Chapter 946 946: Factions
"That's it?" Gaia mumbled.
"Yeah... It seems like too little. Are you sure that's enough?" Nyx asked.
Hearing that, Ren just chuckled. "Yep. It's all good. Don't worry about it. And don't talk about it now due to obvious reasons. Now, you may accompany us if you'd like."
Both Gaia and Nyx nodded in unison. As for Rael, he wasn't that much phased, since he was planning to take them along anyway. Though...
"What kind of realm is the place you live in, exactly?"
However, instead of answering, Ren went with the more simple approach. He snapped his fingers and opened a portal directly to that realm. From here, Rael couldn't exactly see it, but the amount of mana radiating from the other side of the portal was indeed very intense.
And of course, when the four of them, excluding Isobel, stepped through the portal, the first thing they were met with was the absolute increase in gravity. Rael had felt some serious gravity before, but it was never to such an extent.
Rael fell to his knees, and after only a few minutes had passed, he was finally able to get back to his feet. Yet once he glanced around, Rael didn't see much. Rather, there was not much to see to begin with.
He was atop a very tall mountain that extended even into space. There were several temples, buildings, and even some humanoid people running around. It seemed like any ordinary place.
Not to mention, below the mountain, Rael could see a whole world, as well as several dozen mountains that extended equally as high. From up here, Rael could easily see the other mountaintops, and from the looks of things, and well, the obvious context, Rael assumed that each of these mountains held a Concept.
It didn't seem safe, to be honest. But then again, this realm was already weird to begin with, purely because the space here seemed twisted. Almost like someone had made a world inside the Abyss realm itself.
Was that what it was?
Hmm...
Well, despite Rael and Gaia getting adjusted to the gravity, Nyx was still struggling a little. But unlike him, she didn't fall to her knees, likely because she was already naturally stronger than him.
And as expected, less than a minute after Rael regained control, Nyx did too. Finally, the three of them were all ready to continue walking ahead. Except instead of the temple, Ren took them off to the side, where they could descend the mountain.
They descended for several minutes, until stepping into one of the caves that was slightly larger than the others. Rael wasn't expecting much at first, but when he got deep enough into the cave, he realized that it was actually some kind of prison.
But rather than some conventional prison, there were a few spikes in the walls that had miniature mana threads traveling through them. As it so happens, there was only one person chained down by those threads, and it was some kind of middle-aged, ordinary-looking man.
Though his appearance was the only ordinary thing about him, as his power was nothing short of scary. He was definitely as strong as Rael, if not a little stronger. Though he seemed frozen in time, only barely conscious.
Noticing the irregularity, Ren approached the man and leaned down before finally explaining:
"I locked his consciousness and soul in time. I can't read his mind in this state, but I also can stop him from doing anything to his memories. So would you like to do the honors, Rael?"
Rael paused for a moment. "Well, I can only buy the memories of someone who's dead. Also, I need to know their full name and stuff. So long as you have a name, I can tell you whatever you want."
Ren smirked. "That's good then. His name is Altieri Denarian. He's a cosmic fisherman who delves into cosmic black markets and sells his illegally caught creatures there. Recently, he's come across a way to fish inside the Abyss, and that is unfortunately a line I wish for him not to have crossed."
Then, he snapped his fingers. In the next instant, Altieri was unfrozen. Seeing so many beings in front of him, his mind blanked out for a moment. But when he realized what was happening, he didn't hesitate to immediately wipe his own memories, turning into a vegetable in mere seconds.
Staring at the sight, Rael was a bit puzzled. Sure, he could understand them not wanting to share some information, but why go so far as to erase their own memories?
I mean... This is a bit stupid. Why don't they just tell something so simple and get on with their lives? Rael mused with a sigh.
Just then, Gaia's voice rang out inside his mind.
[There's a faction that aims to kill every single Concept and Ambassador. In a way, it's one of the strongest factions currently in the universe, since their numbers are just so high.]
Before he could say anything, Nyx chimed in.
[They think that these Concepts or whatever were the cause of all of their misfortunes. In reality, they're just a bunch of pawns who can't really do anything without breaking a rule or two.]
[Indeed.] Gaia nodded. [They treat these people like terrorists, when in reality, this faction are the true terrorists. This fisherman here likely is a part of that faction.]
"I can't help but listen in on your conversation," Ren said out of nowhere, startling all three of them. "And yes, you're right. He's from that faction. Though the problem is that he has an entrance to the Abyss. There are not many people who have authorized entry."
"You don't wanna be invaded?" Rael mused.
Ren scoffed. "Of course not. Who would want to get invaded? Even if flies and insects gather, a big chunk of them do tend to get really, really annoying. Which is why I want you to do this little favor for me. Would you?"
