Re-Awakening: I Became a Pay To Win Boss Monster

Chapter 945 945: No Catch?

Chapter 945 945: No Catch?

"An accident, huh?" Rael mumbled, then let out a chuckle of disbelief. He had never thought that his true origins were this stupid.

He was just some kind of being made from anomalies that went on to eventually self-destruct and add something to the universe. Basically, Rael was like a sacrificial pawn, but only if he ever actually succumbed to something like this.

So long as he didn't, Rael supposed that it was fine. Nonetheless, the uneasiness did weigh on his mind quite a lot, because he knew for a fact that this being wouldn't lie, at least not in a situation like this.

Why would it? By telling him this, it made Rael want to work under him even less. He really doubted there was some degree of reverse psychology, since beings this ancient most likely dealt with stuff first-hand and without a filter.

As if reading Rael's thoughts, Ren let out a chuckle.

"I'm not one to deceive others. Sometimes, maybe? Still, the offer Gaia had proposed is interesting. I'm willing to accept it if you are."

Rael stared at him for a moment before saying:

"What's the catch? I mean, if I'm only contracted with you in name, doesn't that make you wary of me?"

"In a way, yes. I'm simply wary of the being you could become in the future. Until then, however, I'm fully content in borrowing your services, as despite you thinking we might not have many uses for you, you are far more important than you give yourself credit for."

With that, Ren leaned back slightly.

"To tell the truth, there are more beings who would much rather erase their memories and then kill themselves than actually talk it through. Information gathering and interrogation suck in that regard. With your abilities though, I'm sure it'd be very viable. Also, you don't have to worry about the hours or whatever. We usually only have one or two such people per century."

Then, he raised a single finger.

"It's usually an hour's worth of work. That's fine with you, isn't it?"

No shit.

If he only needed to work for one or two hours every century, that didn't seem that bad. If anything, he could just put himself on autopilot and do the rest while basically sleeping.

After all, as someone who learned how to sleep-talk and sleep-walk, Rael was pretty proficient nowadays. Granted, since this body didn't need to sleep, he really needed to figure out some kind of other alternative.

Or rather, he should focus on figuring out how his body worked first.

Until then, however, Rael just nodded with a faint smile. "I hope there's not much of a backlog when it comes to these people."

"There's only one person. It's one of the main reasons why we decided to even recruit you in the first place, since the information he possesses is very important to us," Ren said, then stood up, causing his chair to vanish.

That also reminded Rael of something.

"Say, if they delete their memories, what makes you think I'll be able to buy them and remember them?"

Ren rolled his eyes. "You're able to recover every memory. I know because the being I had mentioned last time was the same. Someone could be lacking a brain and he'd still be able to read every memory that was tied to them. After all, while memories could be erased from the mind, they may not be erased from the soul."

"Isn't there someone who can read the memories of a soul, though?" Rael asked.

Ren shrugged. "Those people always hide things from us, and they're not to be trusted. As for you, I feel like we could build quite an interesting relationship on mutual trust. That is only if you allow something like that, though. So what do you say? Do you have any second thoughts?"

Rael shook his head. "Nope. I understand. Let's cooperate. Though, I take it the reason you took me to this place was because you didn't want the others to know? Why?"

"I don't mind your friends knowing. However, there are plenty of other beings watching, and I don't want them knowing what you are. Essentially, I want you all to myself," Ren replied, then paused. "Not in a weird way, of course."

Mhm.

Right.

Welp.

Whatever the case was, this was much better than fighting these bastards, since it was clear they would wipe the floor with Rael and the others. Maybe not Gaia. Gaia was pretty damn strong.

Still, with the discussion finalized, Ren went ahead and snapped his fingers, revealing the outside once again. Gaia, in particular, was a little startled, since she didn't expect him to suddenly vanish like that.

But seeing that Rael was fine, she let down her guard and exhaled a breath of relief. Clearly, she was worried about this idiot. As for Nyx though, Rael was even more surprised by her behavior.

She was standing behind Isobel, her hand sticking through Isobel's chest and holding her heart. The amount of mana inside Isobel's heart was insane, and if Rael didn't know any better, he'd guess Nyx had somehow managed to grab Isobel's core, of sorts.

Yet just like Gaia, when she noticed that Rael was unharmed, she let go of Isobel. Ren chuckled at the sight and said:

"We're all squared now. Isobel, go back home. As for the couple of you, I'll be borrowing Rael for a bit as there is something I want him to do for me. Do you mind?"

"Of course we mind," Gaia replied with a scoff. "Where are you taking him?"

Rael felt a breeze in the back of his head, and he felt like this was the sensation whenever Gaia tried to read his memories. Though, from the intensity, Rael guessed that not only Gaia but also Nyx were reading his memories at the moment.

And of course, after just a few seconds, both of them reached the end of the memories.
