Chapter 940 940: Potential Missus?

Chapter 940 940: Potential Missus?

By getting them sorted, Rael obviously meant just putting them to bed and waiting for them to regenerate completely. They would probably be in a coma for a bit, but that was fine.

Both Rael and Gaia strode into the kitchen. There wasn't anyone there, not even Linlin. It was a bit sad, because Rael had felt her presence earlier, and he thought he could have a chat with her before leaving.

But now, she was up in that mega city above, likely working or having fun.

So he left it at that. Instead, Rael kicked his feet up on one of the chairs and turned over to Gaia, who, for some reason, opened the fridge and began taking out some stuff, almost like she planned to cook for him.

Rael was about to ask her about it, but before he could, she raised one finger, silencing him. He let out a chuckle at those theatrics and admired her curves as she began making some kind of salad.

As for the little talk Rael wanted to have earlier... It was a little personal. He did want to make a move on Gaia, and he also wanted her to be with him. So, more so than a little chat, Rael wanted to propose to her.

He didn't have a ring prepared, because Rael believed that with Gaia, she wouldn't even want a ring. In fact, the only thing she might want is simply closure. Closure on whether she really liked him or not.

After all, in all the time the two of them spent together, Rael had something in the back of his mind. Was she just playing along with him because she was bored? What were the odds she wasn't interested at all, and she just didn't have the heart to say no to him?

Those thoughts plagued him for quite some time, and once she finished cooking and set the plates down, Rael decided to ask her about it.

"Do you like me?"

Gaia raised a brow and put a little tomato into her mouth. "I don't know?"

Rael sighed. "Do you feel like you could like me?"

"I believe so. I had once felt my heart flutter for you. If I can simulate that feeling again, I might fall in love with you," Gaia replied in the most basic tone ever.

It was almost like she didn't consider this serious. Obviously, Rael didn't blame her for that. He knew better than anyone that she had a reason to be this cold, and that was simply because of how long she had existed.

To expect basic human emotions and a basic human way of thinking was just stupid. She wasn't human. She wasn't even close to a human. She was more like the Concept of Life.

So because of that, Rael was more patient than ever.

"What made your heart flutter, if you don't mind me asking?" Rael asked with a slight smile.

She thought about it for a moment, then nodded at him. "Back when you showed determination to retrieve my body. My heart fluttered throughout that whole exchange, and I was very impatient to be freed."

Rael hummed. "So you like it when I save you?"

"Hmm... I suppose so? I find it oddly charming." Gaia chuckled, then took another tomato and put it into her mouth. "Granted, charming isn't enough for me to fall in love with you. I'm not like those other women who fell for you for no reason. I'm someone far more delicate and closed off."

"No reason...?" Rael's mind blanked at her words. "What do you mean they fell for me for no reason?"

She rolled her eyes. "Let's be honest here. Did you ever try to charm them? Zafira fell for you because you acted reliable and she had no one else there. As for Lilith, why did she fall for you again?"

Gaia fell into thought for a moment, then sighed. "Right. You were stronger than her, you showed her how much potential you had as a demon, and to top it all off, you restored her bloodline."

"Be that as it may, it doesn't exactly sound like they fell for me for no reason, no?" Rael took a bite of his food too, eating it slightly faster without realizing. "Those were good reasons."

"I suppose so. For me, they are very plain," Gaia said. "If you wanted to capture my heart, giving me a sense of reassurance or something like strength is simply... well, not enough. I'm sorry if I'm being difficult, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around romance. I didn't have any of it in my youth... or I suppose during any time of my life."

A virgin at that age?

Touche.

"I can hear your thoughts, by the way."

"..."

"Sorry." Rael lowered his head, then peeked back at her, noticing a faint smile on her face. "Then, can I keep trying? I want to see what works."

But then, the realization came.

"Did you read my thoughts earlier too?"

"Are you talking about when you were sitting around near Yggdrasil, or when you were thinking of proposing to me?" Gaia mentioned both the things he didn't want her to have heard.

A slight groan escaped his mouth. "What do you think about marriage?"

She shook her head. "I'm not marrying you until I'm in love with you."

So basically, there was a chance they'd never marry. To be fair, Rael didn't care that much about marriage, since he found it very classic. True love wasn't bound by stuff like marriage, but it was a good show of affection.

Rael realized that it might be the wrong way to go about it, so while he wasn't expecting this to be his goal...

For the foreseeable future, Rael would make Gaia fall for him.

"Pfft..." Gaia nearly choked on her food upon reading his thoughts. Rael's cheeks flushed slightly, but even then, she didn't comment on it.

So just like that, the two began eating in silence, occasionally mentioning whatever the two of them liked, and obviously giving Rael ideas on how to make her fall for him.
