. As for you, I’ll save you by just teleporting us out of here.]
That didn’t seem like that bad of an idea.
So with that in mind, Rael glanced at Renoir and slightly smiled.
"Sorry about this."
In the next instant, Rael delivered a fierce punch across Renoir’s face, sending him flying off toward the guards. As expected, the guards didn’t care enough to catch him. Instead, they just stepped aside and let him fly past them.
As it so happens, one hit from Rael managed to bring Renoir right to the fountain, and now the only thing left was for Renoir to prestige.
But for some reason, Renoir just stood up and glared at Rael, almost like he had completely misunderstood the whole situation. If he just turned around, he could leave... so why was he being a vengeful idiot now?
"You think you have any right to punch me after all the shit I did for you?" Renoir said.
Though thankfully, it seemed like he actually understood Rael’s intentions as he slowly backed off and then placed his foot into the fountain.
"You know, when we meet again, I’m going to beat your ass relentlessly. Oh, and also, I hope you didn’t say anything funny to my wife. Otherwise, I will be very, very mad at you."
How petty and childish.
But despite that, he just chuckled, and in the next instant, he vanished.
The guards immediately realized what was happening, and so they dashed toward Rael, prepared to slice him in two.
However, Rael reacted immediately as well as he slipped past the guards and approached the fountain. Obviously, Gaia had suggested just teleporting him out of this floor, but he didn’t want to leave without prestiging.
And so, when Rael finally slipped past all the guards and entered the fountain, the first thing he did was prestige.
Yet unlike the several other times, he didn’t get a pop-up. If anything, he didn’t even get an experience boost or anything else of the sort. It was strange, but what wasn’t strange was the fact that he soon reappeared on the first floor.
"Did I actually do it?" Rael wondered. "Where are all the pop-ups?"
[I think there aren’t any...?] Gaia mused. [I believe the 495th floor is the last floor where you can prestige. This floor didn’t even have a statue, so you weren’t able to completely prestige, only go back to the start.]
Hmm...
What if the reason I couldn’t prestige was because there was another place to prestige on that floor? Rael thought. Like, think about it. If they reached the very top and they believe they have everything, wouldn’t they hide something like that tightly?
She reappeared beside him, then shrugged.
"Whatever the case may be, you have all the answers in your head, it’s just that..."
"Yeah. I know. I’m broke as shit. I need to do a little something."
That something was none other than this.
